That's absurd. Is there at least a way to get rid of dead spouses? All four of my daughters were slain in a single battle and my husband died. Is that the end of my dynasty for the rest of the game?

That seems to be the case.

From what I have seen, at most you get four children (you will get them eventually, at which point the dead of the spouse wouldn't matter so much). No replacements for any of them. If diplomacy was on, we would get to marry them off and get more offspring from them but... well, diplomacy isn't on.

Not sure if Stardock will tweak the system more or not but no matter how much I like Dynasty (which I do), it's not too random or too open. Apparently.

So, is this inability to remarry by design, or will it eventually be changed?

It really is pretty absurd that you can't have a second marriage, even if you've been widowed for a hundred years.

Game Victory (conquest) seems to be based on last leader left, not cities, I won my first game when the leader of the another kingdom died when attacking one of my cities! That other kingdom had more bigger cities.

I do agree, if your spouse dies then you should be able to re-marry.

Hopefully they gonna "upgrade" the dynasty system. Just a couple of ideas:

- Sovs should be able to divorce.

- The stats of the generated children should be a bit more random.

- The "special traits" [gained @ birth] should be more random as well. While we are at it, more special traits should be added later on. The more, the better.

Even if 'balance' requires a kludge like limiting sovereigns to four offspring no matter how long a game runs, it is ludicrous to have eligible widows and widowers running kingdoms and empires.

Hopefully, it's just a matter of the diplomacy code not being in the build and sovereigns who pass their reproductive limit and lose their spouse can still remarry as part of a diplomatic deal.

I had made some of the observations mentioned (once I was directed as to how to speak to them ). But dismissed this as a work in progress. I sure hope this is not the final product for the dynasty system it adds so much depth and has so much potential.

I would also like to see the genetic traits of the face passed on from child to child, a la Crusader Kings.

I would like my kids to have a little more variety. Maybe the option to school them to become merchants or scholars? In any case, I have a hard time justifying risking them in battle with their 5-7 hitpoints.

I sent my spouse on a suicide mission but I convinced her she could take on that peskey Bone Ogre that set up shop right outside my city. All this so I could get a new hottie merchant that caught my eye but alas I couldnt remarry and now I'm all alone with 3 kids and an Ogre neighbhor

low HP aside, my children always seem to have abysmal stats that reduce armor/weapons you give them to nothing anyway. .2 modifier for weapons and armor. I assume the system is far from finalized and is just there barebones atm.

One would hope. I'd like to put those brats through school and university. Maybe they can do something useful like making me piles of gold.

It was surprisingly easy (use the diplomacy menu, click on some empty ground and click on the shaking hands at the bottom of the screen) to begin a heavily inbred royal family in the game.

I agree. This was one of the strongest features (IMO) included in the game Europa 1400. It would be great to build functioning dynasties and have your descendants take up your legacy as the game progresses. Of course, the ability to turn off this feature would be nice too for those who wish to play an entire game with the same sovereign.

I do hope with the kids, we get schooling/fostering options that would allow them to grow in to there own unique abilities (read train/level up). even if this does not make release think of the expansion "Elemental Dynasties: the next Generations!" Oh and Brad feel free to take the title... heh heh
