what would you like to see in a Sins expansion??

I know the game just came out less than a month ago, and for many of us who have waited for this game from way back when...all have know that there will be strong distinctive possibility that an expansion will be come out in a year or so for this great game.

Sooo...what would you all like to see for a future expansion.

Examples would be:

more different units,
different superweapons
more races
campaign mode
more special abilities
different types of planetary infrastructures
special abilitites that grants different tactictal advantages
improvement to the empire tree
3d movements in combat

etc.

List away and the devs will forsure listen. :D

Well, I've only played it for a little bit. But the main thing that I'd love to see, is a story mode. The trailer and opening video just sets it up for a story mode, but then there isn't one.

I'd also like for more micro-management in battles. I just feel so useless when my fleet engages another enemy fleet lol. Or at the very least, better targeting options. For example, for fighters. Give it so like you can have them target enemy fighters, enemy bombers, lightly armored ships, structures. Because I've noticed my fighters and bombers just storm the enemy fleet, when my fighters should be protecting my fleet from enemy bombers.

Aside from those two things, I can't think of anything to add.

Give some planets minable moons instead of asteroids! (Maybe some infrastructure on them as well)

I'd like to see another faction, multiple victory conditions, and refinement of the political system.

I'd like to see

--i dont want my fighters and bombers to attack other fleets when ever they see them , because by the time my fleet enters the battle all my fighters are lost
, wile selecting the units with left click and drap maybe pressing some special buttom might alse make the fighters be selected , or something better
--costom factions ... not going to be a mixture of all 3 factions but it might have aling list of options to select from , it would be intersting to see players creating the empire in there dreams , the once that fix best for there needs since some are more defencive or offencive players . There wouldnt be a best options for the most powerfull faction because everybody playes different
--more tactical options for AI selection
--pirate fleets that go around the map randomly once spawned
--when your alegiance on a planet becomes low , small rebel fleets spawn , could be a option
--more recon elements , like experimental cloaked scout ships to recon beyound the stronghold of a empire , maybe disguised as a trade ship (can have the option to disguise into some other empires trade ship [alie of my enemy]
--more upgrades for capital ships
--Kamikaze option for capital ships , OVERLOAD THE REACTORS :P
--random events for Plasma Storms , Magnetic Clouds , Gas Giants
--more types of special artifacts

there might be realy dumb ideas that i havent realy tought about ... i came up with these in 5 minutes , so there are no better than the drawings of a 5yo

sorry about my grammer , thank you for reading

Force them to dock via the button in the fighter build menu, then you can manually launch them when you like.

Model improvement (some buildings are simply too dull)
New game modes (e.g. capture object and hold for certain time)
Story mode
More ships, more structure types, extended tech tree

I would love to see better fleet combat options. For instance, auto target SR/LR/Heavy etc. Fleet formations and other battle tactics.

More customisation of the basic game elements would be a big hit I feel. AI personality customisation (perhaps too much effort I dont know?), design a ship before the game, more cruiser and frigate types, more fighter types and research tree personalisation (1).

(1) What I mean by this, is lets say you start researching the "laser" research tree. This means you have to invest a lot of resources in starting up laser research. As such, missile or plasma research becomes more impractical as it would require more starting almost all over for the switch (basically to increase the importance of research choice).

Oh yeah and tougher AI as well :CONGRAT:

Agreed

And a campaign would be nice, even if only to tell the story behind the game.

(1) Single player campaign
(2) Random events (giant space worms, plagues, stock market booms, ancient ships located, etc.)
(2) "closed" phase lanes (like the closed warp points in David Weber's novel In Death Ground)... basically phase lanes that you can only see and use from one direction until you see someone come out of the hidden end.
(3) More varied planet types.
(4) Super-capital class starships.
(5) starbases that can be placed in neutral territory (grav wells with no hostile planet or starbase).
(6) mines, minelayers and minesweepers
(7) larger explosions
(8) Multiple Victory conditions - such as controlling 2/3 of the planets, etc.
(9) Ground assault ships that let you land ground troops to takeover a colony without destroying it first.
(10) Option of having more tactical combat - fleet formations, evasive-neutral-aggressive tactical stance, etc. This could be made an option that could be toggled off for those who don't want to micromanage their combats.
(11) Ability to target individual components of capital ships.
(12) Supply lines

Models need to be sharper. The scale is ruined by the fact that you cant zoom right up to a capital and just see its huge size.
A new faction would be nice, more units. Better pirate.
If not create your own ship then at least give create your own colour.
More lazers. Even thought the frame rate goes ape shit in a big battle, when you look around, there is nothing being fired around.

