I didn't have comprehensive, so insurance won't cover any of it. The car wasn't worth too much anyway, so I'm not too worried about it.

This past Thursday, a huge windstorm ripped through the pacific northwest, leaving hundreds of thousands without power . I know I didn't get the worst of it, but I did get hit pretty bad: a huge tree landed on my c
I stumbled across a feature of Gmail that I found too ridiculous to keep to myself: When looking at the Spam email folder in Gmail, Google Adsense displays ads related to actual spam. Some of my ads included Spam Quiche, Ginger Spam Salad, and Spam Breakfast Burritos.
Mumblefratz, have you built the Mind Control Center in this game?
I'll be looking forward to your RTS editorials. Despite being a Command & Conquer fan growing up, I give props to Warcraft 3 as having the best single player campaign I have played in an RTS.
Moosetek, nice link on the XML Marker program, it seems pretty handy.
I like to build military starbases in enemy star systems early on, it allows you to clean their clock with a bunch of small ships even if their technology is more advanced then yours.
So what exactly are "empires"? Is it worth joining one?
In my current game I'm playing the Drengin on a gigantic galaxy, with abundant planets. Difficulty is set to challenging with randomized intelligence turned on. The Altarians were at war with the Yor, and I noticed they had a massive number of undefended planets on my borders. So I spent some turns churning out transports with 31 speed, lined them up on the borders, and then struck: I captured 21 planets in a single turn. The next turn I mopped up and captured 4 more planets. I
How do you set rally points?
I agree. In particular I think that any planets which you have not yet explored should be revealed. I'm not so sure about continuing to pay for it though.
Military starbases can be greatly helpful if you use them right. In my current game I have been using fleets of Tiny ships with 1 attack point, and I build military starbases next to enemy planets before invading. After upgrading my military starbases I get roughly a +10 attack per ship. In a fleet of 8 tiny ships, that's suddenly a +80 attack! What I'm saying is that military starbases are useful if you use large fleets of tiny ships, but not that useful if you just use bigger
Thanks for explaining that kryo, I was unaware. Maybe for 1.3 add a tooltip into the starbase upgrade screen that explains this?
I don't know if this bug is specific to 1.3 beta 2a, but Defense Assist bonuses from military starbases do not work. Attack Assist and Speed bonuses still do work however.
Is there a way to change the color of your race during a game? I set my color to black and now I can't see my cultural borders or my stats on a graph.
I almost completely agree with londo_molari, except for one thing. I think that the amount of time since the game's release would hurt the feasibility of putting in multiplayer. People who already own the game bought it with the knowledge that it does not have multiplayer, and these people accept that fact. Many people that didn't buy the game chose not to buy it because of the lack of multiplayer (I know several people who fit this description). Putting multiplayer in an expansion woul
I have been developing a Java application for use on cell phones. Today I attempted to install my program onto a cell phone (a Motorola RAZR). I plugged the phone in to my computer, but no drivers were found for it. I searched on the internet for drivers, found nothing useful on Motorola's website, and eventually had to settle for a link I found on a forum. T
Opera version 9 has IRC built into an already good web browser.
I spent too long writing this to just let it sink into oblivion. BUMP!
I attest that the following story is true in its entirety, except the names of people have been changed to protect identities (and hopefully to provide a few cheap laughs). First, a little background: this summer for work I am traveling, teaching workshops for junior high and high school students. Sunday I was scheduled to travel across state (I live i
terpfan1980: HDTV certainly does have higher quality than SDTV. My argument is that the improvement is only slightly better, and not worth paying much money for. If I need to shell out yet another $400 to get the picture adjusted for best quality, I still don't see any way that the improvement would justify the price. For entertainment shows... well honestly, I care very little about "more detail in the faces of the guests". I hav
I agree that it takes faith to believe in evolution. I disagree that it could be classified as a religion. I looked up a definition of "religion" on dictionary.com, and this is the most relevant one that I found: "A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion." Evolution in itself is not a cause or principle that people actively pursue; it is simply a theory that takes a certain amount of f
Haha, that one was pretty good.
Early this year we bought an HDTV receiver for my house at about $200. It was the biggest waste of money we have spent on household equipment. Judging by the hype surrounding HDTV, you would expect that switching from standard broadcast to HD would bring a noticeable difference in quality that somehow makes the entire television experience better. This
