what would you like to see in a Sins expansion??

I know the game just came out less than a month ago, and for many of us who have waited for this game from way back when...all have know that there will be strong distinctive possibility that an expansion will be come out in a year or so for this great game.

Sooo...what would you all like to see for a future expansion.

Examples would be:

more different units,
different superweapons
more races
campaign mode
more special abilities
different types of planetary infrastructures
special abilitites that grants different tactictal advantages
improvement to the empire tree
3d movements in combat

etc.

List away and the devs will forsure listen. :D

I would like to see a new race with organic ships!!!

I would really like to see 3 things:
1st: A new race with organic ships (simillar to Genesis rising).
2nd: 3d movment like in HW2 or Hegemonia where you can oder your ships to go up and down.
3th: Better explosions (cap. ships breaking up than exploding)

- Be able to apply color schemes to your fleets, much like in Dawn of War, if such a thing were possible

now your leaning towards homeworld hehe :P even though they only had 2 styles for colour differences.

heres another idea for the whole Z-axis thing. instead of having circled areas of space for the gravity wells, make them spheres for the gravity wells, and give the players the ability to make those spheres more or less transparent/opaque, etc.

- Some sort of a spy system (saboteur, stealing tech (should be expensive), stealing materials and so on)
Maybe even add a whole spy-tech-tree
- much more anomalies
- random events
- trade goods/ressources (with small bonuses for your empire) you can find and trade with (i guess the best example for this would be civ4).
Just add some random asteriods or small moons with trade goods/ressources (building mines on them), as long you control them you get the bonus for all planets within the culture range/lines. Since we can build no streets i thought using the culture lines would be the best idea.

-New Race (whatever is chasing Vasari)
-Extended tech trees
-More decisions on planetary upgrades. Maybe have a few upgrades per planet that you can only build one -or- the other, etc.
-Additional cap ship for each race
-Additional ways to customize cap ships as they level. Like planetary upgrades, have decisions where, as they go from L11->15 (did I mention more cap ship levels? :)) they can pick 1 of two or three upgrades, and the others are forever unavailable to them.

Stuff like that. I want more interesting decisions.

oh yes, that's something which has bothered me a little too. eventually, capships of the same type will all be the same at lvl 10 and colonies will also be very similar if fully upgraded. of course, neither happens in every game, since a game needs to take some time for multiple capships to reach lvl 10 and most planets fully upgraded.

still, it could interesting to have 4 levels for every ability and/ or an attribute boost (slight boost to hp, shields, dmg) as an alternative, so that two lvl 10 kols can still be different from each other. maybe something similar with planets. like one extra upgrade per planet, but you need to decide between pop, infra, logistics and tactical.

OOPS, I read the post as: SINS EXPLOSION (my bad!)

If the mesh for the hull started physically buffeting, and unzipped with all the debris inside spilling out... that's what I want to see in SINS :)

-Multicore processor support
-The ability to go negative speed for those who want to make movies and for slower computers
-Capital ships being changed to what they should have been from the start. Extremely powerful and difficult to take out but also very expensive and impact your unit cap.

Been playing Sins since it came out. There are a few things I would love to see in the expansion. I will try to keep these wishes in the land of fisability (I would love to have the ability, for example, to ram any ship with any ship; ie, suicide the firgate into a captial ship for high damage... but I know this would be a beast to impliment and would WAY overdo the micromanagement in the game. Also, as cool as they would be, boarding actions would be too much to ask for for the same reasons)

- When a captial ship dies, make it a truely cataclysmic event. Have the thing go into a 10-second death throw and culminate with either a major break up of the ship or, and make this a random chance, an explosion that deals some real damage in a small radius (enough to be fairly damaging to frigates and noticable to curisers).

- Planetary Assaults. Make this a sort of off-screen affair. Something like a defense value for the planet based on fortifications, population, climate and ground forces purchased on the planet. The attacker tries to beat this value by lowering it with bombardment (ie, the damage dealt to planet HP and population as well as damage vs ground forces) and assaulting the planet with a troop ship Cruiser that visibly is sending down pods, transports, supply shuttles, etc. The more invovled, the higher the attacker's rating is (and destorying these in space combat lowers the rating obviously). Once the attacker surpases the defender's rating, a sort of countdown begins as the defense rating beings to slowly fall. Once, say, a minute or two goes by, the planet is captured and you get all the surviving population and infrastructure. This opens up new areas of reserach as well, as you now have to reseach the new Crusier AND some races will have research that increases the effectivness of planetary defenses and assault forces. Also, have culture play a role in how quickly an assault succeds.