Hrmph... I'm pretty sure we could just copy 'n paste most of the replies in the "Stuff to put in 1.03" thread. Somehow, it very quickly turned into "Let's list every possible addition we can think of", rather than "Here's a couple of things you can conceivably tweak in the three weeks you're working on the patch". Grrr.

Anyway, an expansion would be the logical place to ask for a campaign or extra factions. Doesn't mean it's going to happen, but it's at least a more reasonable request.

I'm listing these in an expansion thread because I think they're a bit too big for a patch. They would work in a bonus pack, but they'd also work equally as well in an expansion pack. I would like to see:

1) A new focus on strategies contrasting small ship tactics or large ship tactics. Watching a battle in Star Wars (lots of small ships and fighters) is totally different from watching a battle in Star Trek (big ships). I hate to use those two as an example because I think they're overused, but I think that will make the point. These sort of things could add more depth to the game.

1.1) Ship subsystems. I labeled this 1.1 because I think the fighters and bombers would be best suited to attack subsystems. Frigates, cruisers, capital ships, and so on already feel balanced. Subsystems could be temporary negative multipliers against damage, speed, or shields if they're taken out.

2) A super capital ship. Only one of these per player should be allowed in service at any given time. Consider this like hero/top-tier legendary units in Rise of Legends.

3) Additional spacial bodies like nebulae for some hide and seek, localized storms or anomalies that temporarily affect a planet or couple of them, planets with moons that alter the system's HP and population, and similar things.

4) Another faction or race (could be pirates). Also, sub-factions of races would be welcome. This could be done like in Rise of Nations where there are different general races (European, Middle Eastern, Asian, etc.) and their assets look the same, but there's a unique unit or two plus positives and negatives to their economy, research, and military might.

5) Greater control over winning conditions.

6) Planets in the Z-axis and more planet types.

That's all I can think of!

Right now, the main thing I'd like to see in an expansion is whatever it is that's chasing the Vasari.

Ideally, I'd like this new faction to use very different mechanics to the existing three races - to be something truly 'alien' - but I appreciate the balance nightmare this could lead to.

I'll probably think of more things after I've played the game more.

In the meantime, there are a few things that have been mentioned by others that I'd like to comment on...

3d movements in combat

This is already in the game. Check your key bindings for the 'Z axis' key (works exactly like Homeworld), you may need to choose a key to use.

I'd also like for more micro-management in battles. I just feel so useless when my fleet engages another enemy fleet lol. Or at the very least, better targeting options.

Erm, given that you can already micromanage every single ship and its abilities, I'm not sure what more could be added?

For example, for fighters. Give it so like you can have them target enemy fighters, enemy bombers, lightly armored ships, structures. Because I've noticed my fighters and bombers just storm the enemy fleet, when my fighters should be protecting my fleet from enemy bombers.

Alt-click on a fighter in the Empire tree to select all your fighters in the current system (or select them one by one), then right-click the enemy (either in the 3D view or on the Empire tree - I find the tree much easier for enemy bombers). Use shift+right-click to queue up whatever sequence of attacks you want (I tend to go for all the enemy bomber squadrons to start with).

I would like a more complete tutorial. I went through all four tutorials and I still don't feel like I know much about how to play this game. For example, I know how to build Capital Ships.

Campaign, another race, upgraded diplomacy, yadda yadda yadda.

I would like to see some changes to the planet types. All the ones that you run into are just old human colonies that are barely populated. Ideas that I have:

1. Hostile alien planets. Imagine running into a planet populated with extremely large, hostile insects ("it's an ugly planet, a bug planet.") . To colonize it, you would have to bombard it like when capturing another faction's planet. What would be the point? To take more time to capture a planet.

2. Vassal planets. You could come across a densely populated world. After vanquishing their pathetic navy, they offer to give you more credits, metal, and crystal than you could ever make by colonizing it on your own in exchange for protection. The vassal planet will provide you this wealth until an enemy ship comes into the gravity well. At that point, all payments cease until the intruder is driven off. The player would be unable to build any logistical structures around the vassal planet, but would be able to build tactical ones.

I would also like a reset to default view button (well, that could be done in an update). Yes, it does bother me that much. If there already is a way to do it, could someone tell me?

