Catching Neopetitus

It was amazing. It was strange. It was fun and it was my personal little secret. No one knew it. No one dared to know it.
I played Neopets.
What was first a small community of players on a small set of servers has now quickly become a global experience with a full time staff. You have a pet. Buy it books! Train it to fight! Buy cool foods for it! Play games, build a house with your Neopoints, the Neopets currency. Collect trading cards, play the lottery, buy scratch tickets, collect rare items!
Neopets is a complete little world, with it's own stockmarket, it's own shops and homes, markets and exotic vacation spots all just a click away. It's completely free, with only a bit of minimal advertising involved. And it's so very very addictive.
I used to play constantly. I would be on Neopets 10-15 hours a week, constantly buying and selling items, playing games, and generally making friends, making Neopoints, and having a darn good time.
I bring this up because some of the patrons of the library play Neopets constantly on the library computers because it is pretty graphics intensive. They love it. They spend tons of time talking about it. I talk with them about it. It's almost a cult appeal, except it's games and fun are completely harmless, and oh yeah, no animal slaughter or drinking "magic Kool-Aide". Know the kids down the street with the Hello Kitty obsession? That guy that collects all those comic books? Hah. They don't got nothing on the Neopets crowd. It's like a disease!
Ah, and for the addicted, I have a level 14 Disco painted Kau. His name is GetoMoo!
Check out Neopets. Maybe you might get addicted
