Fear of the "Blank Days"

"So, what are you going to do with yourself all summer?"

I have come to dread this question.

Everyone seems to be asking it, and to be real honest, I don't have an answer. I am a school teacher, and although most folks would relish having two months off in the summer, I increasingly fear this season of uncertainty.

You see, busyness is a much needed distraction in my life. I don't particularly enjoy being still for extended periods of time, and the thought of having unlimited blank days ahead of me is quite terrifying. As I write this blog, I am quickly formulating a to-do list for the next 24 hours. I need structure, and having a wide open schedule causes me anxiety. Yes, I am aware of how disturbed this sounds considering that "normal" people would absolutely love the chance to do nothing. But, I guess I'm not normal.

This blog really has no point, so I will go now. If you have any suggestions or thoughts, please feel free to share.

P.S. I've been watching the Star Wars Episodes. They provide a good brain-numbing experience. "

Oh man! No WAY I can relate! I would LOVE-LOVE-LOVE to have two months of "Blank days"!!!!!

I'll quote my dad on this one. After a lifetime of putting his fingerprints on satelites, spy planes, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile systems and who knows how many data link computer systems, he hung it all up and retired. When he left the plant for the last time, his fellow electronic engineers (and other co-workers) were sure that he would hate retirement and come running back, desperate to relieve the bordom!

7 years later, he still says, "If you can't have fun without a job, that's your fault!"

My hope to you is that you can enjoy your summer as much as he enjoys retirement. (you'll have to try to keep up with him though, he'll turn 70 next year and he recently bought another trail bike!) ;~D

Don't dread the question of what you are going to do for the summer. Tell them a whole world of possibilities are open to you (which is true) and you haven't decided yet. "Blank days"? Hardly! They are just days you haven't lived yet. I'll hold you to that new slogan of yours. And I agree with Trin: Star Wars? Hopefully they were the originals. You want to kill some time I've got some painting...
