Petition for Single Player Campaigns!
I cannot be the only one who enjoys them, can I?!
I cannot be the only one who enjoys them, can I?!
im with u as the lack of a campaign nearly made me sell the game until i found some cool mods that add new stuff
Instead of selling the game, why not just play online multiplayer (what some people call the "real" Sins game)?
Umm I think this thread is very very old news. I'm pretty sure Ironclad said that Sins 2 will have a campaign. If that is wrong then yes I sign this too. I want to know who or what is chasing the Vasari! ![]()
I LOVE being told stories, and my main gripe with Sins when I got it WAS the lack of a campaign, and still is. Does that mean I dont enjoy Sins? No. I love this game but it would be SO MUCH better if they had a campaign to add depth and detail to the game. I am one of those people that enjoy playing single player over multiplayer, and often replay campaigns on other games.
I was overjoyed when I heard they would add a campaign to Sins, and I hope they are still going to after the first expansion is released.
You play the campaign once, maybe twice, HOWEVER, the content, if the campaign is well crafted, affects how you see the factions when you play them. I like a campaign that adds life to the backstory. I also like, perhaps as much as a good campaign, faction specific and/or plotline driven events that significantly affect outcome and are related to backstory. If the Vasari put up warp tunneling devices, but there was a chance that something dark could come rampaging through (not necessarily attacking them always). If there was a chance of the Advent getting a proposal for psychotropic drug deals, having significant affects on pirate activity, income, and possibly some affect on culture spread rates. I. for one, loved things like the planet Orion, Antaran attacks, and the like. It made your *race:custom* race, even, feel like it was a part of a greater galaxy.
Quite. I for one am not even remotely interested in playing multiplayer in anything - that's not what I play these games for. When I want to play a human, I play a tabletop wargame. But I don't begrudge other people playing it.
I think Sins, as part RTS will handle a campaign, though I suspect the clever part is finding a way to do it well. GalCiv's campaigns, as other have mentioned, lost my interest almost straight away; as far as I'm concerned, persistance is everything. (Which is the reason I though Dawn of War: Dark Crusade was great and Soul Storm was crap.)
As previously mentioned, Alpha Centauri managed to have a plot in the sandbox, so it's possible. I think though, Sins, being a hybrid RTS/4X would need a new type of campaign hybrid to shine. Star Wars: Empire At War's campaigns I think are sort of the way you'd go - have a sort of 'tech level' cap that rises as the game goes on, assign a mission of objective to move the plot, but slap in a load of non-critical systems to deal with and expand the map as the campaign progresses. I guess we'll see eventually.
I'll look foward to it.
I agree, i don't play multiplayer beacuse to be competitive with the kids or the adults with no life, I would have to quit my job and do nothing but play this game. Either that or get my butt kicked every time. Not much fun there.
I've never played a game that doesnt have at least a simple single player campaign. If they wanted to be different then they should have printed that on the box. [No Single Player Campaign] It is assumed that these type games have a single player compaign of some sort.
The reason for a single player story line is just that... The story... I feel like i have been stolen from... cheated... ripped off... it sucks cause I can't take it back and demand my money because its software. Also they said it would have a campaign with the last patch... but that didnt happen either.... More dishonesty...
The next time they put out some software, I don't see myself standing in line to let them take my money a second time...
I will just watch some movies, hahaha.
Man, I have no interest in some cheesy yet time consuming single player campaigns. Truth be told, it would cost more than the little goods a single player campaign would bring to the game.
Is this not true? If it is why did the original author make this thread?
Not saying against it, but please research before you make threads. Like any new game engine, you need to make sure the engine works correctly before you can make a great game. I mean look at Starcaft 2. They are releasing it in 3 different games. You can still play online, with any race, but only 1 Campaign has been almost fully completed so far.
Though again, back to my main point
If this is true why was this thread even made? If you want to talk about how they should make a campaign for this game, that is an entire different story/thread.
I do not support this petion, as the devs already said they plan to include a campaign in the next game/sequal.
Have you considered that the OP might not have known?
