Every skin?

The pre-installed skins?

Just tried those 3. Masters, I'll check others. I won't have time to check every skin.  :P

Corporate, Sublime, Diamond, Win 8, Win 8 Metro. (Preinstalled.)

They do the same thing. I'm certain there are more, I have a lot of skins.

How do I add more wallpapers from other folders, like it was possible to do in wb7? (Have them spread out on different discs). Have tried to drag and drop, doesnt work.

confirmation.

COMODO ANTVIRUS even if disabled or exited WILL crash explorer over and over if windowblinds is installed.

uninstalled it, windowblinds running sweet as, even the explorer windows, and start 8 not displaying odd behaviour either.

now to find another anti-virus :/

any recomendations?

MS Security Essentials/Defender

I can confirm also Comodo Internet Security version 6.1 was causing my explorer crashes too.

Seems odd it was causing this problem since Windowblinds stated it installed correctly, however the systray icon would never appear.

Applied Skins work great. Even older ones.

However, I run in to an issue when I revert back to Windows Aero theme ( which should be renamed to indicate it is the default OS theme ).

After doing this, Chrome seems to go belly up and give me the "Aw Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage" screen.

I have to either apply a WB Skin or uninstall WB completely to get this to work right again.

Ran into this also strangely its working for me now: i uninstalled chrome uninstalled wb8beta / rebooted installed wb8beta installed chrome

.... and now i can change skins how i want without getting the "AW SNAP!"

Taskbar porblems seem to be only on my end - taskbar transparency is simply not working for me( when i choose win8 or diamond the taskbar goes grey solid ) or blue solid without a hint of transparency
strangely windowframe transparency works- i already submitted a ticket about this. with the bugreport.rar in it and the screenshots.

Windows8
x64 pro Systembuilder
Norton AV
screenshots included in the ticket...
Skins causing this are the ones included with the beta release like corparate if manualy enabled transparency on taskbar / diamond in general without any adjustments and with / also win8 does it
for me only the taskbar is not displaying any trasnparency if i adjust it manualy over the transparency fader the taskbar will just turn black.

I like the little preview window tho

* If a skin has a explorer background set that is not plain white it simply does not get displayed it will however turn transparent
screeny

Are you sure you have not messed with the explorer background transparency settings and set them to be very transparent?

Regarding the taskbar, do you have anything on your machine that might be making the Windows 8 taskbar solid (vs the usual translucent)?

Several image use issues in Windows 8 using a Windows 7 skin I have noticed, but I imagine an update to SKS later will fix them, right Neil?

I can start keeping a list if you like.

Please do report any issues now.  It is expected that existing WB7 skins should work perfectly with WB8.  SkinStudio is simply an editor like notepad.

Will do, give me a bit. :)

Here are some issues I have noted:

OS Info: Windows 8 Professional x64

First, the WB8 icon will not show in the tray area unless you go in and set it to Show Icon and Notifications on every boot. After rebooting it goes back to hidden all by itself.

Also, within WB8 itself the preview images on the left show the start buttons high up on the task bar on several skins even though they apply correctly, centered vertically when the skin is applied.

Using Windows 7 skins on Windows 8 produces several issues:

1. The show desktop image, even though it shows in Windows 7, does not show in Windows 8. This may be a forced OS issue though.

2. The start panel separator images are off in many skins even though they look fine in Windows 7, adjusting them using SKS in Windows 8 resolves the issue though.

3.  The text margins used in a Windows 7 skin on the places panel do not display correctly on Windows 8, text has moved up considerably.

4. If you hover over an item in the programs panel that brings up a task list on the right side, the text color on the items in the task list is black and not as the text color assigned.

5. If you set an item in the places panel to be a popup menu instead of a link, the item mouse over image is not the same as it is in Windows 7, it is just a solid color.

6. The menu bar background (or toolbar image, not sure in Windows 8) in explorer windows (File, Computer, View, Etc.) is white and does not use the image supplied in Windows 7.

7. The log off button text (Shutdown) is not using the font assigned in Windows 7, and even changing it in SKS under Windows 8 does nothing at all.

8. Randomly an open window, could be any program or even explorer, will freeze and you cannot close it unless you right-click on the item in the task bar and close it there. For instance clicking on the close glyph does nothing except make the window appear in an inactive state and it becomes completely unresponsive unless you close it on the task bar.

9.  The text and search image on the search bar on the start menu, even though centered vertically in Windows 7, is shifted downward a pixel or two in Windows 8.

I think these are all self-explanatory and do not require screenshots. Just check a few skins and you'll see.

More to come, I am sure.  :)

Oh, and by the way, checking "Email me when someone replies" at the bottom of a thread when posting does not work, no emails are being sent.

1. yes sorry transparency on the background was active / my bad its working now...thanks

2. regarding the taskbar / no but i have Tuneup Utilities it comes with a "styler" but i dont make use of that.
Windows Aero ( the main windows8 skin ) works and has transparency.  Unless that there is only Decor8 ModernMix and Deskscapes8

I have a new laptop with W8 which has never had W7 or Windowblinds on it and I use Avast free version. I had no problems with installation  and the icon shows in my system tray.

The only thing I noticed is that when I'm in Firefox 22.0 with a lot of tabs running, when I try to delete a tab by clicking on the 'X', it goes right through the tab and clicks on the 'minimize' button on the top window frame.

Under Windows 8, the Logitech Gaming Framework (the software for my G35 headphones and G15 keyboard) will not load if WindowBlinds is active. I have to disable WB to open up Logitech's software.

Windows 8 Pro, ESET Antivirus 6, AMD HD 6690, latest (non-beta) drivers.

Couldn't make WB8 work on my computer until I disabled HIPS protection from ESET 6.

After the required reboot, WB8 registered as active, however after aplying a skin, everything went to black except for the configuration screen.

I tried unsucessfully to apply the "default" skin, but nothing worked, so I resolved to try to logoff/logon via the CTRL+ALT+DEL menu.

Nothing worked, so I resorted to rebooting.

After logging in again, the screen went to black.

I tried every recovery option Windows 8 offered, but nothing worked.

Finally I had to reinstall Windows 8.

yep.... it is eset... i just uninstalled it and it is now working.  Funny though... absolutely no other programs have issues with it.

Unfortunately it looks like this may be something only ESET can fix as it is something they are doing.

Excluding wbcore.exe from it didn't seem to help here.

EDIT: I have found a way to make ESET happy.

Open the configuration window for ESET, click on the setup option.

Then under Computer you should see something called HIPS with a green dot and enabled next to it.  Click on enabled and pick setup from the menu.

On the Advanced setup screen find the configure rules button and click it.

Then click new... at the bottom

Give the rule a name like WindowBlinds and set action to ALLOW.

Then on the source applications tab pick Add... and browse to the WindowBlinds directory and select wbcore.exe

As best I can tell you do not need to configure any of the permissions on the other tabs, but if this still does not work then just tick them all.

Then click ok on each of the dialogs and sign out.

When you sign back in you should find WindowBlinds 8 is now happy with ESET (or rather ESET is happy with WindowBlinds)

----

We will be contacting them to see if they can white list us as that's an unreasonable number of steps.

These steps are only required on Windows 8.  Windows 7 users should not need to do that.

You are exactly right... that fixed it for me :)

I was fully expecting to post an issue when I found the previous comments on eset. The wcore.exe add worked perfectly.

Very impressed and satisfied with the work the Stardock team has done with WindowBlinds for Windows8!

Thank you for your time and effort in getting WindowBlinds working with Windows8, Neil and Team... it has been worth the wait - Job Well Done!
