Yeah, they need either to update it to 8.1 or put the disclaimer higher and more predominately on the page. I just bought it and found out.

Desktop Windows Manager in DeskScapes Stardock Forums

I just installed Dreamscapes 3, am using Windows 7. When I try to apply a Dreamscape animated background I get a dialog which states: "The Desktop Windows Manager does not seems to be active at this time on your machine. Applying the Windows Aero theme or any WindowsBlinds theme (if WindowsBlinds is installed), should enable the DWM if your machine is capable of running it."