I'll tell you what im for, Im for more story, I don't give a hoot how i get it, i just wan't it. Ill admit, I would like to see a campaign, and i don't think it flop like it does in other 4X games, particularly because this is not like other 4X games, but thats beside the point.
HOWEVER. There are other things that i think should be solved first. For instance, i hate the diplomacy setup of this game, that needs fixing. The research is to much like your run of the mill RTS for my liking, and the whole point of that small rant was to show that other things need taken care of first.
Perhapst the best way to handle this would be to do some small web books to flesh out a story line. make a map, some characters, a plot (already done it seems like) and off you go, theres a story. Point is, I am an advocate of games as art, and any game that is this good needs a good story to go with it. It doesn't need to be any thing like campaigns we've seen before, im rather scertain it won't be.
Picture this, The campaign starts in a small system, and as things progress, we work our way seemlessy out of that system, with a few cutscenes telling us what is going on. The other thing is that it could take the form of a loose campaign. Ill give an example. Admiral whos-his-face needs us to protect a system for so long, and that is the pbjective. in any other game, you would build a big defence, but lets say you aren't that kind of person. Lets say you go to the enemy and destroy their forward base. OOpla, mission complete. The devs could further this by making a branching storyline, the different paths to victory result in different plotlines.
Sorry for the long winded ness of that post, i look forward to a response.
I, personally, would like to know what is chasing the Vasari, where the Advent was, and exactly who the TEC is. They have a great intro and vague backstory, now I want the details. AYE. Thank goodness they're coming out with a campaign.
As far as I'm concerned, with no campaign I may as well have just stuck to the demo. I made an ass of myself by assuming such a game would have a campaign for each race.
Call me an old fart, but the lack of campaings is a big enough dissapointment that Sins, despite its spectacular graphics, will probably remain uninstalled.
Based on the info released so far here's a theory. Basicly, if all 3 mini-expansions combined are released as the full expansion later on, it's probable that one of them has the campaign. Could that be why their being tight lipped about the 3rd one?
I think it would be cool to have a campain with cut-sceanes and what not but I think it would be hard to do with this game.
Maybe they could take a leaf from Supcom? It's another game with massive scale, but I think they handled it's campaign rather well.I also liked that as you completed objectives, your area of operations expanded until your map was huge.
Absolutely.
I have a feeling that a truely awesome single player mode for Sins of a Solar Empire would catapult it into the realm of StarCraft and would in all likelihood make it even greater than StarCraft was, perhaps making it an earlier competitor for Star Craft 2.
Seriously, Sins' multiplayer is so awesome; all it lacks is an epic first person storyline. The intro video talking about the three races and everything is such a teaser too, because it sets up such an epic background plot that you just want to dive right into a first person story. If the first person story could be like StarTrek Armada, where you got to play a first person story from each of the different races, it would be even more epic.
I'd rather they told stories using scenarios rather then a campaign. I prefer to think of each new game of sins I play as another chapter of a story. Campaigns are a tricky thing, you either hit the nail on the head or you fail. I'm of the opinion that the 3rd expansion will have a bit of a campaign, probably introducing the race stalking the Vasari.
I would like a campaign but it has to be good rather than rushed.
So videos to help tell the story parts in it like the introduction video when u load up sins.
Campaigns like in Company of heros, Dawn of War and Comand and Conquer games are good examples of games which have good campaigns.
FINALLY!
I myself are really looking forward to the campaign to add a bit of taste to the currently "dull" flavor. I hardly know anything about any of the races except for what they stated in the introduction movie.
A campaign should be the #1 project right now. Playing solo gets old, and playing online with random people is always just a lame ass spam rush, and not really fun at all. I only play with people I know. All of you that are critical of the campaign idea, something is wrong with you. If you spend some time reading reviews of SINS, the lack of a solo story mode is the #1 complaint out there, and would do the most towards increasing sales of the game. Like mentioned before, 90% of all rts games out there have some sort of single player story mode, the best ( and most successfull) rts games have the balence of a fully functioning game environment, player created content, a STORY mode, and a good online mode.
For all of you that love nothing more than rushing people to death online, consider this: Story mode will sell more games, and bring in more victems to the online game for you to take advantage of.
