American! Are you guys American? LOL.. I dunno why I thought you were Quebec based :) ~SDC~

Frogboy, It's a very very interesting Read. I have to admit to comparing your company to a fledgeling Cavedog Entertainment. I think the similarities are very much there, with the good solid development, and the Strong figurehead/developer at the head of the company. When Chris Taylor took the money and got his new bosses, he lost all power to create HIS programs, and ended up creating little of any value. Cavedog, of course, fell apart in short order without him. Enough
Me thinks some of you are imagining more changes than there really are.
SO you are telling me that the minors and the majors in this version will pay me the same for techs as the last version? If you are, I will step back in and play again. I may be losing my mind. Since I am not playing it is harder to remember, but I know in several restarts of the game, I found the whole system of trade entirely different. I also found the expansionist abilities
I've gone through that shock a few times myself, elkabong. But I found backing down a difficulty setting for a game or two allowed me to adjust to the changes. Some changes you might find are actually good. Some you might find really suck for how you like to play. Most shouldn't really impact you much. Just my opinion of course, but it is what I've experienced with all the changes over the course of GC.
Yes, well, as I mentioned, I don't get much time to play a lot of gam
Why is it that the AIs will only give me a tiny amount of cash in exchange for tech, but when I try to buy a tech from the AI, it still demands a fortune? Shouldn't the AI not discriminate against the human player at "Intelligent"?
It is because they have fooked the entire underlying structure of the game. I have made several postings, but all the amazing players will come on here and tell you that the way you have been playing (and enjoying) galciv is, at best, the "sis
here I am playing maso gigantic rare tight and still getting 60,000 / game...
Yeah yeah yeah yeah. You are so much smarter and better than me, it's just bloody amazing. I have heard all of this in another thread. I believe that you guys should take all your brains and make the MODS yourself -- I don't believe they need to keep modifying the game to suit you, or make it more challenging for you, or make it so you don't abuse bugs I didn't know existed. Obvious
Bam: All significant updates from this point on will be in Altarian Prophecy updates. So GalCiv 1.2x is the end of the line for base GalCiv.
Oh dear god tell me you are not leaving us with this kludge, and no longer updating it. That would be the worst news imaginable. I hope you intend to continue some work on GC, as I believe from these forums that you have really angered many players with the latest "patches", and I believe that will hurt future sales of AP. Just
oops sorry people just noticed the other thread about this subject...still, i think it stinks, they are messing up my strategy's and minors being advanced and wellspread out make them more or less major, wont it?
The more threads the better.. I think this "new" game might be just fine, but it's almost not the same game it was two weeks ago. They have really screwed with far too many things (trade values, trade values & orientation, Starbases, Minors, and more) an
If you always want to win, and do so easily, in GC, then play a game with the AI set way down. If you want to play a hard game, and not know if you are going to win, then play at a challenging level/setting for you. If you want to play a challenging game of GC, but know you will win in the end, then set the game accordingly. What kind of fun do you want to have? It's up to you to find what settings fit your desired fun... but if something messes up your fun across the board, tell Star Doc
Actually, it has not been eliminated. I stil win through culture (called military victory because of the way I set the the conditions for victory). And I do this without fighting a war (and hopefully not defending one either) by Citizen Paguma I agree with Matthew Downie, I can still win by culture, even on Suicidal. Most of my games involve me beating most of the races culturally before declaring war on the final race to get the extra points for the military win.
Great,
by Veteran Theoden of Rohan - 3/4/2004 9:29:00 If you're truly serious about never playing the game again under the current build, my suggestion would be to completely uninstall GalCiv, reinstall using your CD and then Email Stardock asking for the build you last had fun with. I don't think it was ever Stardock's intention to ruin the game by making the changes to it. But by now means should you completely abandon the game in it's current form if you loved it before! I'm sure if you
I don't do anything anymore, not until I can go back in time. I will never play again this way, just too damned frustrating. I used to use +Luck and +Diplomacy mostly (for better trading values, although they really rooked me in 1.2 on that too, no one pays for nothing anymore), and +research. I dont' need to re-learn a game every month guys. No game has ever totally changed the way it worked to stop a few bug abusers. I guess I will go get out Alpha Centauri. At least I
In reply to Phoenix.. This varies, as I think any game that FORCES certain first moves is silliness in and of itself, but I usually try to do this.. - 100% military, and build colony ships, sending out 200m people every time I have 200 over 1 bill, until it's clear the settlement phase is done. - Then get to trade as fast as I can, with 100% research (using the "extra" to do planet improvement, or a constructor or two if I can). Then get two trade ships out ASAP, and hopefully get a st
Actually, I think the better solution would be to make the resource starbases free (private sector investment in a profitable enterprise) while others have a cost.
This would be a great idea I think, and somewhat of a solution to the problems I don't even have. It is clear from several posts here that the glitches are still being exploited, at different rates. Please don't spoil the whole game for those of us who are not the best players, just to stop a few cheaters.
Well, It's been a week (almost). I've tried to like the new version, but it's just sucked all the fun out of the game for me. I am not the worlds best player, I admit that, but I used to enjoy this game. They've implemented stopgaps to stop some of the better players and cheaters from abusing bugs I've never even imagined using, and they've wrecked it for me. The 200 / Stabase makes it so I have no starbases, or so that I have no money. The minors get all the techs before
#18 by Frogboy - 2/15/2004 1:15:13 PM Obviously the people who want to just crank out 80+ starbaes with just 3 cultural addons on it don't like it.But that was one reason this was done. It was way way too easy to abuse starbases. They were meant to be built up.But why build up if you can just put 10 starbases in your sector that have a +1 defesen to your ships or a +25% to your culture? It completely screws up the game mechanics. Now, peopel will play the game as it was intended - each s
Technology-Driven Events There are lots of planet events that allow for a philoshophical shift towards good or evil. There are some interesting random events that don't change your alignment. How about some technology-driven events, where you can change your alignment? Simple example ---------------- The Genesis corporation has offered to build a genetic cloning facility on your planet Nexus III. The benefits to this would be an additional 24 BC every month.
