I have also seen this error in 1.02 (A game I started last night) I saw the Dregin build a Diplomatic Translators about a year after I first created Diplomatic Translators. - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~

Out of curiousity, why does "Smuggling" appear on the Tech Tree? (To the best of my knowledge it's just a MOD you can download from the library and not part of the released game) - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
On the other hand, in some situations losing an election is disastrous and therefore it's worth the price of propaganda to win the election (whatever the cost). - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
I agree, it would be very nice if the UP enforced peace treaties for some number of turns. (I mean, isn't this type of thing the reason why interstellar organizations are created in the first place?). This also provides an additional strategic tradeoff when deciding whether to be part of the UP ("Is my empire going to benefit from having my peace treaties enforced?") and creates the possibility for a UP resolution which changes the number of turns the UP enforces peacetreaties for (i.e. Have a d
I just finished a hard fought game on "normal" (I'm really not very good, but I'm getting better) and got a score of around 500-700 points. I browsed around the Metaverse and I saw some people posting scores well over a 1000 by winning "challenging" games. When I see those scores, I'm impressed. I have yet to win a challanging game and so I commend those who have succeeded against brighter AI opponents. On the other hand, I was much less impressed by people who posted scores near 2000 f
BiffMan, I think you might be missing part of Popup Target's point. The game does calculate that your planet is REALLY a 14.95 planet even though the game just displays 14. So even though your planet behaives just like a Class 14 Planet, the game remembers that it's really a class 14.95 planet and as soon as you build Soil Enrichment, , you get a class 16 planet (instead of a class 15 planet which is what you'd expect when you add Soil Enrichment to a regular class 15 planet).<
I've found that I have an extremely difficult time winning elections if I ever switch to Democracy from Republic (I seem to consistanty win elections in Republic). Does anyone have any useful advice for winning elections in more advanced governments (the penalty for losing an election is pretty severe and seems to counteract the benefit I'd get from using Democracy). - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
Has anyone else noticed that if you hit Ctrl-N many times in succession that the frequency of high Planet Classes planets appearing becomes much higher. (This could all be a coincidence, but last weekend I tried hitting Ctrl-N a whole bunch of times because I wan't to try out a certain Military start under "perfect" conditions and I was amazed at how many class 20-32 planets I found in the galaxy ... e.g. two class 32 planets in a small galaxy, even though habitable planets was set to "common").
I did post this to the bug reports thread several days ago. As hake mentioned, the reason I set spending to 100% in my test cases was to make sure I'm using all of my capacity. - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
I'm sorry. My posting doesn't seem like it's working very well. In any case. I see what you mean about Tri-Strontium Steel ... Maybe I just didn't notice the +10-15% increase in hitpoints. However, I'm pretty certain that something went wrong when I gave the Torians my gravity accelerators because the turn after I gave them the trade good their survey ship was still only moving at 2 Movement Points per Turn. Has anyone verified that giving trade goods to the AI def

It is not possible for you the player to propose resolutions in the UP. Resolutions are brought to the floor of the UP by some abstracted means (probably an incredibly convoluted committee system) and all you, the emperor of the humans, can do is vote on the resolution once it has reached the floor. Hope this helps, - Matt Lepinski :->
One of the early games I played (admittedly it was normal opponents in a small galaxy, this might not be feasible in other circumstances). I got lucky and started out two sectors away from the Yor and my Survey ship met his initial colony ship in the sector between his world and my world. My survey ship had gotten lucky and found a +1 attack bonus early on, so I blew up his colony ship to start a war. I then raced to Corvette Tech and blew up all of the Colony and Constructor ships I co

It seems that the Military Production Bonus that you can select at the start of the game does not work. I was testing to see if the Economy and Military Production Bonuses work at the begining of the game: My test Scenerios were: (A) +30 Econ, Fedralist, +1 Speed (B) +50 MilitaryProd, War, +1 Speed I restarted (Ctrl N) several times to get a variety of starting planet qualities. In each case, I set Tax Level to 40% and Spending to 100% (with Military at 100% and
I decided to try this out and see what I could learn about Econ Bonuses and Military Production Bonuses. I concluding that starting the Economy Bonus DOES in fact give you more starting tax income. However, starting Military Production Bonus DOES NOT give you more starting military production. My test Scenerios were: (A) +30 Econ, Fedralist, +1 Speed (B) +50 MilitaryProd, War, +1 Speed I restarted (Ctrl N) several times to get a variety of starting planet qualities.<
I believe that trade goods are definately broken. As a test, I gave my "Gravity Accelerators" to the Torians but the speed of their ships did not increase. - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
I would like the ability to demand a star base when negotiating for peace. If I am winning a war, I should be able offer the loser peace in exchange for a star base. - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
I demanded "Tri-Strontium Steel" from the Yor in exchange for peace (and of course a bit of cash). They accepted, but I did not seem to recieve any bonus to ship hit points as a result of the trade. To further test this, I gave away my "Gravity Accelerators" to the Torians and they definately DID NOT recieve a speed increase for their ships. It seems that trade goods only benefit the empire that builds them, even if they are traded. - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
I had a similar situation where I demanded "Tri-Stronium Steel" from the Yor Collective in exchange for peace. They agreed but it didn't seem to give me any increase in ship hit points. - Matt L. :-> ~SDC~
Does 1.01a include all the stuff in the bonus pack? (That is, if I reinstall galciv using Stardock Central, do I want to reinstall the bonus pack, or is the bonus pack unnecissary once I have 1.01a?) Thanks, - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
Okay, Got it! Thanks. (Does anyone know what effect these updates have on Saved Games?) - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
I grabbed the update last night, but I don't seem to have the option to update again today. Is this a Stardock Central Issue? (Or is there something I might be doing wrong?) - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
This may be a stupid question ... but what is "a starbase gambit"? - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
Interesting hearing what other people do early game ... I've been increasing both tax rate and spending early game so that I can crank out colony ships. I don't know if this is a good idea, but when I've left my tax rate low, I've found that my population grows too fast which lowers my morale, which means that I can't raise my tax rate later if I need the money. - Matt Lepinski :-> ~SDC~
