Not unreliable at all — if your system is set up to actually weight rankings based on near-neighbors in the notional space. A group of friends who heavily mutually high-rank end up essentially creating an isolated island off to the side of the main body once only a few outsiders down-rate a couple of the members. For a new user of the ranking system, they may get matched with a couple of the isolates a couple times but if they have consistently bad ratings of them as a result, a well-desi
I'd place N-Gun as the weakest of all 3 albeit the flashiest.
Care to explain why?

I'm not gonna argue 30+ deliverance engines isn't useful. But how much faster would you have won if it was 30+ novalith cannons?

I just completed a match where a buddy and I duked it out after defeating some AI on co-op. We just wanted to play around with some of the units in the game. I was using some Novalith Cannons on him, and he was using his Advent Deliverence Engines on me. It seems to me that the Deliverence Engine is not very useful. He fired 5-6 shots at one of my planets and it was still 60% allegiance. Is that supposed to survive? What makes this gun worth the time consuming tech path, expensive c

Totally agree with repeatable queues and reinforce points on fleets. Those two things would be incredibly nice. 1.03!

So after reading the manual and playing around with the game a little bit, I still haven't figured out part of the Black Market Screen. The part in question are the two options in the bottom left and right corners. This has something to do with me putting up excess amounts of metal and crystal, and setting some sort of price for them. Can anyone explain to me how this works exactly? Are my resources spent immediately, and then put into a reserve? What effect does setting the price h

Wearing down defenses is the solution to having individual weapons fire at separate targets. It used to be, one ship fired all its guns at the other, one offense roll vs one defense roll. Now since each gun can fire at a different target, it has to 'wear' it down during the round so later shots can actually damage the ship.

I'm curious to know how well this responds under a heavy CPU load. Like if I have a 3D application killing most of my processing speed on the clients, can this program still send and receive its keyboard and mouse commands nicely to the client computers? I work in a Virtual Reality lab where we have 3 seperate computers running a large projection screen. Right now I use a free program called Synergy to transfer my I/O, how does your program differ from this? (Thanks for any replies g

Two Points: 1: Critical hits are already in the game, if I roll crappy, and you roll really well, thats sort of a rare occurence, and I pay the price 2: Similiar to what SrGalen said above, handling defenses with 'every weapon fires' individually isn't hard. -First make the defense roll for all the target ships defense - and use that as defense value D -Now, fire each w

Just installed FireFox 1.5 and that fixed the formatting problem. There is still a minor issue I noticed, dealing with the images below your reply. Firefox crops the images for some reason - this doesn't affect the ability to read like the formatting did, but I felt it was worth mentioning Here is an image of what I'm talking about

I am running FireFox v1.07. Extensions running are Adblock and Filter Set G. I don't believe Adblock causes any problems, since I don't run that at home, and I get this same formatting error. Here is an image from this thread. Notice the 'medals' below your post not formatting correctly, and the 'font' and 'size' dropboxes from the reply field not landing in their correct docking locations. (edit for correct pic link) <img src="http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~riesbr/forum_e

Has anyone here had problems with Firefox not formatting the forums correctly? Essentially what I've noticed is that during the page loading the replies and images align correctly, and upon completion of the page load they shift, and aren't lined up correctly. Even the little 'font' drop down box on top of the reply box shifts up and out of its normal docking area - and if I select it, it moves back down - *almost* fixing the formatting problem, but the little medals and award images or whateve

TrueType fonts are textures. If your card can display textures, your card can do TrueType. The problem with the 5200 is that it has the functionality of the 5000 series but its slower than the Geforce4 Cards. It just wasn't ever a fast video card. And I would say the massive slow downs from the original poster are coming from the memory limitations on a gigantic map.

Cinematics are pre-rendered movies at a set resolution. So they had to pick an appropriate res to have the movies at so it could be useable across multiple types of machines. The game itself is using direct3d for its drawing, which is scalable to any resolution. So the playable game should look fine on any resolution (infact it will look better on higher), its just the videos that have to be stretched. I really don't see how big of a prob
