How do you use a terror star?

I built a starbase, then applied all the upgrades to make it into a terror star. But I can't find a way to use it (i.e., blow up a planet or star)! Am I missing a tech? Is there a secret button? How do you fire at a star?

Just attack the star system with the Terror Star as if it were an ordinary ship. Fwoosh, no more star system.

Some things to keep in mind with Terror Stars.

1) You cannot attack regular ships with them.
2) You might want to beef it up with defense mondules. Otherwise, it'll be every bit as vulnerable as a normal starbase with no defense modules
3) Fortunately all is not bleak, by attacking the planet, any ships garrisoned on the planet will also be destroyed.
4) If you fortify a terrorstar with +cultural modules, the mere presence of it could tip planets into your empire. Bring more than one, and things get ugly for the otherside
5) Since Terror Stars are slow slow (and hence vulnerable), you might want to keep a couple good ships near by as an escort or perimeter defense,, if you will.
6) Sorry..forgot this one. There is no way to blow up an individual planet. But as T mentioned in reply #1, to take out a star just move the TS into the planet as if you're attacking it like a starship.
Hope this helps

Well... problem is that right-clicking the star doesn't do anything. It ignores the command. (I'm running 1.03, haven't updated to 1.04 yet).

Is there another tech dependency beyond the ability to build them?

Bug? Save game glitch?
(thanks for your responses, though!)

If you have a way of linking or sending a saved game, I'd be curious to take a look at it...although the Stardock guys would be a better judge of what's going on then I am.

If  I remember right there's code in there to only allow enemy stars to be fired upon, so any un-inhabited stars won't be available for target practice.  ;)  I forget why we did that, but I'm pretty sure there was a reason behind keeping un-inhabited stars safe :notsure:  (we really need to write down our thought process on some of these issues for later examination).

That was it... I was trying to "test fire" on a white dwarf. When I went after the Torians it worked like a charm.

Thanks again for your help.

hi, I finaly got myself into a position where I could build a terror star, yeay! Strangely though the base station i was upgrading (it was already fully upgraded with every module for defence, millitary, cultural, mining etc etc) became invissible when I started construction on it. I could still click on it (although I had to guess where it was) and move it about (being carful not to lose it). Anyway is it supposed to do that? . . . I didn't research cloaking at any stage and I,m running with the most recent patch (I think/ how do I check that) . . . thanks.

Awsome Game though! :)

No it shouldn't do that. The starbase graphic does change, but to something looking like the foundations of your terrorstar. You could've ran into a corrupted texture problem. Save and reload and you should be okay.

I had problems like this (starbases icons disapearing after they reach some size) befor applying my first patch (1.3) , reloading game helped me then , after that patch everithings looks OK now.

Thanks for the advice, you guys were right . . . saving and then reloading fixed it! This is a great game but after running it for more than a few hours some of the graphics (anti-matter drones, ships etc etc) seem to disapear until you save and restart.

I'm running OS Windows 2k, 2GHz CPU, mofo computer 1Ghz DDRam etc, and this happens on a medium map . . ?

One question though . . . I downloaded and ran a patch update (the one you get in the bonus pack), is this the latest one (i.e. 1.4) or whatever, thanks again.

If you did the 1.04 standalone, then yes you have the latest patch. (it sounds like you downloaded a standalone patch at least)
