Define Impact

I witnessed something tonight that left my spirit feeling a bit uneasy.

My church held a revival meeting called Team Impact, in which a group of body builders preformed astonishing feats of strength.

Apparently, these herculean accomplishments were designed to draw people to Jesus.

The connection between annihilating a stack of flaming bricks and the saving grace of Christ seemed ambiguous.

All the way home in my car, I questioned the validity of such a performance. I asked God what he thought of the show.

No response.

Is this what Christianity has become?

I think Christianity has become more showbiz than anything else. All the tv shows, the concerts, the magazines... It's a good way to reach people but really it's all about the money... They entertain people and get money for it, that's what chritianity seems to be right now. Crazy isnt it?

What I witnessed seemed crazy to me. Of coure, no one assigned me the job of judge or jury, so I don't want to be too critical. Perhaps these guys were geniune, but this form of worship is quesionable.

I agree with u. Here in Georgia we have this group called the Power Team and they do the same thing as Team Impact. I saw them once, and I didnt get it. I dont see how breaking 15 flaming bricks with your head makes people wanna come to church, or accept God. I understand that they give all the glory to God for bein able to do that, but still it doesnt make much sense. God doesnt need to be present for you to bust down walls. I dont think that this is even a touch of what christianity is. Its so much more, to me this is just someones idea about how to reach people. I dont agree, and I dont think its effective, but hey...each to his own.

Changing my tune:

The same group of men came to my elementary school today to do an assembly. I gained a totally different perspective. They truly do have a gift. Their preformance can keep an entire gym full of 3rd through 6th graders silent. That my friend, is a miracle. They do have an impact, it just happens to be on the younger generation. I can appreciate what they do, and I apologize for being such a critic! God can use whom ever He chooses!

We are taught to use our talents to glorify God. I guess these body builders feel that these are their talents and they are trying to use them to give something back.

Not everyone plays an instrument, knows how to heal people or even can yell, "CAN I GET A WITNESS" loud enough to call it a "talent". :~D
