Me and you both man, tis a shame that they gonna end it at season 5, bloody Sci-Fi, always ending good shows. Gotta say, cant wait for the next episode, i think they going to reveal who they are, from the way it looks, its like something that looks like an Asgard!

Yeah, which is why I hope they extend the 'weird aliens' plot to the end of the series, that would mean there's a good chance they would make it into the DVD movies.

Because let's face it, they already wore out the fun from the Wraith For me, it was worn out once Michael became the main bad guy.

I thought the Asgard were all gone!

It's also a shame the Atlantis writers pretty much defeated them as quickly as they introduced them. They finally came up with a great plot hook in the first episode, and in the second promptly destroyed 2 of their 3 ships (someone please tell me how a scrap heap of a ship that can barely fly managed to destroy 2 Asgard ships given their level of technology..) and their main base of operations.

It had so much potential. Sure they still made off with the key to the device, but they're no longer in much of a position to be a major part of the story.

I'm kinda split about this episode. the idea of reclusive, bad asgard is actually quite intriguing and they showed a few nice moves and techs in the first part. but when they show us a race that had a good part before and was fairly proficient at things, they just cannot let them do such horrible mistakes and behave like the classic idiot villains.

however, I don't really believe that ice world was their main base of operations. for that its way too small. for a culture to survive 10.000 years it must take a few more than just a handful of individuals, even with clones. and the technological issue. well, strange, since they showed some advanced stuff like the intraatmospheric jump, the shield penetration, the makeships elevator. but then those weak ships. on the other hand the ships did appear fairly small. I mean a puddle jumper also isnt exactly a match for a wraith cruiser (is it?) even though it has vastly more advanced technology. that, and lets not forget: these guys do not have the 10.000 years of scientific advancement that the main asgard had. not at the same level, not with the numbers and resources they had. as such, it would be pointless to argue why they are not as strong as the asgard were at their hight.

in sum, a few interesting ideas thrown in, would like to see them again in the future with another plan to rebuild their strength. but they should not do those stupid things like leave the prisoners alone, disregard emergency commands, limitations to their battle armour, etc. etc. cold, efficient, ruthless, but intelligent in doing so please, these are not backwater idiots just with guns.

btw, one leads to wonder: when the ancients first activated the device and saw their side effects, why didnt they just prohibit gate travel. were there so many other species then that used them? couldnt they just shut them down? I mean hey, use the device and let the wraith who discovered the effects rot for as long as it takes them to die through hunger and be done with the issue. uncomfortable, but much less than death and defeat.

yea but we cant assume that these asgard didnt, while pushing their evolution problem behind them, didnt also build great ships like our asgard did. dont forget these asgard had all that time while the ancients and the wraith fought it out so we dont know what they built or how many worlds they may have civilizations on.

If you had listened to what the asgard said you would know that they cannot build more ships this is what he said:

Asgard: We lost our intergalactic ships in the first battle and we did not have the resources to build more

Well, the asgard that spoke with Daniel was very forthright about their problems, and their reasoning about the Alteran Device: Their survival matters and nobody else's does. That sets the tone for further encounters.
