I concur. Starbases will extend your range across the whole galaxy, even on an insane map. A few life supports on custom ships can get you anywhere on the map when combined with the starbases. I build mining starbases when possible, but a lot are just influence ones to extend my range.

An update - A trade offer came up and crashed the game, so I reloaded and attacked the strongest AI, which was the only one left with a significant military. I had a thought that the number of ships that AI owned might be causing an overflow similar to the one when you get close to a million bcs. I do find it odd that a 64 bit game can't handle a number above 1 million, but I digress. After attacking the strongest AI, the trade offer didn't reappear and I wiped out
I don't know. I did not even try. But I would like to ! I also have a question in this subject : if I want to have a second account (to play against myself at home or against my "not-really-motivated" girlfriend), can I just buy a second time the game, on my actual account ? Or do I need a second Steam account, before I buy another time the game. Thank you. P.S

I keep getting CTDs on my current game. It's the same one where I reported that the Krynn Carriers are using Transport Icons and the one where I reported the stuck on "Idle Ship" bug. Insane map, vanilla races, godlike difficulty. The save game is in my Krynn Carriers bug thread. There's no warning that it's about to happen. All seems to be going well and the game just disappears from the screen. I have to save the game several times per turn

There's a sortable planet screen as well, but it only shows you the planets you own. I think that's sufficient. It can be improved though. Currently, after you select a planet based on economy, population, manufacturing, or whatever, the list forgets your sort selection when you return from the planet. Also, when you select a planet from that screen, the game's focus should go to that planet so you can find it on the map. I'm sure the devs wi
Had the same problem. I find that everytime this happens and I reload there are idle ships with turns available. But the turn button comes up and the game kind of stops after you hot the turn button. Some times the ships are aligned with a planet (i.e on the same tile) instead of being stationed in the planet and sometimes there are just standing and idling. So I have started to check whether there are ship

I've now had two back to back games that got stuck in the middle of a turn with a grayed out "Idle Ship" being displayed on the Turn button. I abandoned the first one thinking it was a one off fluke, but this is twice in a row. Both times were on the newest 1.12 update and I hadn't had this issue before. Both games got stuck around turn 240-ish. Both were Insane maps on Godlike difficulty with vanilla races. In my current game, I was able to continue
Ship yards should be upgradeable just like starbases. This can then allow for rush safe yards at the beginning and mega forts at the end.
I'd like to be able to upgrade my shipyard defenses. Until then, one ship with weapons and no engines does the trick.
Its a minor issue to be honest. Granted it WILL lock out out of specializations it can be annoying. I find that if one gifts it to you can usually buy the one you want from another Civ. I agree this is something that would be nice to have but its not game breaking.
Ditto. It's more of a minor annoyance than a game breaker. It's an annoyance nevertheless.
Did you start with a clean sheet design or did you use the transport as a base? There is a bug where the ship icon doesn't update properly when saved if you change an existing design.
I always obsolete the auto designs and didn't have any Transports when I made the first Carrier. The Carrier template uses cargo hulls. I started with a large hull. It happened again with huge hulls.
What turn is this? 180 pop? Everything can be nuts given enough time.
It's obviously late game, but the premise can be used much earlier. Auto-upgrade per planet can be turned off so the hammers can be focused early on. Then, you can switch to upgrading as you gain the beakers or cash. I like the idea! :) And your first +1 of hopefully many Karmas to the op.

We need the per planet and the global wheels and they need to be the same as each other. That being said, they can be improved with almost any random change that anyone can think of. I think entering numbers, rather than playing with the mouse would be vastly superior. There are examples of the idea in photo editing software. You could type a number into an anchored variable and type numbers or slide a value with a ratioed variable until the desired mix is obta

I agree that the scoring in the new Metaverse is pretty useless, but the important part is the submission of games so the AI will learn from us. Even if the scoring made some sense, the AI is much more important than a leaderboard. For competition, there's MP, so GavCiv3 has that advantage over GalCiv2. Perhaps, when all the tweaks are in, Stardock might want to reset the MV scores and let everyone start from scratch. If it's important enough.
I am using an Alien17, i7 laptop. this is a game machine. I have never had a game continually screw-up as GC3. I suffered for 9hrs with the wrong info screened and messages that are cut-off. Silly AI tactics like, building 30 tiny ships and parking them on a planet. When I attack with 10 cruisers and frigates the graphics get all squarely. Then to my horror the cheap-ass game locks-up. Then goes to a black screen. NINE HOUR

Getting back to the OP's, well, op... his primary complaint was the lack of ability to plan ahead due to planet sniping. There are valid reasons for not being able to colonize a planet that he had his eye on. It might be an extreme planet that he doesn't have the tech for. He might be drastically low on pop. His colonizer producing shipyard might be really far away. His economy might have gone negative and he can't produce a colonizer util he's in the
