I recently started a medium map with intelligent opponents (iirc) and was doing very well when the game CTD on the computer's move. I tried reloading, got the initial research/planet dialog but it was garbled(fonts) and empty. Clicking on done there, would show the main window in red (no starmap) and then the game would CTD again. Reloaded the penultimate autosave - it plays for a turn and then CTD again. (I had autosave set to 1 turn so I can backtrack and make observations

There is something odd about autopilot. I find that if I set the next destination for a survey ship it often takes one or two presses of the end turn button before it actually starts moving - whereas, if I move it manually on the next turn it does have its proper movememt points ... ~SDC~
Yet another diplomacy screen - tech trading issue. I offer a trade good to an AI player and activate the money per turn slider on their side. Once I have adjusted a value that is mutually satisfactory I can press 'send' down below without deactivating the money slider popup. The game is then left in an unstable condition - trying to initiate another trade and clicking in the still open popup will CTD. If my memory serves me right, clicking on 'done' in the popup after cl
Research bonus for planet event (underwater domes etc) is either not given, or, if it is given, it is not listed in the planet detail screen. I checked if it registered as a global bonus, but it's not showing there either. I suspect it is not given at all because other research bonuses show up just fine. -Peter ~SDC~
I cannot find anything about this in the manual, so I thought I'd maybe bring it up here: Clearly, if a planet is better, it can sustain a higher population without people getting unhappy. But, does some parameter like planet size come into this? I have landed 1 billion people on a class 16 planet and had morale start with 100, and another time it started with 30 (the latter in a solar system where I already had two planets, and both quite happy so it wasn't a problem with<
Happened to me the first time I played, ever. I colonized Saiph II and a few turns on I was told that my guys had found some precursor tech that improved the planet rating to 36 from 14..16 originally. Don't know if you should be notified if/when this happens to another civ in the game. h.t.h. -Peter ~SDC~
Ok, so I just updated the game a couple of hours ago. I reloaded a game (the one that crashed yesterday) and proceeded to play. I tried to do some trading - my 'frictionless clothing' vs. their money (15x100 bucks) - I could set the amount fine, but when I clicked on done it never showed at the bottom, in the deal window. The Altairans(?) thanked me kindly for my nice gift. I tried again with another race and again the money didn't show so I just cancelled and left. Also, I just res
There are a bunch of bonusses available in the game. With some of them the effect is clear: get Tech A and all your ships have 10% better defense .... get Tech B and your research increases 10%. Similarly, I assume every anomaly surveyed to confer a global bonus. Starbases, now, seem to bestow their bonusses only on planets and ships in the same sector. But what about resources that are being mined by a starbase? If I have a starbase mining a research resource - is that 5% g
Just had the game crash to desktop. This is the first time in about 15..20 hours of play; still ... Any use mailing you the file called debug.err or is that not relevant to the current game? I noted a few odd things when I glanced through that file, for instance initialisation errors for G:\ drive where the game has no business (it's resident in H:\), failure to initialize DirectSound (sound plays fine, though), memory allocation errors being reported. (if you wan