- Planetary Defense Weapons. Allow each race to build some kind of weapon system on the surface of the planet that can fire out into low orbit (where ships bombard them from), thus allowing the planet to defend itself. Beam weapons, rail guns, and missle batteries are all ideas.

- New special planet traits to discover with exploration. Maybe try to have every planet have at least one of these, to make exploration more worth the trouble.

- Moons. Lots of people ask for them and I have to agree. Allow moons to support one special structure than can only be built on a moon, such as a colony (increase pop and thus credit income), mining opperations (provides double the metal or cystal an ateriod does OR maybe even the same amount an asteriod does, but both resources), defensive weapons (like Planetary Defense Weapons, above), research base (Civil or Military, you choose when you build it; it also increase research time by 2%-5% to make it better than the standard orbital one). The possibilites are really endless here.

- Capital Ship Upgrades. In Sins the Capital Ships are like the heroes in Warcraft III and Heroes of Might and Magic V. They gain Xp, level up and gain skills. What are they missing? Special gear only they can benefit from. Enter upgrades. You would have to build a special kind of lab to research these items and then bring the capital ship in range to upgrade it OR you could research these items at the captial ship shipyard and bring the ship in range of the shipyard to buy it the upgrade. Make it so at every odd level the ship can support a new upgrade (1 at level one, 2 at level 3, 3 at level five, etc). Ideas for upgrades include more powerful engines (move faster), a more powerful reactor (generates anitmater faster and can store more), increased armor, a more powerful shield generator, superstructure upgrade (more HP), and weapons upgrades (ie, long barrel autoguns, larger beam capacitors, etc). These traits are usually increased by regular research, but a capital ship can go far beyond that and has the space for some additional gear. Some upgrades can give the ship a new skill to use in combat, for instance, or even grant it some utility function, such as an on-the-spot regen for 10 seconds thanks to incredible damage control.

These are just a few of the things I've come up with.

Actual variety in the units... Its so fucking boring to have 1 single ship for normal combat, and 1 single ship for long range combat, and 1 single heavy combat cruiser.
Essentially each race has 3 combat ships, the rest are just micromanagement support ships.

I would love it if this game went more along with the Supreme Commander style. Which means more unit variety even if they fill the same role..
Have light frigates, medium frigates, heavy frigates, missile frigates, missile cruisers, beam cruisers, gunships, torpedo cruisers. Etc Etc..

You know what i mean? I'm talking about the sort of variety you get in SoTS, with dozens of different weapons all with their own uses, and the ability to have those weapons on any combat ships you want. Doesnt have to be customizable, just.....
More than ONE fucking ship/weapon..

ACTUALLY, now that i think about it.. What i want is a merger between SoTS's combat/weapon/ships, and SoaSE's planetary development/research and 3d solar systems.

90% of what I want is pretty simple it could be done with an update.
@ bm15: yeah, all very nice ideas. I've argued to a similar approach to planetary assault before and the low orbit radius planetary defense weapons sound like a nice idea too. and of course moons.

I would like a political system that is not one sided. The computers can give you missions but you can not ask them to do things for you. How is that fun? perhaps you could negociate payment as well. Change up the "some of each reource" option for a lot of what you actually need.

It is very difficult to make and keep other empires on friendly terms with you. I know this game is not exactly about making friends but some trade partners would be nice from time to time.

Also, The pirates. I want to see a way to buy down the bounty on your own empire. Pay the pirates to go away. or if you are looking for a fight, pay them to come to you.

DW

after reading some of the other posts I would also like to see...
a single player campaign mode
multiple victory conditions
random events
new, more original races
revised political sysem (as stated above)
vasel planets and starbases

I think customizable ships would be a big improvement, as it would force strategic designs and it would give players the definite feeling that there ships are growing considerably stronger(which barely exists at the moment, i.e. cap ships available from the start, 10% or 5% increase in damage per tech level). This would make early ships no match for upgraded ships, thereby forcing investment in advanced technologies. But i think to create more variation in the ships the tech tree need to be varied to make advances have a bigger impact.
Such as:
More customizable weapons, do you want to focus on mass drivers, laser, phasers, torpedoes, missiles, or the killer nerf beam, lol.
At the beginning no shields - must be researched and have clear advantages at higher levels - such as completely nullifying earlier game weapons or specific type of weapon.
This could be similarly applied to armour types.
Research in new weapons tech showing much more improvement in damage output, or armour/shield piercing weapons.

