what would you like to see in a Sins expansion??

what would you like to see in a Sins expansion??

I know the game just came out less than a month ago, and for many of us who have waited for this game from way back when...all have know that there will be strong distinctive possibility that an expansion will be come out in a year or so for this great game.

Sooo...what would you all like to see for a future expansion.

Examples would be:

more different units,
different superweapons
more races
campaign mode
more special abilities
different types of planetary infrastructures
special abilitites that grants different tactictal advantages
improvement to the empire tree
3d movements in combat

etc.

List away and the devs will forsure listen. :D

Some designability in the ships, not to GalCiv 2's level, but a little mroe control over weapons and their placement. Enough so you could make new classes. EG make a battleship with bigger sidearcs, or foreward firepower.

I'd like to see Capital ships need to be researched. Maybe one free design at first.(Generally colony IMO)

More ships.

More world types, more conditions (see Uzii's excellent Sin's Plus mod, there's a reason there're 930 posts in that thread...it kicks ass)

Events. These don't have to be campaign only. Things like stars having solar flairs, pirate invasions from beyond explored space (ie new pirate worlds forming), Meteor Strikes on populated worlds.

New Major technologies, eg a gate blocker that prevents a particular lane from being used in or out, but at a high and constant cost in resources.

Best for last.
NEW Civilizations. I wanna see a bioweapon race (AKA Aliens/Tyrranids/Zerg), a Robot race, and whatever's chasing the Vasari. More are of course welcome.

I strongly think there needs to be a campaign mode. I mean, I know there is a story to tell, but the game just kinda leaves you with a blank.

Also, I think there need to be more units and more weapon types. There also should be different superweapons (the Advent seriously need some sort of giant beam weapon).

There should also be more surface options, sort of like in Galactic Civilizations II but not quite that complex and that build as fast as the infustructure now.

I think the game would strongly benefit from having more anomalies and planet types. For example, instead of having like a small galaxy sort of thing around a single star, have multiple planetary systems *so it's more realistic* and have things like binary stars, supergiants, black holes, water planets, habitable gas giants. Those sort of things.

HOW ABOUT NO GLITCHES a multi player connection system, stability issues adressed (no dumping) and if you are adding another race why not the ones the vasari where running from?

Single Player Campaign!
Shield ships. Non-attacking ships used to set up a small shield front to protect vulnerable fleets (would make ships have to manoeuvre around them)
insurgent ships to change the allegiance of fully levelled planets, think engineers on Command and Conquer.
I also pass on the 3D movement

I thought of a special ability called strike team. A ship can be loaded with soldiers and pods. the "commandos" would go into pods and those pods would "phase through" enemy shields. once inside the enemy ship the strike team would try to take over the ship or sabatoge main structures like life support. Also a ship can be specifically designed to do this and multiple pods can be launched from different ships. So there would be chance wieghed in by the size/crew of enemy ship, amount of pods launched into the enemy ship, etc that the ship can be taken over or destroyed/seriously damaged. there could be 2 teams to launch, a commando team that would try to take the ship over, or the suicide/bomb team that would try to cripple/destroy ship...Just a thought to see if any one would like it, I thought it was pretty cool ;)

Super cap ship. Super expensive and use alot of fleet points and you can only have one at a time but maby have it similar to the current cap ships but bigger and better. Like a super carrier with lots of fighters squads or somthing.

These have probably been said before, so I second them:
- Much larger and stronger capital ships which are distinct and unique. Each one should have a super power which makes them very effective in a particular situation.
- Optional micromanagement in battles, allowing the player to actually employ some battle tactics
- A speed adjustment button like the one in Medieval II: Total War, allowing you to speed the game up when you're waiting for resources or ships to travel long distances, and slow down to real time again for battles.
- Campaign mode, with many new game modes such as capturing particular objects, holding planets for a set time, escorting etc...
- Planet Assault options. Even the animation in GalCiv II which shows a cartoon of your army slowly walking towards and shooting the enemy army would be great.
- It would also be nice to be able to control and develop your planets a bit better, particular the Terran ones.
- The research tree is minimalistic compared to GalCiv II and should be expanded on greatly. An idea could be that instead of researching prototypes, you could research specific technologies and when you made the right combo, you could be rewarded with a new ship. This would allow for a greater diversity in battles.

x However, I think adding new races would be a bad idea. It would take lots of work and there are already heaps of improvements that can be made to the existing three.

