Further to the above - I just won a game on crippling (dengrin domination scenario). The last 3 races all fell damn quick, it was just a race to zoom those fast troops ships across the map. Their fleets were pitiful despite (from capturing tech) I could see they had some of the very top shelf weapon and defence techs. I hope this is one of the first issues delt with in 1.2 beta. As for too easy, sometimes that AI design time does fall right. I have seen AI drea

I won a game the other day on masochist lvl by tech. I was so outclassed by all the other races it was the only way to win.
Couple of points: 1. What exactly determins military value for the graphs. Now I have read many contradictory things about this here, it is attack plus defence plus hp, it is just attack, just attcak plus defence or even just the number of ships. What is the truth now with 1.1? Is it effected by difficulty level?Getting a decent lvl in masochist is impossibleuntil you are just about to win it seems. 2. I was reading in the journals that AI only designs new ships once a
Clever idea but it would be nice to have a button in the options setup that clears all old designs.
My urrrr god knows how many games and I came across a random event stating that pirates were now attacking everywhere. This is not to be confused with the prison break event. Ohhhh I thought, send out scouts with sensors, defend everything with large fleets. But...no pirates. After the posts about killer pirate fleets I felt a bit cheated. Maybe someone else killed them.
But...one has to ask... "while the AI planets have tons of basically useless structures, where the hell do all those ships, research and military standing come from?" I suspect we are being cheated. In one masochist level game (1.1)at the end the drengies had a -500cr per turn credit balance and were "healthy" expanding empire. Ever tried running an empire on -500cr a turn?
To be honest I think all 3 alignments have things going for them and I have enjoyed playing all. (especially since good defences and nutrality learning centres works now)
I was once in a similar situation against a neutral. He was big but not that much bigger than me but his research suddenly jumped insanely high. A short way into the enevitable war I found out why, I took a planet off him which had about 8 neutrality learning centers on it and I think a tech capital. Suddenly the research roles were reversed. My guess is your "dengies" had a similar stroke of luck out side your view.
The situation is this... When you get a planet in risk of rebellion, you have 3-5 weeks to fix it or it's gone. The AI ones do not flip so quick this is due to the RR effect, as Roger Rabbit said "Only when it's funny!"
Well there must be a lotta bad luck about. Since 1.1 abundant yields about half as many planets and the quality goes down too. I kinda that after finishing a game on masochist yesterday that the late game was a whole lot less tiring to play with these settings
Phew! I finally won the game by tech victory and it did certainly seem a whole lot harder that with the betas. One odd thing was the drengin showed as having a minus 500cr per turn cash flow. No wonder they can buy all those ships.
I for one can see no difference when I get stellar cartography. There are several very rare random events that can improve a lot of planets. I have played countless games now and only seen it once but I have read here of others getting it.
what is the point on arming any planet defender? I am talking mid game here, yes I agree some firepower is needed at the start for several reasons. It is a waste of time and resources as if and when something comes calling it is likley to be a fleet of real nasty ships. Much better to put your hard earned into space going fleets to intercept the bad guys than wasting it on orbital fleets.
A good strategy is to buy an entertainment center on the homeworld turn 1 so that you get 100% approval Hey that's brilliant. Thanks
I just started a new game, and Earth has a +700% manufacturing bonus tile. Sweetness! Oddly enough that can be a liability in the early game as so much production costs a lotta cash with only a tiny population to pay for it.
I am currently playing on masochist level and, yes, it does seem a lot harder than in any of the betas. I have a huge military, been churning out killer ships like crazy for ages yet I still cant get any standing in the military graphs. Two things I find kinda annoying is how abundant became less well abundant in the setup and how all the starbase bonuses where shrunk.
in the latest patch getting 75% or 100% gives you bonuses
I once (ok twice) bulit the shrinker by buying it and I did not get the bonus.
yup sensor ship in the same square will do nicely. no need to ever waste space on a combat ship. You can fit tons of sensors on a cargo hull that will never fight
all i have to say is
well the BIG difference between gal civ 2 and civ 4 is....Catherine and Isabella. They are hot babes and if you are, urrr romantically challenged as I believe it is correct to say, that might make the difference.
In my last game in 1.1 beta 4 I had 2 yes 2 races surrender to me coz other people had kicked their asses. Since loading 1.1 it is only my ass that has been kicked
It is nice that every game you play random events change its flavour. I have played dozens of games and still I hear of events I have not seen yet and had others only once.
It is true ! A giant space goat has been spotted and is heading for Earth to eat it. We need to act and act soon to save the best of humanity from this terrible crisis. I suggest we build a colony ship and fill it with all the wise as....er I mean wise men who constantly moan about gal civ2 being buggy and accuse stardock of being muppets and shoot it off into deep space.
I just started a new game with the final 1.1 patch and was quite surprised to see the AIs being able to still madly colony rush . I only managed to get 6 new colonies and still got into financial problems even with some nice cash anomolies, whie all the others have between 11 and 19. How the hell are they getting all those colony ships and paying for everything?
