Post-Invasion Population Growth

The times of war are upon us, my mighty fleet traverses the featureless void, we then engage the foul enemy on his own turf and liberate the planet - hurrah, give the schools a days holiday.

OK so the survivors from my combat transports then occupy the planet, then next month my population has grown by as much 10% - eh??? The only way this could happen was if my army is almost entirely female and all in varying stages of pregnancy. Call me sentimental, but I don't think that near-term front-line fighters is consistant with my good alignment.

It could (and probably will) be said that the increase in population is due to settlers and camp followers trailing behind the fleet. This is not likely as it would involve numbers of civilian craft navigating through a hostile war-zone.
If the population is just tax payers any new born wouldn't need to be registered until they were about 18, so for accuracy full speed population growth should be inhibited for about 200 months which in a game situation is plainly not on.

I'm not sure of the best way to address this or even if it is worth the bother of doing anything about it.
One possible solution would be to slow down growth by say 95% in the first month of occupation increasing by 5% each month until either peace breaks out normal growth is reached.

Look like you have only killed tax payer. So aliens that were hiding from the previous governement are going back :) .

Ok, I am joking. What is your empire pop growth bonus? since with 100% morale, you have a growth of 6%, if your empire growth bonus is +80%, this would explain the +10% on the population.

your joke is fairly true to the mark. The population number IS the number of tax payers, not the actual population. Read the enclopedia entries on this.

In reality thouhg the game is trying to be fun not realistic. Hence why every tax payer acts as a soldier and no garrisons are required.

It was actually about 120%, which might explain my exponential population growth

until either peace breaks out normal growth is reached.

Should have read
until either peace breaks out or normal growth is reached

The same applies to when I was doing a little soul polishing; settle a cruddy PQ<13 take the good option, transport everybody off and disband the colony, only once I forgot to disband it and left it empty. A month or two later 9 million people had appeared from nowhere - parthenogenesis? :)

The galactic civ populaton expands so fast it makes you wonder if it's rodents or people paying the taxes.

They seem to be inconsistent on this one.

Ah but in making the game more realistic you also make it more interesting.