Oh yeah, to add to that, the game needs to be polished a bit. It has the makings of a great game, but it has some rough edges that need to be smoothed out. Minor tweaks to most aspects of the game would improve it a great deal.

Like what, exactly? I think the game has a very high amount of polish now.

my biggest issue with the game is the shipcaps... maybe one more availiable shipcap extension which sets income penalty to 80% and lets u build INFINITE ships.. so the only limit would be your compters speed, also there needs to be more capital ships, coz when you get a huge economical advantage over your enemy, you should be able to use it by just squashing him with huge numbers rather than having to take his planets one by one while he attacks ur infastructure, contantly forcing you to fallback to defend, which just delays ur inevitable victory and allows other players to attack you. uncapped ship quotas would prevent this, as you could have a useful size fleet attacking while having another protecting your bases(100-150 ships(more ships are too slow at phase jumping coz they have to get back into formation))

this would also help break stalemates, as when 2 players have maxed out their fleet cap , and have huge static defences on all their worlds , economic advantages are useless as the extra resources CANT be spent on ships.

and the income penalty needs to be reliant on how much of the shipcap is actually USED, kinda like warcraft but u still have to research the shipcap upgrades(some other guy thought of it but it needs to be mentioned again)

also anoher race would be good, like a kinda pirate race whos capital ships have abilitys which steal enemy ships during battles (like one every 240 seconds)

and this has been said 100's of times, but it needs to be said again. SINS NEEDS A CAMPAIGN, the game seems incomeplete without it, and a campaign would give new players practice to pick up on the main strategys, so that when they go online for the first time the dont get absolutely OWNED

personally i think that my own fave ideas are the obvious, more of everything, ships, planet types etc etc

but my main ones are these:

Campaign+new race (the new race could be the ones chasing Vasari which leads in with possible campaign ideas but who it is, is not important and tbh a new race is not essential to me)

only slightly better graphics on maybe a few ships and things, i think all weapons should look good, especially the big ones when fireing, for example ime not sure if anyone else gets this but my Advent Radiance is my fave ship, when it starts to charge its super beam and i wait suddenly it fires in a beautiful blue beam, could be a little better but its nice, but then i zoom in and find out many ships may be taking damage yet theres no effects on them, its like their just taking damage strangely, which is cool, i want to blow many ships up but with graphical effects on it, like an aura coming from the beam or many mini bolts of energy sparking hitting all ships affected, then when i look at the radiance the beam is sort of floating off the bottom of the ship too much, not coming from an overall weapon

maybe an extra 2/3 new cap ships per side

Another important thing is that i woud like super capitals like many many people have said, although it may not be possible, beautiful ships like from star wars equel to Super star destroyers, in EvE the massive battlecruiser sort of things, its those ships that are great, the capital ships are awsome but we need a really big monster that you hyperspace into a grav field or it comes into your and you sit for a second drooling at the majesty then realise its enemy as your eye twitches with fear and you say "holy f***" lol, it would be an awsome ship class, i think they should be super but only one per player and perhaps 2/3 choices of super cap per side to follow strategies such as a super carrier for fighter players or a massive bruiser of a battlecruiser for ship to ship battles.

ideas could be:

massive Advent ship with onboard beam much like cleansing brilliant only far larger that rotates from an enormous front mounted axial canon, equiped with incredible damage, and soak, highest mitigen ship, highest shielding of any ship and with weapons to completly eliminate large groups of ships (by large maybe 6 capitals, handfuls of most of hte other ships) basically a fleet unto itself

you could also have Advent Psi ship, with like some awsome sci abilities, planet capturing in one shot, freezing all ship weapons and drives for like a minute, mind control capital ships etc etc

for the TEC have heavy armor, long range, more weapons than most other races, perhaps not equel to the power of the advent super ship above but with longer range, faster cooldowns, speed as well as more weapon coverage overall, (aft weapons, starboard etc etc)

Long range planet "destroyers" capable of completly elimnating a TEC thread from long range if its planet, maybe even have a massive AOE nuke missle barrage

another important aspect of an exp would be perhaps new super weapons, like the weapons above and like many people ahve said i think there should be planet destruction available if its too far gone, or if your really not interested in having the planet.

