It did.  It got up to 101.9, which was high enough for me to reluctantly admit that I ought to go in. 

So I did.  And I have a kidney infection.  I'm on phenazopyridine so's it won't feel like I'm peeing acid, 400mgs of Tequin once a day for a week to kill off the bacteria in my urethra, bladder, ureters and right kidney, and he also gave me motrin for the pain, which I laughed at and told him he should keep.  I'm on so many meds that motrin has zero effect on me.  But, he said I should have it, so I'll take it.  After all, he's the dcotor, not I.

Yeah, he said if I'd have waited until Tuesday I'd have bought myself a stay at the hospital.  He let me off lightly and sent me home.

Thanks, Dev.  I should have emailed you first....I just forget that you're a doctor sometimes (and a urologist to boot!).  You're a friend to me, not a physician.  I kind of like that, to be honest.

So did mine. The last time I had one of these I was pregnant with Shea and spent a week in the hospital.  I was in the ICU for a day and half because they couldn't get my fever down.  They put me in this weird space-age looking silver blanket thing to try and cool me off.  It was very surreal.

I've had four in my whole life, and two have turned into kidney infections.  You know what the main cause of UTI's in chicks is, don't you?  Nookie.  That's what caused mine.  Two days ater Dave came home, I started to have pain when I peed.  I dunno if you know this, but peeing after you have sex helps flush the bacteria that cause these out of your urethra.  I usually do that, but I was too drunk to get out of bed the first 2 nights he came home....and bingo, I've got an infection!

Not really, no.  One a day, sometimes none a day and other times two.  Never more than three, and that's rare.  Since I noticed the UTI starting I've deliberately drank more water and juice and less soda and coffee.

Yeah, and I detest taking that stuff.  It makes me sleepy and cranky, and I'd rather get the antibiotics switched than take that crap.

Nope, they gave me pills. One a day for 7 days.

Well, he said that I have chronic neuropathy from nerve damage, and that it's probably permanent.  He started me on gabapentin (which is supposed to be good for nerve pain), upped the elavil I was taking to 100mgs at night (it works as a catalyst for pain meds), told me to change my fentanyl patch every 48 hours instead of 72, and gave me 90 percocet per month for breakthrough pain and for when I want to go work out and be active.

I have to go back once a month until we get to a maintenance dose of all the meds, then it's every three months.  If we can't find a med that works, then there are invasive procedures that put implants and pumps in, but those are a last resort.  He said that the last thing he's worried about is my being dependent on meds; it's better to take them, be active, pain free and happy than NOT take them and be miserable enough to be suicidal.

I'm happy.  He understands chronic pain, and so do his staff.  That comforts me.

I've had a few kidney infections- not fun at all.  If you are not allergic to penicillin, they can give you a shot of it and get the infection cleared up quicker (that's what I have had done in the past).  I am allergic to sulfa drugs, so I don't tolerate a lot of the antibiotics that they use.
