what's the greatest movie monster of all time?

Tokyo Beware!

For me, it's the monster from Colverfield.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloverfield_%28creature%29   I love the conept of a monster on a rapage not because it's evil, but because it's scared, and seeing it from a regular Joe's point of view make it all themore terrifying.

John Carpenter's The Thing. I get girls to watch it and they love it. Early 80's special effects that still make me squirm a bit in my seat after seeing the movie 20+ times. Great story too. Not just a wanton gore-fest.

Hmmm, my favorite monsters. Here is a short list.

1. Godzilla. Just because it's been around a lot longer than the Cloverfield monster.
2. The Alien from "Alien". I would not want to meet this guy in person.
3. Gizmo. So cute, so lovely, so deadly if you feed him after midnight.
4. Al Gore. Come on, he has the word "Gore" in his name.

I have to agree. Loved that movie. A lot my frieds didn't like it or didn't like the guy.

Hey, remember that crazy guy who used lite hobos on fire?

Yes...

I'm just saying wouldn't it be so scary right now if a flaming hobo came of the dark.

That is pure gold.

I heard they were making a Cloverfield 2... and they're filming it in Canada.

For me, "Young Frankenstein" FTW

Barogon from War of the Monsters. Here's why he's a cool monster:

1. He shoots ice OUT HIS TONGUE!!! How many monsters can boast that?

2. He's practically impervious to anything you can throw at him.

3.

Varen the Unbelievable!!!

But seriously, everyone knows its Godzilla. When the cloverfield monster or whatever can shoot atomic fire beams, you let me know.

Note: only the traditional man-in-suit Godzilla qualifies - the CGI Godzilla from that awful Hollywood movie just doesn't deserve to be called Godzilla.

I don't see how anybody can even try to argue anybody but Godzilla as the greatest movie monster of all time. There are lots of movie monsters, but only one Godzilla, who will reign forever supreme, because he is Godzilla.

Too true. I quote Mittermeier in calling that Godzilla 'Schwäbische Spätzlesechse'. The real Godzilla, however, is tied with the first Alien for my monster of all time.

The Thing gets my vote too. With aliens in close second.

the thing would eat everything and i just realised the cloverfield monster looks like a bulked up leaper from resistance fall of man

Seems like you could split it into two categories, best Horror and Best "Monster" movie.

For me, hands down its John Carpenter's The Thing, which IMO was the greatest horror movie of all time. Best story, best plot, best (and scariest) critter.

If I had a favorite monster, though, it'd be the Alien Queen I think. Or maybe King Kong.

Wow.

I'd seen The Thing at the rental place before, and it looked mildly interesting, but after reading all of these, it's on the top of my list for 'next movie I need to watch'.

Yes. Good choice. Me and my dad love that movie and that monster. The effects from a movie made in the early '50s that still look cool. I love how when the monster sneaks into the ship and it goes up the stairs and they bend under its weight...

It's hard to describe what it is without ruining the great story. If you want to know, rent it and I promise you will be glad you did.