Ofc to balance (and for more fun imo since it gives primary objectvies in minds of players) there could be notificantions of finished uber weapons and super capitals, perhaps massive additions in metal and crystal+credits for defeating them as well as long build times for them, making them look amazing in contruction as the shipyard is prob huge or the hundreds of tiny nano bots swarming the huge form of the slowly building leviathan

Hi, I have had some time now to play quite a few games and I have some thoughts. Should note that I am not interested in multiplayer.

Diplomacy is far too simple, it should be way way more in depth.

Pirates and Black Market need to be overhauled. I have some ideas on this... I would suggest a complete revamp of the function of pirates. They should not be concerned with attacking infrastructure or going head to head with fleets. I think pirates should be primarly focused on going after resources. So they would hunt your cargo ships and raid systems for crystal and metal. Tie that in with a revamped black market system where there is not an unlimited supply of crystal and metal. The amount of crystal and metal on the black market should be based on how much the pirates have stolen from ships and raids and on how much civs have sold, then you can have a true supply and demand market.

and IMO this should be one of those free content deals that you like to claim people get, patches are not bonus content. To early for an expansion pack, you still got a huge untapped market for this game. Make the game better first, get a larger fan base, then make an expansion pack.

For the purpose of reducing micro management, I'd like to be able to issue standing orders to a group of ships that would control their overall behavior. When I play as TEC and get robotics cruisers with demolition bots, the robotics cruisers tend to use the demolition bots on ships that don't matter, such as light carriers or light frigates. I'd like to be able to order my robotics cruisers to use their demolition bots on LRMs and heavy cruisers without having to individually order every robotics cruiser to use demo bots ability on every individual enemy heavy cruiser.

I'd also like to be able order my ships to avoid certain enemies. For example, I might want my interceptors to attack enemy interceptors, but not to follow enemy interceptors into close proximity of flak frigates.

Point defense.

Why is it every futuristic civilization has forgotten the core basics of naval warfare - hurt the enemy and keep the enemy from hurting you. As LRM spam is the tactic of choice it seems, it makes sense that at least the TEC would start turning its considerable autocannon count on some of those missiles.

But, this would lead to a boon in the production of energy weapons, right?

Not really. Lasers, plasma, and other forms of energy have a naturally limited range. So by loading out on energy weapons, you find yourself getting closer to the enemy than you'd like, making it easier for his weapons to hit you (not to mention turning those PD guns on you, which can hurt given enough velocity).

But maybe I'm getting to into the physics of it. Regardless, definately the Vasari's nemesis. A story mode definately. I'm dying to find out why the Vasari, when they came across a reasonable advanced empire, didn't try to enlist their aid instead of attacking them with their already-tired fleet of refugees.

1. More incentives for culture research spread. Atm, culture spread is most effective during the latter half of the game when you have the necessary funds to put that into practical affect. It would be interesting to see it integrated earlier in the game, hence, the possibility of gaining ships [otherwise hostile] that are occupying the gravity well of uncolonized planets.

2. Moons. More variation in the types of space environments would help bolster the depth of exploration as part of the 4x gameplay. Establishing moonbases might give the player an added defense capability, i.e., a building a reactor shield and/or fighter hanger directly on the surface of the moon at a reduced cost.

Make a more mod friendly engine. Nuff said. The mod community will do everything else XD.

I would have to say I like the game. The pacing is just right to allow me time to pay attention to my base growth without losing attention to my combat groups and having them annihilated. The things I would like to see though it might be more of a stand alone sequel then an expansion:

1. I would like to see battles over solar systems rather then individual planets. I think that being able to set your own trade lanes in system would be an awesome thing in the expansion as you could control several planets in one system. Giving you less individual planets to look after and instead manage several planets at once for a given system. Your enemies could do lightning raids that destroys a few planets and hurt that systems economy without having to siege the planet and fight everything thats waiting for them. Also makes ships with fast drives Ideal for system disruption or harassment.

2. Expanded tech trees that give a better feeling of difference between the Different races. Sublight drives to speed movement in system. Better phase lane control so you can set your own paths between systems. Kinda supports how I feel about solar systems instead of single planets as your empire.

3. I agree with everyone else here a single player would be awesome. You guys sound like you have an interesting storyline cooking. Makes the mighty Visari look like wimps compared to this secret menace in the distance.