The one thing I'd like to see (what we're probably going to get anyways) is The "Shadows", the strange... thing that's been dogging the Vasari all these millenia. They'd be like the Antarans from MoO2, enemies who send small fleets of incredibly powerful ships to attack your colonies every so often, and one of the victory conditions would be to assault their Homeworld (defended by several of the most asininely powerful ships in the game). You'd of course have the option of whether to include them in your maps or not.

1. I'd like to have the ability no matter the race to have a jump gate where ever i want as long as i can place it and defend it. or as in eve some sort of capital ship that can jump with out using phase lanes or gates. the ship creates a portal allowing other ships to jump with the jump ship. Of coarse I'd like some way to reduce the gates or jump ships from getting to close to my planet. Maybe you could have a device that would, when built, only allow for ships to jump in to space outside of your planet thereby allowing you time to set up a defense. like moo you could have a gate set up in the planet being attacked and you could jump you fleet into your planets orbit, inside the safe zone, to help combat the hostil fleet that has to make it way to the inner orbit of your planet using standard drives. I REALLY HATE HAVING TO FOLLOW LANES UNLESS I NEEDED TO. I'M NOT A MOUSE IN A MAZE AND I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE RACE TO BE ABLE TO DO IT. MAYBE THEY ALL COULD BUT IN A DIFFERENT WAY. A mod to do this would also do as a fix.

2. Also I would prefer the scale of the ships and structures to be larger similar to Star Trek Armada where the ships where of a large enough scale where the detail could be made out on standard magnification. Its great that I could have houndreds of ships in a planets orbit but when i have to zoom in to look at combat I end up only seeing a very small portion of it. I think others have talked about this also but have not figured out how to do it yet in a mod.

3. Improved text, even though a fix was created by Xiskio to help with this. the text was to large (like a bold) to be able to read on my desktop or laptop. I wanted to play this game and had been waiting for it but the text was bad and I did not think I was going to be able to play it.

4. Change the color (mod was made ) for the progress bar so that it is more easily read. hard to see how far along my tech is in terms of being completed.

5. Creat it so that when you are looking at your planet system you see orbital paths of each planet so that the planet look like they are on some sort of real star map other than a bunch of marbles laid out on a black surface. It is not a very polished or techy look.

6. More stars. Like the game as actual stars with planets versus one star with forty planets. Kinda odd. I like the idea of having a number of star systems with a couple of planets in each. More realistic. I like the idea of being able to get a jump ship built or a gate ship built that could place a ship in a another star system then jump to it and grab as may planets as i can.

7. Reduce the number of stars that are used as a backdrop. It reduces the ability to see the detail of ships and structures because they are floating in a field of tiny dots of light.

Make these suggestions options that I could turn off or on. If there are those who dont like some of the things that i do then allow them to not sure them but don't take away my ability to use them at the sake of others.

I think that EVE Online is a good reference. I pay every month for a subscription but if i can get something to replace it that would be great. Sins has a lot to offer at the moment and if the changes that I (and some other people have asked for) you will have many happy customers. Mods are being created to do some of the things that I and others have suggested but it would be creat for them to be a part of the actual game.

Definitly

Yes, I konw this is a bit much but,

why not also include some way to define on the map a persons area of control. GalCiv had it. Sins has a broadcast tech which could help to increase your area of control/influence. I'd like to see something more than just a colored planet showing that I control it. the map showing control would not only show control of a plant, but would also show in the system map your area of control within the system then the larger galaxy map would show you area of control on a galactic scale. That way you get into additional areas of play where if you don't have a good standing with some people or they you they can't go through your territory with out permission or payment. Can influence trade also.

Agreed (again). Also, a little more uniqueness between race's ships. As it is its pretty much the same choices between races, just with some different abilities. Lol predictable (and things like fighter cruisers are practically just skinned different lol).

I would also like to see another faction, as long as it's not one of those organic, hive-mind races that every sci-fi genre can't seem to live without. I think I could stand a hive-mind, but please, don't make it a 'living' fleet.

I'd like to see an 'epic' option for logistics in which you could create some truly enormous fleets.

More planet types. In particular, I'd like to see a 'water' world in which most of the surface is water (90+%).

Improved defenses. Seriously, dinky little platforms? Give us fortresses (perhaps even asteroid fortresses). Minefields. I'd like a support slot added that piggy-backs onto the tactical slot. You fill your tac slots with gauss cannons (and super weapons, like the Novalith) and your support slots with repair bays, weapon jammers, and so on.

A long-range combat cruiser (heavy cruisers are light frigates on crack--where's out cruiser-sized Illuminators?)

Binary Planets
