Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

Greetings, glorious Patriarch! I, Graaf-Pilot, look forward to serving with your courageous Heroes! Soon every kshat ta'sskin in the galaxy will bow the Patriarchy of the Kzinti!

Welcome Graaf-Pilot! The Patriarchy is honored that you will be fighting alongside our t'kzintar. Report to your claw-leader immediately for deployment....you will soon feel the juices of battle flowing through your liver. May our grass-eating foes fall before you!

The "manage my account" link still seems to be broken, so I dont know how you can get the pic to show up with your avatar. Your character name is different from your login name for the forums, so if you want your login to be Graaf-Pilot you would need to change that, and with that function broken (and it has been for a while), I dont think you can change it right now. You can get a picture to show up with your individual character by going to "edit my characters". Always love to see people with Kzinti names. Again, welcome! :)

The Tyranny and their Rosie clones

I wonder how much time the Tyrants spend searching the internet for Rosie pictures. I imagine some of them have quite a collection of them. I dont have a Rosie fetish myself though... ;)

The final sprint on my gigantic map has suffered a fairly large setback. The excess ships that were bogging it down were taking too long to fix. I had to go back to a previously saved game from before the last part of the buildup.

My military rating is back down to 6 million and I'm going to have to ramp it back up again. On the plus side, I got an influence event. That should help somewhat. I'd really like a planet class or economic event.

I should have a little more time to get to it, now that my long shifts are over (finally). That is, after I mow the lawn and replace a few shingles on the roof.  :)

OK, I got the name changed, but when I went to upload the pic, the page crashed. So I'll do it later.

Nequa makes a valid point.

"The Kzinti aren't really a threat. They'll always attack before they're ready." -Beowulf Schaeffer

Always remember the Lesson of the Man-Kzin Wars: The efficiency of a reaction drive as a weapon is directly proportional to its efficiency as a drive. Creativity and patience aren't Kzinti strong points.

Although, without hyperdrive, the Fourth Fleet would have crushed Earth. Feint-and-pounce is a better strategy than scream-and-leap when dealing with kz'eerkti.

If I could award you a medal for completing this game I would. Keep soldiering on Motti!

The question is, who wouldnt want to be a cat? Get to lie around all day, people feed you, pick up your poop for you, pet you, and when you're bored you can go outside and hunt things. Sounds like a good deal to me... Well there is PlayJeff, who always says he hates cats, but we have intelligence reports that indicate that he makes ch'rowl with a Hello Kitty plush toy. ;)

I appreciate the extra effort when people make Kzinti characters. :)

Those damn Puppeteers. Someday we'll locate their homeworlds and lay waste to them. They keep moving them around though...tricky cowardly herd-beast kshats!

Ya you just keep thinking that. Human will win always no matter the cost. We made warp drive we made hyperdrive we can build star systems robots trade empires and the thing is we can destroy all of that in a heartbeat. Its sad rally. But hay at least were not the Dalek or the Cyber Men, or the Toclafane, or worse the Kzinti you no tail freaks you say your cats but your not you have no tail so what are you and don’t tell me you cats or part of the Felinoid species like the Vedalans species or the Caitians species. Ok...ok...

y'know...i'd be careful KP...I figure that occasional assassination has occurred in the Kzinti Empire before so that a new hero comes to power

Are the kzinti of any relation at all to the kilrathi from wing commander? Seems like they would be somehow.

Cool pic Motti. :D

Is that how it works in the Olympian Gods? I remember lots of backstabbing and skullduggery from the stories. ;)

hehe...actually it depends on what time frame you are looking at. Earlier Greek mythos is more 'human' and involved with the lower planes. Later, in the Hellenistic Period and into the Roman synchronization, the gods were generally more honorable and 'above' mortal affairs. One did not rationally believe that there was an actual 'being' in the rain, but yet the spiritual needs of mankind were being met in the faith of the people, and the structure imbued by clinging to, yet adapting, the old myths. Battlestar Galactica uses this interpretation of the gods for use in its show.

The kilrathi are probably derived from the Kzinti to some degree, as Larry Niven first wrote about the Kzinti in 1966, long before Wing Commander existed. Most of the stories about them are in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books.

Interesting... And now in BSG there's Gaius Baltar with his "One God", which obviously for him is simply a way to gain power over people and also get laid, but I wonder what the larger ramifications for the cylons and humans will be.

I'm sure the Riit Clan is more than capable of handling any upstart Hero that would dare challenge the hierarchy that has been in place for centuries. But that's not to say that some enterprising other member of the Riit wouldn't take advantage of the situation.

In a nutshell...I'm sure KP is secure.

I missed the ZYW by two turns! I think I went too fast on the lease buying and had a total economic colapse after I had taken 5 planets w/ 5 transports. The AI had colonized too many planets (with all rare settings I'm surprised by how many were available) before I was sunk by the leases. Interestingly I found that with military focus using 100% research I could still get production, even though I was way in the negative and not producing any research due to being less than -500 in the bank. That allowed me to finish the game eventually, but the slow limping along took me to 15 Jan of 2226.

I should be able to get it next time.

Sadly it also clasiffied me as 'very good' due to no colinization opportunities for evil, thus ruining my perfectly evil record.

With the ZYWs, I end on April 8th of year zero, but I've found that extending by 1-4 turns will raise my score just a bit more, if I'm still researching and not below -500bc. I'm not sure how you lasted almost a full year without going into debt. I dont use focus at all, but maybe other people do. it will definitely slow down your research though. Here is generally how my games go:

turn 1 - lease buy lab on a bonus tile, research Xeno Research
turn 2 - leas buy 2nd lab, research Advanded Computing & 1st Minitiarization tech
turn 3 - lease buy Tech Capital, research Impulse Drive
turn 4 - upgrade lab, research Space Militiraization
turn 5 - upgrade 2nd lab, research Spore
turn 6 - start buying economic structures, finish Spore
turn 7 until end of game - more economic structures, buy first spore ship, and start whacking the enemy, research diplomatic techs and sell tech to minor civs to stay out of the red economically, get Interstellar Republic, Star Democracy, Xeno Entertainment, etc, to up morale, taxes, and therefore economy score.

I usually have my space miner next to the enemy homeworld by the time I research Spore, so I can upgrade it right there and kill it immediately. Let me know if you have any questions about more specifics. Other people will probably chime in too. :)

For alignment, just set it to the evilest possible before you start the game.

Actually I had the same a couple of times, especially with too many AI's and a starting planet that was too far in the corner of the galaxy.
Once you hit -500bc you're usually doomed to crawl further until you can invade those last planets.

If you're a rather slow starter (compared to ZYW standards) you may research some basic weapons towards the end of the game so you can take out any small ships orbiting the enemy's planets.
If the enemy is expanding too fast, it may help to take out their homeworlds first, waging war on several AI's at the same time (1 AI makes a ZYW much easier). The secondary planets are developing much slower and you can use the production from captured homeworlds to invade secondary planets.

I've never tried a ZYW with more than one AI, but it is definitely possible. I know Neilo did one with 5 opponents. I've also tried a few things with the current Metaverse League Round settings using ZYW tactics, but I'll keep that to myself until the round is over. ;)