4. I would like to see an expanded and revised system for culture. It would be neat to have more things effect how people view your culture then just researching a few techs and plopping down a few media towers here and there. AI missions are an interesting way to handle AI relationships. Making it possible to win through peace. would be kinda cool.

5. Sub systems and boarding actions. Sub systems in some of the other games made bombers feel like they did more damage to a ship then just flat damage rates. Keep those ships from running away by taking out their engines. Stop larger capitol ships from destroying your frigates with their fire superiority by taking out targeting or weapon control systems. Cripple a carrier by taking down fighter bays before they can launch. Boarding actions could make scuttling a ship rather then falling into enemy hands viable when a ships been disabled in enemy territory. Taking enemy ships can lead to new techs or having a capitol ship used against them in a later engagement.

I would like to say however that they did a bang up job with this game and I look forward to see where they take the game whatever they do with it.

What would I like to see in a expansion?

Well that depends on whether or not there will be more then one new faction. As with some of the other suggestions already made, if there are going to be more then one I'd like to see one of the new factions designed in a more in the vein of hard science fiction(from a modeling and artwork point of view). Something that our civilization might engineer in real life decades from now. A good example of what I'm referring would be artwork by artist such as Adam Burch and Daniel McIlvaney, both of which can be found on www.projectrho.com. Why you might ask? Well as I see it, with a lot of different factions you can cater to a lot of different tastes. However, maheshjr2004 suggestion could also do the job.

Just my two cents.
I see a lot of "we would like more technolgy(upgrade on the research tree) for each faction", does any one have a ideals on what the technolgy should be.

Here are some ideals, I came up with.

1. Is a technolgy, that increase the exp you get, ever time you destroy an Pirate ship

2. Is a technolgy, for the TEC that adds a captial ship to the Pirate fleet, for ever time, that they attack a faction, that is not that TEC player. THe reason for this, is that credits that TEC player put into Pirates, loses it value as the other factions, get stronger.

3. One for the Vasari would be an for ever time one of your capital ships, is destroyed. All of your ships abilities, double in power! This double in power last for a amount of time* the level of your capital ship, when it was destoryed. Thismake it so that your higher level, and

there for higher value capital ship have a bigger effect, then a new level 1 capital ship, of the same type.

So here is an example.

Lets say that you have a fleet with a capital ship, and an Serevun Overseer. Now let say that the capital ship is destroyed. Now ever time you use Reactive Nanite Armor, instead of an increase in hit point of 250 and an increase in armor of 2, you get an increase in hit points of 500 and armor by 4, forn a set amount of time. This abilitie does not stack, so if you destory 2 capital ships, at the same time, you dont' get an increase of 1000 and armor by 8. The time that it last for, is based on the levle of the capital ship. So lets say theat the time limit is 10 sec. This means that for a level 1 it would last for 10 sec, buit for a level 10 capital ship, it would last for 100 seconds.

4.one for the Advent would be to add a homeworld upgrade. Which make it so that you can't move your homeworld. But the out put of all your Brosdcast Center double, as well as double any effect of that Advent faction culture.

What do you guys think?
Maby the ability to upgrade your logistic sites im sooo tired of fully reshearching and then having to wait for my recourses to accumilate so that i can buy more things.

I want the abilty to upgrade your capital ships once you have reshearched it in the tech tree and maby a huge over the top Flagship that takes a tremendouse amout of resources and time to build but is worth it so that you can have a vastly superior ship to use

i think the game simply needs more ships more upgradeable things and bigger better weapns
Reply #97 Top
More Factions, Ships, campaign, and a couple new factions imo

Oh and a Deathstar :)
one ideal to get you fully upgraded logistics sites, is to have ground battles, in which if you win, you get teh planet, and what ever upgrades, that it already has. But the guornd assults, are made to be more risky. While a mass drive attack, comes with no risk, but destorys, all the upgrades, like it does now.

Also we could have an end of the line tech upgrade, that adds more damage and hitpoints to the capital ship, as a level 1 battleship, is weaker then 5 or 4 HC.

Hostile alien planets. Imagine running into a planet populated with extremely large, hostile insects ("it's an ugly planet, a bug planet.")

It seems it that happened you would be in Buggy Situation

Also, More politics. All you have is six options on what to do with the player. And more research. I recently played Galactic Civizallions 2 and i was inpressed by the diplomacy and options you can do with the other player. And a Campgain.
