[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

7 Deadly Sins
NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

I can't get this mod to work every time i try i get a mini dump and the game crashes. Is there something different that I need to do for this mod?

This particular mod is no longer being updated, you'll have to get a different mod that includes this one already in it, like the on myfist and harpo pointed out.

rjhughes67 keeps much of what he has up to date

I use a version of this I've adapted for OS.  I could release it if anyone wants it.  It's kinda stripped down, however.  I liked the planets and bonuses and adapted them for my own modding.  Great work here.

Hello,

I have sins v1.191.  This mod looks fantastic and I really would like to use it for that version of Sins.  I read this extensive forum thread and tried several different methods to try and get this to work.  All have failed. :'(   Let me apologize in advance if this question has been answered in a previous post and I just missed it. (My eyes started to cross after reading for a while).

Any help would be greatly apreciated!

Thanks!!!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I did go there and downloaded the "SinsPlusEntr1.051RG" file.  Put it in the "Mods-v1.191" folder and went into the game and activated it and it caused the game to crash.  Should I not be treating this like a mod and just override/add to the original game files?

Thanks!

EDIT: I should clarify that I do not have any expansions... I have vanilla sins v1.191.

yeah, I think that maybe for Entrenchment at 1.051

highly recommend getting the expansions, well worth the money

hmmm, I think you might have to go and use Harpo99999's tools that update these things

Yeah, I figured that was my best bet as well... I've been messing around with those all day and can't get it to work, i.e. keep getting run time errors or "sorry wrong folder NO conversion instructions available"

I'm so confused... I suppose the expansions are only $10 a pop, but I'm a really cheap bastard! LOL

yeah, I think the issue is that harpo's tools don't go back far enough to update this

but yeah I understand the wanting to pinch pennies,

ryat you are correct, the mod updater can ONLY work with mods & expansions that have version numbers in the mod folder name( ie sins 1.15,entrenchment 1.00,diplomacy 1.00), and do not have any instructions for earlier versions of sins, and also from 1.09 and earlier there is also the textures channel function change that happened with 1.1 as well as the entity changes, so is beyond the capability of the mod updater which only alters entity files.

I imported by hand and it works fine. The planet entities need a few parts added for diplomacy and the planetIndustrial.entity has an error. Getting CB in now but it has a lot of waste and I am giving it a major trim.

Thanks for all the help guys! Well I ended up getting Entrenchment (!)  Now I'm trying to get Galaxy Forge to be able to make maps... For some reason it is not working with Entrenchment.  I DL'd GF3 from sins' website and then applied the "fix" mentioned on the top of this page to try and build some maps with these purdy new planets, but when I save them in the Galaxy folder, they don't show up.... =/ Ugh, I can't win.

Do you guys have any ideas?  I'll keep messing with it and update if I figure it out.

Thanks!

I think I got it to work... But it's a little bit of a clunky process.  Apparently I'm not the only one that is having issues with Galaxy Forge maps not showing up for Entrenchment.  I went to This link: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?aid=341528 and followed the instructions listed there and it works now!

To be frank, it seems that Ironclad should have a smoother process for this... Maybe there is and I don't know about it...

Either way, Great MOD!!!

P.S. Just a thought: Have you considered adding a "Pressure Cooker" planet, (read Venus)?  I suppose a Volcanic planet is similar, but, not to sound too geeky here, Venus is actually geologically inactive.  It's just really frickin' hot and has a massive amount of pressure, i.e. "Pressure Cooker."  If I can figure out how to make 3D planets (which I really would like to do) I'll make that one and let you guys know about it.  I love 3D rendering, and I'm assuming 3ds max would be the choice program to make a planet, but I just don't really know the program all too well.

Anyway, Thanks for everything!

Creating a planet is 1% mesh (model) and 99% texture. You can use any existing planet mesh (copy and rename) and apply the new -cl.dds and -da.dds textures made with photoshop or Gimp (free). Then add the new planet to the GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef in the mods GameInfo folder. Use a model program to enlarge or shrink the sphere or a community made tool to enlarge and shrink meshes. Get the tools at http://soase.weebly.com/modeling-tools.html.

To find the new location for maps look at harpos info here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174739/get;2718352

I get that a lot  :P .

There are a few more steps to creating a planet but that will get you well on your way. Just ask when you need more help or I might add a page to my http://soase.weebly.com/

I have downloaded a version of Sins Plus for Diplomacy from here:

http://ricksgalaxy.homestead.com/links.html

Where can I find some good maps containing all of the new planet types?

It's easier to dl the Uzii galaxy forge editor files, most of the maps people made and posted are either super large or incredibly tiny. Besides, map making's fun, and you can make YOUR galaxy ;) personally I like 4 factions split by a huge magnetic cloud/nebula around the sun, plenty of pirates, gas giants and set up so that refineries and trade ports are maximized in their efficiency ;p if you want that map I could send it, but the version it is now is for Distant stars

I have downlaoded the version available at RicksGalaxy, bt everytime I play the tech tree and abilities icons are all skewed and showing the wrong pictures...

Can anyone help?

I'm having trouble following the modpath described in the Readme.

I do not see any Mod folder at all when I go into the AppData folder.

Is my problem because I don't have the disc or something?

I should also mention that I do not have an "Ironclad Games" folder, rather I have a "Stardock Games" folder.

I appreciate any help.

Is there any readme file which lists the changes in the Diplomacy 1.2 compatable Sins Plus mod? I've seen the basic descriptions, but I'd like a little more information on what's been done! If not, I'll just have to live with it :p
