Dusted off this old game again and have a question about creating a custom race. Do the political party attributes stack with the ability bonus's you select on race creation? For some reason I have it in my head that duplication of abilites/attributes did not so there was not much point in taking a bonus in creativity then take the political party that gives you the +20 and +1 sensors. You would only wind up with the higher of the 2 rather then having them stack. I c

Been awhile since I played this game due to all the crashes I was getting. I kept one game that I started as a metaverse game but kept updating the version hoping that one day it would not crash and I could finish it. This saved game has gone through about 3 or 4 versions. I would play a couple turns get frustrated and put the game away till the next version came out. Well after several versions and several months I upgraded to the latest greatest and whoohoo no crashes. I was actually

Next time it happens just play it out and watch what happens to your research. I was able to research darn near a whole branch of weapons in one shot. Sound good in theory but with no cash you cant produce ships

I had the same thing happen to me in a game. Not that this helps the developers. I did post this under a title of "Total Game Meltdown" in bug reports. Had a few more specifics with that post that I wont bother repeating. It was interesting to say the least. Hopefully I will have it happen again as I will save the game.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but it is my understanding that the main reason for this is to prevent copywrite infringement/piracy. You are able to download and play the version 1.0 with no restrictions on the game itself. It is only if you want updates that you are forced into the situation you are talking about. Since Stardock allows you to pretty much play the game for free it is left up to you as a consumer to make an informed choice about

I watch the battle viewer for the stats About the only thing I need to see in combat in the attack and defence rating of the ships and you can find that out before going into combat. The rest is pretty much eyecandy. After seeing one or two combats I am pretty much content that there is nothing more to view until tactical combat is a reality (not holding my breath on that one either)

I don't notice much of a difference. It might have been the game as I see about the same amount as what I had prior to DA with 1.5 patch. I do not know what algorithm they use to determine the tiles but being a fan of Control N for a decent start position it seem pretty random.

I found that tech trading was quite strange after the patch. To be honest I usually played with tech trading off but wanted to give it a shot again. In some cases I would have to trade an outrageous amount of techs, planets , gold , my first born child etc etc in order to get the green light. Found this quite silly expecially when you are offering 1 similar tech for another Toxic world for aquatic for example. You would think that this would be a no brainer for the AI (nope).

A little advance planning will help out after the normal booze and loose women stop. Best Rule is keep your populations down low. My Rule of Thumb- Keep only one farm per planet unless you want to be building more entertainment centers on them. I find this is a waste of a good tile on the normal planets. Dont build farms on tiles that have more then the 100% bonus. A 300% tile for farming ballons up your population way to high once you start upgrading your farming tiles. <br/

At first glance the game is more than great, its amazing. Thats all you needed to say

I know how you feel. I had exactly the same thing happen to me only it was all 9 races. Strange thing was I don't remember even looking at the intels. I normally just set the game to painfull and get on with it. Now I check the first race I run across to ensure the intel is not set to village idiot.

To be honest I find that its mainly based on proximity to my starting position that determines AI survivablity. The closer the AI is to me the quicker it seems to get wiped out (go figure). I am not much for research or culture games. Like most I prefer a good toe to toe battle. For midgame type stats (before I really get rolling on attacks) I find that there is no particular race that seems dominant. Survivablity seems more dependent on position then a race specific advantage. The rac

Just finished a really disappointing game. It didnt take to long because the AI just didnt seem to kick in and I kept playing just to see if it ever would. My settings were Huge/Abundant Everything/Painfull with no restrictions on the AI intel/No Tech Trading/Max AI and Minor Races/Normal Research I had a good initial setup and progressed quickly through the colony rush stage. I noticed that the AI just was not expanding. I kept playing but it was obvious that something was no

First want to say that for an Expansion DA exceeded my expectations. I base this on past history of buying expansion packs and comparing what was offered to the DA expansion pack. DA kicks some serious butt in this category with all the improvements in graphics, additions, and overall game play. That being said... as with anything there is room for improvement. Everyone has an opinion based on their style of game play on what features they would like enhanced or added. I play on h

There is a program called Galactopedia that is an offline technology tree of sorts. It also gives you the techs and what they will enable you to do. Not sure if we are allowed to post the link here but will give it a shot http://www.kynosarges.de/Galactopedia.html Its sometimes nice to know what advances you will need to research in order to get to a certain level of ship hull but other then the start up ships you get with a new senario always build your own as others

Was playing a huge metaverse game and was about 1/2 way through. Good econ and could see that things were pretty much over for the AI's unless they banded together and attacked me all at once. Then something interesting happened. I noticed that my income went from around a 9000 credit treasury to a negative number so large that I had .... at the end of it as it was to big to fit on the screen. Thinking it might go away I proceeded to play on through the turn. My sliders were s

Sounds good. I have been scaling down the planets and stars thinking that might help with the overall performance. That and keeping ship counts really low is hurting me I guess when looking at getting a high score. I have upgraded and overclocked my system to get the best performance without melting a hole in the mb so am going to have to be content with what I have till the quads are mainstream . Trying to hold off buying a duo till then. Pretty sad when your mother-in-law has

After reading over these replies I was wondering if there is any way to get a decent score without having to play the largest size map. You folks are talking about 1000+ ships. My last huge game I played just had 1 ship on each planet for a deterent to transports and a couple of fleets of 5 or so ships to mop up the various AI's. I probably didnt have more then 100 ships at any given time. Based on my less then state of the art machine *sigh* I find that playing even a huge ma

Some really excellent ideas! I would like to see the following as my top 3 picks. 1.) Tactical Combat Option- I dont want to remove the auto combat feature as sometimes it comes in handy for battles that are not that important. When the rubber hits the road though I would like more control over a battle with MOO style interface that allows you to control ship attacks based on the combat abilities of the ships you create. This would allow things like strategic sniping of transpo
