Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

lol, well there's only 3 of the 4 victory conditions even remotely possible in a 0yr win. And of those, two are incredibly difficult to achieve...so I would take it that means a conquest victory. Which...can be done, but against 5 opponents, and having to use PI (since SAs were disabled) isn't exactly easy. So in any case, if you managed it, kudos to you.

Not a conquest victory.  ;) And remember that I said I "made use of some ZYW tactics".

With the ZYWs, I end on April 8th of year zero, but I've found that extending by 1-4 turns will raise my score just a bit more, if I'm still researching and not below -500bc. I'm not sure how you lasted almost a full year without going into debt. I dont use focus at all, but maybe other people do. it will definitely slow down your research though. Here is generally how my games go:

turn 1 - lease buy lab on a bonus tile, research Xeno Research
turn 2 - leas buy 2nd lab, research Advanded Computing & 1st Minitiarization tech
turn 3 - lease buy Tech Capital, research Impulse Drive
turn 4 - upgrade lab, research Space Militiraization
turn 5 - upgrade 2nd lab, research Spore
turn 6 - start buying economic structures, finish Spore
turn 7 until end of game - more economic structures, buy first spore ship, and start whacking the enemy, research diplomatic techs and sell tech to minor civs to stay out of the red economically, get Interstellar Republic, Star Democracy, Xeno Entertainment, etc, to up morale, taxes, and therefore economy score.

I usually have my space miner next to the enemy homeworld by the time I research Spore, so I can upgrade it right there and kill it immediately. Let me know if you have any questions about more specifics. Other people will probably chime in too.

I followed your starting pattern (1-5)almost exactly. I had read Wyndstar's AAR on the MVL round 6 thread. However, I am still playing DL and couldn't use the faster spore technique. I would have had it won before April, if the AI hadn't colonized more than 5 planets. My problem was that I had leased 5 transports and attacked with them and once they were all expended I hit the economic collapse and I still had more planets to kill. At that point I had shot my wad on transports and was already negative with around -380 cash per turn. Once I went past -500 all production and reaserch stopped to go pure cash, as it does, but my leases were around 273 per turn and it was impossible to get positive cash flow even in that situation. I though I was toast and would lose the game, but after playing with the sliders and focus I found that if you keep the production slider at 100% and 100% research (I was going all lab), but focused your planets on military it would still give you some production (without focus it was straight zeros on all planets). This allowed me to produce enough transports to finish the AI off, but was so slow I couldn't get it done within the year. The AI almost recovered, since I was getting zero research, slow producing transports with no attack ships, and pulling down about -380 income/turn for 3/4 of a year. I think I ended up with about -12000 cash at the end.

My score pretty much sucked, I got 0 points in military since I never built a combat ship, and I'm surprised I got 183 in Econ since it was in the toilet so long. I think it said my average income was -378 and my most profitable month was for 0.  ;p

For alignment, just set it to the evilest possible before you start the game.

I didn't know about this. Can I do this in DL? I was thinking it went with the racial default if I never had an ethics event.

I always use custom races Ragnar, so I am able to adjust the starting alignment (at least in DA), but I dont think you can with the stock races. I fiddle around with race customization a lot, especially for the ZYWs. My starting race settings are something like this:

Dark Altarians - Altarians as the base civ, but change alignment to evilest possible, just for fun. ;)
Homestar (not homeworld): Iconis;
Economics +60
Morale +40
Research +40
Federalist or Tech Party
Super Annihilator

The most important strategy is to try to squeeze everything you do into as little time as possible. By April, my economy is usually at least -500/turn. You have to squeeze every last BC out of the minors to stay afloat, unless you get lucky with anomalies. I never have any military score either, it's mostly about tech and economy, and social to a lesser degree. Spore works better because you dont need any further ground combat techs, and can instead research economy boosting techs. Planetary Invasion works, it's just a little bit slower.

