Unofficial beta FAQ

If you think you got something that would fit in this unofficial FAQ, then start with a question and then the answer. Or someone else can answer it for you

1. General

Q: When will the beta start?
A: It will begin the 27th of march

Q: How do i get in the beta?
A: You will have to pre-order it, you can do so here https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store/

Q: How long will the beta submissions be open?
A: It will be open for about 1 week after the beta 1 starts. If you miss beta 1, you'll get another chance when beta 2 launches in a few months.

Q: How will I get the beta?
A: You will be able to to download it with the Stardock Central program and can be found here https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp and the key will be send to you by email

Q: Is there a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)?
A: No! You are free to post screenshots, commentary, and even make in-game videos

2. Tech

Q: Whats the requirement to play in the beta?
A: Minimum specs (in general) will be: 1.8 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM in Vista), and a 128 MB DirectX 9 3D video card

Q: If I pre order this game, will I be able to download the beta1 on another PC with High Speed, and then bring it home and install it on my PC?
A: With most products downloaded via Stardock Central, you can archive them, burn them, install them on an offline machine, then make a trip to the net machine and back to activate. I can't say for certain if that will be the exact case with sins, but it's a good probability. Note you do need to be able to install SDC on the net connected machine in order to do this

Q: What is the Shipping cost?
A: $5 to the US and $10 international. NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR WHEN THE GAME IS RELEASED, IN AUGUST 2007 No beta disc's will be shipping.

Q: What happens to my money when i pre-order?
A: The money will be stored and locked on your bank account until the beta is released

Q: Can I get the game in another language then english?
A: Stardock will only be selling the final version in English. Other language versions (French, Spanish, German, Italian and Dutch) may be made available after release via Stardock Central. This is all still pretty undetermined, however.

Q: How do i cancel my pre-order?
A: You can do that by emailling sales@stardock.com

3. Ingame knowledge

Q: What will I be able to do in the Beta?
A: The beta will allow you to play Skirmish only. Multiplayer will come in beta 2, that will launches in a few months.

Q: Will there be a demo as well?
A: Not for a while, if at all.

Q: Will I be able to play all sides?
A: For beta 1 players will only be able to play as, and against, the Trader Emergency Coalition. The other races will be made available as the beta progresses.

Anways I will add a question.

Q: How will the multiplayer play be handeled?
A: Since our new slave drivers...er... publishers dont like mulitplayer we arent sure if it will be included in the beta.

(hope I dont get banned for that one)

It will be open for about 1 week after the beta 1 starts. If you miss beta 1, you'll get another chance when beta 2 launches in a few months.

You should specify that it's the shipping cost for the full, final game. We won't be shipping beta discs out.

Not in beta 1. For beta 1 players will only be able to play as, and against, the Trader Emergency Coalition. The other races will be made available as the beta progresses. We'd like to get some structured feedback on how each race plays, so doing it one-at-a-time will be a lot easier than a free-for-all right out of the gate.

well... makes sense, but I think I'm gonna pout about it anyway

so when the other races come out, will you lock down the TEC?
and will the beta remain on our computer when beta 1 is over, or will there be some sort of uninstall when we go for beta 2.

Rather than giving those figures in euros, it might be a better idea to give them in dollars since that's what they are--shipping for direct-ordered boxes has historically been $5 in the US, and $10 international.
