Another group that's bad- fighting game fanboys.

I don't see how Civ fanboyz couldn't be the worst. They are backed by 2k which I believe stacks the deck using shills. These people are there 24-7 to post immediately if you post a dissenting remark. Most aspire to work there, are beta testers, or other types of coders. I found one guy who was actually a beta tester there. His name is Dale. He can say whatever he wants to you in response to your post, but when you reply back even briefly it is trolling. Pretty much any type of dissent is conveniently classified trolling. Meanwhile the same person you responded to and got in trouble will post 20 more times in the thread. Usually extremely long paragraphs to the point where it will take up more than half of the page. You can't even comment on it. I was banned from 2k the day Civ V came out, and I thought that I was being well behaved. I posted about a number of bugs, and problems my friend had experienced. Suddenly I'm responding to people saying I don't even have a friend. Not to mention that the bugs really don't exist. It's impossible for you not to be able to get onto Steam. Everything you are saying is completely idiotic. What do you mean your friends game isn't really on the disk do you know how ignorant you are sounding? If your friend bought the game why isn't he here? Why wouldn't he have the internet at his house no such person even exists. Steam servers are never busy either you're a troll. Banned!

Everything I said was later proven true of course, but no apologies from the fanboys or anyone else. I came back much later and found that post I had made, and responded that it was true. Banned for trolling. I found the Civfanatics sites and others linked to them exactly the same. No surprise really as I stared at the 1up banner selling the game.

Feel free to comment on that Shafer, heh.

Yeah, at CivFanatics they've really cracked down since Civ5 came out.  I'm generally very civil in my postings (though not above constructive criticism), and had been been posting on CivFanatics for years without issue.

Once Civ5 came out, oh boy.  I found myself getting a warning and having my posts edited every time I went there until I eventually stopped posting.  I suspect 2K's PR department handles much more than advertising.

Kind of a shame too as 2k has two of my favorite franchises (Xcom and Civ), but how can you trust a publisher with absolutely no integrity.  Really wish Stardock could make a new X-com game :(

Or more realistically - the site is called "Civ Fanatics", and is for people who like Civ. I had no problems posting there when Civ 5 came out in terms of warnings/bans, and I was pretty negative. But over time I left because constantly posting negative stuff just gets annoying after a while, and at this point the owners want a forum where the people who do like Civ 5 can talk about it without yet another "why Civ 5 is worse then Civ 4" thread.

You saw the community react similarly here after the launch. There was a couple weeks of the launch, then people just wanted those still complaining about the launch to go away because the people who wanted to talk about the game were being drowned out by the launch stuff which at that point was simply endlessly repeating the same things over and over again and was just noise (Stardock doesn't ban people nearly as easily though).

Hell, last week MMO Champion's owner threatened to ban people starting more threads on Rift. People speculated about all kinds of nefarious "Blizzard/Curse are afraid of people talking about Rift" type stuff, but in reality it's a WoW forum and he doesn't want 50 Rift threads creating noise. There's two threads for talking about Rift, and thats where posts go.

I got a warning for stating I would not buy Civ5 because it required the steam virus. I used to have a lot of respect for that forum, but after Civ4 came out, CivFan went very downhill. I mean very, like the average user age dropped from college and older down into the adolescent range. The problem is in the way the site is run, most of the moderators are egos without integrity. Some are so incredibly incompitant it is amazing the company keeps them around. But that is Firaxis/2K, the company still copying their 20 year old games and claiming these new versions are state of the art, cutting edge examples of the industry. :D

Speaking of forums, I was at the StarCraft II Battle.Net forums two days ago and it was miserable....flaming everywhere and people are getting away with it!   Can't believe that the mods don't swing the banhammer in their faces! >:(
