am I the only one thinking that upgrading ships is way too expensive?
Sg_Serge
I want to upgrade a small-sized ship. Right now there are two early lasers (I or II) and a single drive on that ship - don't remember the details right now but the cost of the ship was 133. Upgrading this to three lasers IV again single drive amounts to 300??? This doesn't make sense at all?
The GalCiv II Knowledgebase is only related to support issues such as which resolution is supported etc, is this correct?
If a planet is fully developed, i.e. in the planet view no more farms etc. can be built, what happens to resources that are not used? 1. are they used in the same category on other planets? 2. are they used on the same planed in another category? 3. are they wasted?
Thanks for the reply I understand that battle bonuses etc. apply only in a particular area around the starbase. Also whats a bit confusing: the effect of "local" starbases, not built upon resources, seems to show in the planet detail window, but in the "planet bonuses" part of the window not in the "starbase bonuses". In the planet bonuses window I see also a 5% morale bonus, as I mentioned I have two starbases on morale resource
Ok, in GalCiv I the starbases were a huge boost. Are they still in GCII? Got the game today and I wonder about this circle around the starbases - does that mean only planets within that circle profit from the starbase? If that's the case I'm somewhat stunned, as building starbases _ON_ resources would only make sense in your own sectors. OK, one could build a starbase to avoid another player using it but that's half the fun And one mor

I think this event is nice but it should also make transports more expensive. They should not suddenly become the dreadnoughts of the game. ~SDC~
Hi, playing 1.02.049 and I only have two military starbase modules - e.g. I researched Anti-Matter already but I still don't have the Interdiction Beam or the Inverse Tractor Beam. It also doesn't show up under the Tech Description anymore... Serge ~SDC~
That's true, I had several games where I planet-rushed too much and neglected my defenses. Result? After some time the militarily strong races grew hostile and declared war on me. ~SDC~
I can understand why cashback is a problem and I'm sure you thought about it but I'd be interested anyway: what about being able to build 'support modules' as social projects which then could be shipped from one planet to the other and increase production there? That would increase Micromanagement for sure but it would also open several routes of strategic planning. Serge ~SDC~
Version 1.02, updated today on Win2000 Invaded a planet and hardly made it. Around 300m pop on the battle screen. On the Planet Screen I suddenly have -133m pop. Next turn the negative number has been replaced by 100000 - no indication whether m(illion) or b(illion). Morale 1. After a few turns I realize that the new pop is true - I just got 100b pop. serge ~SDC~
I'm working in the software industry and having even weekly patches on production software is quite some task for development. Having one patch every fortnight would satisfy me more than getting patches like the diplomacy patch that seemed rather buggy. serge
Just look at 'normal' legislature. In most european countries a 51% control of the parlament can change quite a few laws but to change the constitution you usually need 67%. We could require the same in the UP - I would go as far as 75% for penalizing a particular planet or even higher. Serge
Hi, I've been culturally dominating my game for ages now, there are about 4 sectors left which I don't dominate. When does the game start with counting the 'one-year-left'? Serge
Hi, sometimes I'm playing GalCiv offline and would really like being able to check an archived version of the forum. I could do it via IE but that wouldn't give me the GC Strategies forum. Any idea? cheers Serge ~SDC~
Would be great if there would be a good way of fiddling the prices and timelines - the way it is done now is a bit cumbersome. Also the option of asking the other side what they'd offer like they had in Civ3 would come handy. At the end of the day the game is not about entering prices and timelines... ~SDC~
:sniff!: Defense versus Colonizing Towards the end of the 'grab all planets possilbe'-phase where I try to get as many colony ships out as possible - without going too deep into debt - most relationships with my neighbours drop and pretty soon they declare war. Usually that happens before I researched defenders so that pretty much ends the game. Question: If I colonize a planet in a sector they lead in influence, does that affect their standing towards me? Question 2:
Using the PDF I found that it seems to be impossible to search for text in the PDF. Looks like the pages have been imported as images. A search facility would be a great improvement as it makes using the PDF way easier. cheers Serge
In my first game I sent out my Explorer and found a few nice systems but it looks as if I could colonize only yellow ones - there were bluish/orange etc. out there. When sending my scout there it doesn't even see whether there are any planets in there at all??? Serge
Here what's happened: Downloaded via Stardock. After app. 80-82Mb it start's installing. At about 40% it says this or that file cannot be found (one was weapons.md_) and stops. I kept clicking the 'install' button and Stardock would keep stopping the install BUT everytime with a different file, if the first missing file was file_a the next one was file_b, so there was some progress. I checked the files in the Stardock/temp/base/gfx folder and file_a (different name) was there!
Slitherin, did you check under Programs/Stardock/temp/... My files were there. Serge ~SDC~
Hi, forget my comment (Sg_Serge), issue resolved, my mistake (dummy-me) Serge ~SDC~
Hi, I just purchased the code and can't download. It tells me the Serial is wrong - it's exactly the one from the mail. At one stage it also crashed on me before giving me the error messag ~SDC~
