Too Many Betas

There have been four versions of the Beta in 8 days. I think this is too often. It is difficult to keep differences straight.

... they are fixing the problems as soon as we identify them, isn't that much better than letting us play with a game that crashed half the time, and none of the features work? I think a new beta release every other day is great, since it means they are dedicated to improving the game, and are really taking our input, making the game better and better all the time. Why bother keeping differences straight? just catalogue all problems each release, post em, and wait for the next update, and do it again.

Before I retired from programming (the OS development type) one of the biggest problems was in getting the test stopping kind of problem fixed and integrated into a build fast enough. We were getting to the point where a daily build was the norm. (Couldn't have our testers idle because the code wouldn't work.)

Cheers,

I tend to agree with Fuji but at the same time, it is important that the beta not be crashing. There were serious functionality problems with the earlier builds.

I'm thinking the testers should have a notepad detailing bugs and whatnot. Everytime a new version comes out, check off what's been fixed, make note of what hasn't. Report it here and continue the list. It shouldn't be difficult to keep straight what's working in what version.

UnionBuster: Yes, that's a good thing that I encourage all bug-reporters to follow. I've used that since the late alphas and even copied the URL of the threads where Ive bug-reported so I can put those to the top if they still excist.

Yeah if you want a update every few weeks or so that's called a patch and most of the time is for a final product just like everyone elses games.. LOL

I understand the desire to get things right. I guess I'd say that pure bug fix updates can come as frequent as you'd like.

New versions that are incompatible with previous saved games that add new features (and their associated bugs) should come out much more rarely -- say once a fortnight.

Just my opinon,

Frank

P.S. I guess I was upset becuase I was about 60 hours into a Beta 1-C gigantic galaxy game when Beta 1-D came and had the diplomacy bug and the incompatibility with previous version save games. I'm calmer now.
