If we did a MOM2 it would be in conjunction with Atari who currently owns the rights.
But doing such a game will be quite expensive. More expensive than a GalCiv type game. So it's not known how many people would buy the game once it came out and so there's an element of risk involved. We would want to get at least 5k pre-orders.

I, too, would be worried about Atari's involvement. Stardock has been a lone beacon of sanity in a messy, we-publish-screwed-up-games-then-don't-allow-developers-to-patch universe.
I think 5K in preorders for MoM2 would be easily feasible. Admittedly, I'm not familiar with the sorts of numbers that roll in for pre-orders, but the degree of fanaticism created by MoM has rarely been matched. I know a number who still play the old one. There are probably old strategy gamers rolling around in pleasure without even knowing why.
Although, I have to put in the other side of the spin, in that there really is the spiritual heir to MoM out there (Age of Wonders from Gathering), and while getting a lot of good criticial consideration, doens't have that much popularity. Perhaps the time for us has passed by.
Then again, that's a point of spin for all the frustrated strategy gamers out there. I imagine that beyond the cultists, if there was press to the extent of "this is the renewal of good, old fashion strategy games and the call for all who love them to retake the industry from all those MMORPG/FPS kids."
