I really like the potential of the Tactical interface however do not like the way in which speed and movement are currently implemented. On reflection I would prefer a system similar to the old Champions RPG where Speed is used to determine which unit has the initiative. Units would have generally Two actions they could perform during their "turn".
- Half Move (One Action Point)
- Combat (One Action Point)
- Fortify (One Action Point)
- Full Move (Two Action Points)
A unit with a movement value of 4 would actually be able to get all 4 points of movement on a tactical map, Units with 3 points of movement would only get 1 square on a 1/2 move (rounded down) if they wanted to use their additional action.
With Speed only having to do with determining each units Initiative, it eliminates player turns and instead each player goes back and forth with their units based on where each sits in the initiative stack. This eliminates the issue now where one side can decimate the other with archery/ranged fire before the other player has an opportunity to respond.
This should also give more significance to the Movement and Speed stats of Heroes and Units.