I for one like the idea of watching in horror as a massive fleet phases to my main defensive choke point, and fearing certain death, realise that the fool has spammed loads of early ships in an effort to overwhelm my forces, and I cheer with delight as my fleet which is 1/3 of the size, consisting of highly advanced frigates and cruiser completely wipes the floor with his primitive vessels.
I don't know if this would completely hang the most powerful systems (im not expecting reatime galciv) but heres hoping!

P.S. Love the game already though, but I also love the idea of clear technological advantages, with tech breakthroughs changing the tide of wars.

want
1.2 new race with organic ships and crystalyne ships
2.a campaign 5 versions 1 for each race

4.new planets types
5.alien arifacts outside planets like the Halo ring ^^

want but not nessecary
6.a planet destruction weapen that changes the planet into an astroid field or something
7.a planet build builder to change astroid fields into planets
8.Costum made ships like in Swords of the stars

- Direct control of a capital ship or just any ship, with a cockpit view :p

Coulb be fun to fight on your own in a big fleet battle, but this feature isn't really that important, imo.
I would like to see in a patch or expansion that when a ship or structure blew up it transferred blast damage to any surrounding objects including enemy and friendly.

I also like the idea for mines, minesweepers, and minelayers suggested by canusamar.
Hence, a ship friendly or enemy fly over it and it blows up.

I also really want to see ship movement become a bigger part in engagements and fleet formations that can protect your powerful, but poorly protected ships.

Either in expansion or new game a custom ship designer would be good that could put custom designed ships in a regular game for a non-modder in which its price depended on the number and type of weopens, armor, and abilities etc.

I would love to see a capital ship designer. If this was the only thing added I would be happy. I was thinking that is could be something like the Spore Creature Creator. You get a boatload of options to customize and add on. As a little extra, it would be awesome if you had the ability to recreate famous ships. Imagine a Star Destroyer or the Galactica plowing through enemy fleets.

I also really like the idea of moons. bm15's suggestion for the purpose that they would serve is great!

As someone else mentioned, varied ship deaths would also be nice.

One other thing that I would really like to see, which again, someone already mentioned, is the ability to ram other ships with yours when it is about to go down. I would love to have my capital ship go down like the Battlestar Pegasus.

One more thing. Super capital ships would be totally awesome.

Closed worm holes add more strategic depth...research tree needs to be more complex to make ur direction a little more distinct and unique....The balance in fleets is still not quite right..And some kind of cloak would b devine.

One small thing I would like is to be able to give capital ships longer names. Honestly, the character limit for ships right now is tiny.

I'm not asking to be able to write a book in there, it's just that having to cut down "Well of Midnight" to "Well of Night" just to fit is kind of restricting! Likewise, I don't think "Talon of Darkness", "Destroyer of Light" or "Nightmare Child" are too much to ask.

And yes I do give my ships rather nasty (and overly pompous) names, I like my enemies to know what they're up against.  :p
Reply #147 Top
Yes, longer Capital Ship names would be nice. I love long, pompous names for Capital Ships (especially Battleships...). "Lord of the Typhoon", "Ender of Worlds" and "The Pale Rider" for instance.

Perhaps some more variety and pomposity in what the Capital Ships say when you order them to attack. Or better yet, make the captian sound very confident at mid levels and way over-confident, boardering on the feeling of invincible, once the ship reaches higher levels.

Finally, why is the Capital Ship in a selected group of ships not automatically made the flagship when you make them a fleet? A dinky Cobalt frigate is not going to be my flagship if I have a Kol in the group. Make it so the Captial ship, or the highest level one, is always the flagship of a fleet when you establish one.

I think it would be really hard to balance but custom capitals is a pretty cool idea. It would lead to a lot of rebalancing patches though.

What I really want for this game is a ratings system for online play. Have ratings like starcraft used to. Or like they have for chess players (same system I beleive).

Another thing that annoys me in online games is that the opponents can so easily just disconnect and deny you the win. If they d/c the game should do something like, if you have more used ship points than your enemy (have a bigger fleet), you have the option of taking the win. If he has more ships, it's considered a draw.

Not the guy gets his fleet slaughtered and then quits so your record shows you have another game played without a win or loss.

I would appreciate more complexity in...
1. The diplomacy: more negotiations, in addition to missions and demands from comps.
2. More options for planets, land forces and additional structures.
3. Either custom ships, or increased emphasis on technology.