0 year conquest using MVL settings for this round is certainly possible. Neilo and I both did it, though his score was 4,000 higher. I do not believe 0 year tech victory to be possible with this round's settings however (though I'll be impressed if someone proves me wrong!) :)

I looked at the custom race, but the DL version's unchangable characteristics weren't what I wanted. Another mistake I made was disabling the minor races: for some reason I was thinking it would slow me down with more planets to conquer, and I wasn't thinking about selling them tech to keep afloat. This was my first try at ZYW, so I didn't realize a couple of subtle things.

I'll get DA sometime soon, I was hoping I could get a boxed set of DA and TA, but it looks like that isn't going to happen, so I'll have to breakdown and get the digital download.

The minors are really useful, and you dont have to conquer them to get a conquest victory, so they do make it quite a bit easier.

JustinSane, I am going for the Tech victory as well, Dystopic has a quick win, but my score his a little higher. I will kick ass, and Team A will be victorious once again.

Well we are currently at war with the kitty cats... glad to share the honer with anyone. Just don't expect us to drop back just because you are falling behind in planet conquest.

The ToE behind in planet conquests to the Xionian?   This machine's circuits have been seriously scrambled. Get a technician in here for some emergency reprogramming.

Thanks Neilo! :) And the 100 victories is partly in thanks to the ZYWs, hehe. I'm getting over 30k for every ZYW game now, and have a new personal record of 35k. If I can get close to the record of 40k I will be very pleased.

Congrats to Noctilucus and KzintiPatriarch for your respective accomplishments!  :CONGRAT:

So, you're getting this ZYW thingy down, KP? I did about 5 of them and moved on. With the nice scores coming out, they might be worth revisiting.  :)

I keep making tweaks here and there and gradually getting better. Trying to compete with Magnumaniac and Wyndstar is tough! It's defnitely improving some aspects of my game, which can be applied to other more conventional games. I also like the ZYWs because if I only have a few minutes to play, I can actually complete a game and get a decent score, and gain a bit to my character score/ranking. For long games, I much prefer to sit down for at least a couple hours, or even better at least 5 hours. ;)

A machine-being talking about prey? Your data-banks seem to be scrambled. I suggest a defrag and reboot. ;)

or worse the Kzinti you no tail freaks you say your cats but your not you have no tail so what are you and don’t tell me you cats or part of the Felinoid species like the Vedalans species or the Caitians species. Ok...ok...

Kzinti have tails. They're hairless. And their ears are fan-shaped, like bat ears or somesuch. They're not cats as we know them on Earth - the "scientific" name that the UN gives them is Pseudofelis Sapiens, "intelligent catlike." The Vendalans and Caitians don't exist in Larry Niven's Known Space universe, where the Kzinti originate.

WWW Link

From a distance, Kzinti resemble huge orange housecats, however no human has ever survived making this comparison. Male Kzinti easily reach eight feet tall and can weigh in excess of 200 kilograms. Their bodies are covered in a rich coat of typically orange-red fur with yellow or white stripes. Black markings around the eyes are common. Their tails are long, hairless, and ratlike.

Kzinti have remarkably human eyes with round, instead of the slitted pupils of terrestrial cats. Their ears are hairless with multiple points. They hold their ears flat against their heads while they are calm or fanned out like parasols when angry or listening intently for the sound of prey.

They have paws like black leather gloves and sheathed long, retractile claws which are sharpened and polished. Kzinti mouths are full of needle-like teeth for tearing raw flesh. Kzinti are famous for their grin. A Kzin grins when angry or challenging someone (or something), readying their teeth by exposing them in a deadly smile.

The members of the nobility often have their own unique colouration indicating their particular class.

Perhaps I should change my Name to Graaf-Teacher-of-Monkeys.

And btw. Does anyone in the Patriarchy make ship mods? Kzin ships would be cool. And big orange balls shouldn't be that hard to make... You can even download the Kzin language font at the link I posted above to put dots-and-commas on it.
