Definitely interesting. I have to compliment you on providing original content as opposed to merely referencing a random article from the net and then either accepting it hook, line and sinker or subjecting it to ridicule. It will be interesting to see how you survive on this site since IMO it's not particularly tolerant of any political opinion left of Ann Coulter.
I personally find it annoying when the majority of 'research' or 'thoug
(The quote isn't mine, just one that I believe describes our situation. The quote belongs to Dr. Alexander Tytler. I don't think it has actually been proven to have happened in other democracy's either, at least not that I have found, however it does seems to be happening in our country.)
I agree with you that it does describe our situation, in sentiment at least. The quote is supposedly from his work Decli

I don't mean to slam your comment, which as far as it goes I happen to agree with in sentiment. But while perhaps accurately reflecting the ideology expressed in some of Lord Woodhouselee's treatises, this quote is unattributable to anyone, and in fact the statstic of the '200' years that has been making it's way around the net is more than somewhat erroneous. There have only actually been a couple of true democracies, and in fact the United States is NOT, nor has it ever been a democracy. We

I heard a comment on the radio the other morning with which I take issue. The guest on a local morning talk show said that "America (United States) is moving more to the center." Leaving out the whole semantic issue of what "center" means, I have to disagree. I believe that what is taking place is exactly the opposite, and that America (US) is polarizing to opposites. Part of this is reactionary on both extremes (you espouse this view, so I'll espouse a view that is even more contrarian to yo

Just a quick reminder with the increasing prevelance of all sorts of nifty devices, don't ever take your debit card on the road. Use a credit card. While some banks do provide a measure of protection against theft, if your debit card is skimmed and your account drained, you are likely going to be up a creek for a long while. Debit cards do NOT have the same types of consumer protections in place as do credit cards. Use a credit card, then pay it off when you get home.

With the summer travel and vacation season coming up I thought I'd post a travel reminder Upon re-entering the United States (including from Canada or Mexico): All electronic devices (thumbdrives, ipods, CD/DVD, laptops, phones, PDAs, cameras, etc.) you may have on your person (personal or business), in your carry-on, or in checked baggage are subject to inspection with or without cause. You may be required to divulge

Switch to using IMAP on a non-exchange based server and you won't have the .pst/.psd file size limitation. Then you too can have a 20 GB email archive going back 10 years just like mine!!!!! Seriously, y'all do an awesome job.

Arrgh.. They DO NOT CHEAT. :sniff!: They receive clearly documented bonuses. Cheating is (Websters): To deceive and defraud; to impose upon; to trick; to swindle. If Stardock said 'Hey, the AI plays by completely the same rules and stats as the human players at all levels,' then allowed the AI bonuses, THAT would be cheating. The AI plays within its clearly stated parameters, therefore since those parameters are made known to the human player - and they are able to play aga

Acturus: See my thread regarding the proxy problem. This is the one and only area in which I have not been able to make any headway. :) http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=97143 Well, that and the fact that when I run SDC from loader.exe it still refuses to let me run or install anything, declaring the I have to have Windows 98, XP or 2000. So I have to run SDC directly.

Wow. I and my brother have dealt with Stardock products since the original GalCiv for OS/2. I have never ever found the support lacking. In all my years of programming, sysadmining, IT support, etc., I have dealt with hundreds of hardware and software companies. only had a handful of times where I have actually had direct communication with the developers and/or engineers. In two of those cases I was beta testing software so it was to be expected. Stardock is one of the other few, and is th

*bows in awe and admiration for this vision* My wife would want to kill anyone who produced this type of game because there would be a distinct possiblity that I would dissappear into it forever. :) If implemented correctly, this could also solve many of the MMRPG problems today. Much like a real empire, you could give your governers and cabinet ministers orders and take a vacation. Certain events could cause email, SMS, or even pages (alphanum pagers) to get sent to you. If you wer

By the way - I LIKE SDC! It is an effective distribution platform for patching, and I appreciate all the effort has gone into it's production. I very much enjoy the fact that it only updates needed files, and that so much work has gone into minimizing download times. Outside of one time early on, SDC has never been or caused any major problems, and I have had only minor issues (like the above). :)

Firewall is not an issue. What you have said is correct as far as layer three transparent proxy with SNAT/NAT/PAT. However an HTTP proxy server does not perform packet rewriting. SDC works correctly if the correct username/pw is supplied in the SDC config. The whole point of a content filter and web proxy server is to BLOCK outbound HTTP requests unless they pass through the content filter. The problem is that SDC and GC do not appear to be protocol compliant for HTTP proxy servers which on
