I dont think this ship, or the Ranger, is worth it at all on a medium map. olaf ~SDC~

I have a bug in my economy. My treasury will change to yellow numbers (indicating a loss inc), but then I will go to my economic tab on the domestic policy screen and see that I am set to turn a profit. The treasury numbers will go back to orange when I do this. But when I hit next turn, I do indeed lose money somehow, and the treasury numbers are back to yellow. olaf ~SDC~
As of the latest version (4/25), I have a bug in my economy. Battlehammers and dreadnoughts seem overpowered to me. And the AI doesnt use either of them very effectively (but especially not battlehammers). olaf
You run the galcivw exe to run it windowed though, but your desktop has to be set to 16 bit color. olaf
Its a great single player game. One of the best TB strat games ever made IMO, right up there with MOO1/2, MoM and Civ1/2. olaf
Lots of points here. I think being able to see all defending ships is a little much. Espionage doesnt seem to do anything practical for the money. And, if cloaking has a practical advantage, I havent seen it. olaf
I think this is a bug too, although a very minor one. It will say you're doing ok even if you are 10 techs up on everyone. And it will say you are falling behind if anyone has a tech you dont have. olaf
I dont think anything should be nerfed...just was answering what I thought was the 'question'. olaf
You really need to look at the scores if you think that gigantic doesnt score much more. It does, its ridiculous. Check the metaverse. You will see plentyu of 2K+ gigantic/simple wins and and plenty of sub 1K medium/tough+ wins. And the victory conditions are also ridiculous. Why should a tech victory score more? Because you sit on your ass and hit next turn? Come on. olaf
Agree. This is annoying as hell. olaf
Aye this would be nice. olaf
I think anytime you make the habitable planets rare, and give yourself the 10/15 PQ bonus the AI is at a big disadvantage, yes. olaf
Maintenance cost on starbases is a good idea. olaf
Well two things should be done that just make sense, regardless of whether or not people will tweak their play styles to max out points. 1) Reduce the impact of galaxy size on points. Gigantic win on simple shouldnt be twice the points of a medium win on tough. 2) Close the gap between the types of wins. There really ought not be any points difference between the victory types. olaf
It seems like Galaxy size has the most impact on how many points you get from a win. The type of win also seems to skew scores strangely, with Beyond Human getting a larger share of points than any other win type. IMO, game difficulty doesnt play a big enough factor in scoring. Using my own games as an example, I see that the most points (988) I have ever been credited with was a Beyond Human win on Challenging. An alliance win on Tough, same galaxy size medium, only netted me 559.<b
Winning via tech seems to give the most points, winning via culture the least. The size of the galaxy you are playing in affects victory points more than difficulty, and I think more than any other factor, which is a mistake if you ask me. It seems like difficulty should play the biggest part, then galaxy size, then how you win. olaf
I think I finally fixed the problem. It seems AGP Fast writes on was the trouble. Turned that off and problem went away. Yay! olaf
Well I emailed Frogboy my saved game, hopefully that will tell him something. I am begining to think its a problem with my 9800 or its drivers though. I had a ti4600 in this machine when I first started playing GalCiv, and didnt ever see these problems. Anyone else running a 9800Pro with this game ok? Or even a 9700? What catalyst drivers do you use if so? olaf
Seems to happen mostly with Frigates, if that helps. And when using the Windows client, the menu bar says (Not Responding) next to the version number 1.02 olaf
Still having this problem after a reinstall via SDC. Its really annoying at this point. How do I contact Stardock officially? I submitted a ticket with Strategy First, but somehow I dont think that is going to get anywhere. olaf
Still having those goddamn combat slowdowns after a reinstall. I am getting a little pissed off. Is there a tech board, or a contact for Stardock tech support? I submitted a ticket with Strategy First but I am sure that wont get anywhere. olaf
I think it can cloak, cant it? What does that really do for you though? olaf
Still, dreads are a little too good relative to the ships before and after it. Especially when you factor cost in. They are much better than even Rangers for the money, and why in the hell would anyone build a Phoenix? olaf
Those forums were a great source of amusement for me right before and for a few weeks after MOO3 came out. olaf
