Depending on what you are trying to add to the ships you can easily add items from the editors included in the TA version. The editors are easy to use and allow you to make loads of different types of mods for your ships. If you are looking to do something other than this please let us know a few more specifics to enable us to better assist you :)

I always use them as soon as i can get my greedy little hands on them as they give a good early boost to your populating increase, and as everyone knows its the population that gain you your much needed BC's :)
