Hi! And my money problems are huge, I never seem to have any. Some advice: 1 don't rush-buy everything. Just the first factory on few early planets and (maybe) first colonizer. The starting money you get is for bridging the "hole" your first colonies will make. Just buying a colonizer will take away 1000 BC - that's enough for 1 colony runn

Hi! Social Production, represented by hammers, is spent on projects. If you have no projects queued, the number above the hammers will be in parenthesis I don't remember seing it in parenthesis, only the military production. Manual is wrong on those technical details in so many places it's hardly a valid reference. Better check with the ga

Hi! My guess is it’s best to use very specialized colony’s with production planets with nothing but factories (and a space port) with the odd entertainment network thrown in for good measure. I wouldn't recommend doing that, or you'll face big money waste on social production queue on planet with factories. Currently unused social production is

Hi! Playing campaign with 1.0D 008 (or sth. similar, latest patch anyway). After I reloaded saved game I noticed that NOTHING IS PRODUCED/RESEARCHED, when i press Next turn. Only in the turn thereafter the production actually happens. Also, I got strange results from battles. I've been attacking a Yor planet with several colony ships in orbit. After each battle my flet had MORE movement points. It ended with 24, the last one battle giving about 6! I was also able to use all of t

Hi! A not so short list of wishes: Ship design window: - right click or DEL button removes selected component, - compact view on ship design: a component is displayed only once, but has a number in a corner that tells how many are there, - pressing done button, but design not saved should ask if I want to save it, and bring up a proper dialog to do that. Diplomacy window: - decration of war notice, - a prompt if I wish to ally , when AI wants that.<b

Hi! My story of installing GalCiv2 probably fits here the best. 1. With Stardock Central I downloaded GC2 with multimedia, movies and music by a comp on a very fast internet connection. No problems there. 2. Then I packed the app with Stardock Central. No problems again. 3. Put those 1.1GB of data on DVD and brought home. Installed a fresh copy of SDC on a computer, and ordered SDC to unarchieve application. Still no problems here, everything unpacked OK, <b

Hi! Nice presentation! IMO your initiall problems with Torians originated from the fact you spoked softly (pursued an alliance victory) without carrying a big stick (took out neighboring minor civ). Dominator class Battleship Attack: 42 (beam) Defense: 15 (shields) 1 (armor) Hull: 48hp. Why 15 shields+one armor? Why not 16 shiel

Hi! The AI players will do what's in their own interest. Many times I've been in PBEM games a "close to the top" player. In those games my biggest concern was usually how to bring down the top one player. Anything else would result in "game over - top player won". This threat alone was strong enough motivating factor for neighbours of our big "

Hi! Well, I don't really see the point of changing default battle tactics. I see a big one. In Stars! I've been many times in situation I could not match my opponents fleet, but I could try to destroy his bombers or freighters carrying invasion troops. OFC those kamikazi ships of mine all died, but if they did their job, my opponent lost the a

Hi! I have a question about defenses that are "square rooted". How the game handles remainder in sqrt formula? Like: my ship has point defense of 3, but is attacked with beam weapon. What it will roll for defense: int(sqrt(3))=1, sqrt(3)=1.732 or round(sqrt(3))=2? TIA. BR, Iztok

Hi! For those strategy-gamers who love micromanaging, however, Space Empires is probably their wet dream. I am a MM freak, but SE4 is waaaaay to much for me to be playable. In mid-game, when I get a tech level about each turn or two it is literarily impossible to keep pace with that. Redesigning ships, weapon platforms, satelites, fighters, min

Hi! It also allowed you to make deals when the AI was a little short of $ Heh, not in Altarian Prophecy on genius level. In my last game I offered one minor, that was about to fall (to my invading ships - was still not at war with them) ALL my tech from battleships to avatars, with ALL but soldiering upgrades - about 30 techs. They had 2600 bc,

Hi! When I played out that battle, my ship rolled some pretty awful attacks. I'm not sure if my ship would have withstood another round or not. Thanks for explanation! Seems you came pretty close to that 1 in 4 defeat. Some more questions regarding damage: - coud components on a ship be damaged / destroyed, thus making ship

Hi! Really nice work. But something I don't understand. When you put your best ship against their best ship, you have stated that you "won that battle only because you were the one who initiated combat and got first strike". However your ship was a good counterdesign to his: your 16 defenses in beam attack vs. his 27 beam attack, but your 21 missile attack against his sqrt(11 beam) + 1 missile + 1 mass = 5.32 defense. In my combat simulator your ship should win 3 of 4 battles. Even if dre

Hi! Not that most GC players used Terror Stars as system killers. We used them as mobile culture palaces. So they weren't Terror Stars, but rather, Pleasure Stars. Yeah, that was their use once or twice in games I played. And as a warship support (weapons +??, defenses +?, + ship movement... etc.) Was almost too easy to win once it started rolli

Hi! a terror star is the size of a moon. But it survives driving right up to the star and blowing it? Actually I never used one, nor 've seen it in action - 've always had enough ships and troops to take those planets and installations for myself. However I see the Terror Star as a catalyst. It starts the reaction, but it takes some time to prod

Hi! If there was most of the sun's mass left over, then all of Earth isn't necessarily dead. This is about the only thing I agree with you. See, when the Nova happens (and our Sun is still considered to be by about one third too small for it), sun's outer shell is blown away, with quite some percentage of the core. All that mass is very h

Hi! WTF? Genius!?!?!? dude you seriously need to write a strategy guide of something I did wrote some hints and short guides in GC1 forum and on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic. I play strategy games for almost all my life. I play multiplayer TBS games for 10 years, and I'm quite

Hi! Let me add a few words about multiplayer. I am a long-time strategy gamer, but my slow dial-up conection made me playing only PBEM games. Recently installed ADSL has just showed me I'm too old to compete in RTS games with kids that can click twice as fast as I can. So I remained at TBS, Stars! being the most played. Despite a Stars! game takes some months to finish by playing 5 turns per week, 15 min to 2 hours per turn, a game is usually over in less than 100 turns. In thos

Hi! I think your perspective on life is heavily influenced by where you are on the lifeline between birth and death. I'm sorry I even brought this up. I thought it could be done better, but either I'm not explaining my point of view properly, or I'm just totally wrong. IMO a very valid point of view <img src="smiles/Congrats.gif" border=0

Hi! I'm suggesting 64MB cards should be that low end point if it means lowering the graphics quality just to include 32MB cards. I'd just like to point out on the issue of laptop users being unable to play Civ4, because their sistems have a built-in 32MB non-upgradeable graphics card. Please don't repeat that with the GalCiv 2. To circumve
