Starbase weaponry is meant only for defense if the starbase is engaged directly by an enemy fleet. It is not meant to take pot shots at enemy ships. The only starbase that can be used for offense/defense is the military starbase, which can be upgraded to assist nearby fleets - it can only indirectly support fleets, it cannot take pot shots either. (It's abilities are among the best in the game, however and are considered extremely vital and

Like the topic says, I am looking for opinions on planetary defenses. Currently they seem to be not very useful given their (relatively) extreme manufacture/build time, and most wars will (sometimes anyway) be over by the time the thing sees an end to construction. Key worlds will be siezed and fleet fights will be exchanged in often fast and brutal fashion, often resulting in planetary invasions within a few turns of a war being started - t

OOKAY, more testing and results. (I hope you guys nail this one, 'tis annoying) (Metaverse) 1. Attempted deletion of ships folder. Result: nothing. 2.Reinstalled Galciv2 to get rid of Kryo's hull mod, as per instruction. Result: negativo. (non metaverse) 3.Attempted playing outside metaverse. Result: similar (see: bad) performance. Also see previous attempts.

Anything below 5 = no factories. Period. Every other planet - 2 factories, minimum.(Even research worlds) There is much upgrading being done, and the factories remain useful and effective as the game goes on.

From the lowest setting to "Bright" the AI runs at a reduced manufacturing capacity and does not have strategies to counter human actions, but when you get closer to bright more strategies become available. At bright, all strategies are available and the playing field is even. Everything above bright has a penalty against *you* in production, if I recall.

Yeah, Torians seconded. I almost got culture rolled until I struck their capital world out of pure desperate survival. (Which turned it around) - Altarians are also annoying in this regard. The Yor also concern me, given their manufacturing talent. (They always seem to have big fleets, but they seem to be trustworthy)

I was a fan of missiles and beams since day 1. Never mass drivers though, I think it's because of the effects. (If they looked a little more like the railguns in Eraser, we'll talk) (Note: I didn't go too far in the tree, so they could still look like those)

I agree entirely. I think they started off good making the large ships slow and the fighters "darty", but the attack patterns are pretty random and wild.
