Global poll slams Bush leadership

More than half of people surveyed in a BBC World Service poll say the re-election of US President George W Bush has made the world more dangerous.

Only three countries - India, Poland and the Philippines - out of 21 polled believed the world was now safer.

The survey found that 47% now viewed US influence in the world as largely negative and such unfavourable feelings extended towards Americans as a whole.

None of the countries polled supported contributing their troops to Iraq.

"Negative feelings about Bush are high and are generalising to the American people who re-elected him."

On average across all countries, 58% of people - and 16 out of 21 countries polled - said they believed Mr Bush's re-election to the White House made the world more dangerous.

POLL's!!! We help everyone in this WORLD when they are in NEED. And polls state they don't like us. Who assists us the (USA) when we have problems? The help really came fast when FLA. had problems last year. $350 million is said to be not enough in the last month,with more to come from the citizens of this GREAT country.I may be mixed up,but I just don't understand.

...yes thats an arrogant statement and why other countries probably hate us (i was kinda joking) ..nobody likes to pay attention to the positive the United States has done for the world. As for Bush, I voted for him, i think considering all that the nation has gone through he did a good job in holding it together and going to whip up on those who need it, and he's not perfect but i think everyone should cut some slack and give a little respect for his place in office at least I didn't really care for Kerry but if he was president i wouldn't be talking smack about him all of the time, he'd be our president and i'd respect him as it..iono just my political two-cents

I'm with bulletcatcher and Old Crab. I support our president. Period. Whether I voted for him, like him or not. I respect the position. Nothing worse than a mutinous ship. If I really have issues, this country allows you to vote every four years. You can't ask for more than that.

I didn't vote for a president of the world, I voted for a President of the United States. The rest of the world likes a weak, meek USA like we had during the Carter years. Boy that was a safe time in the world....... Who believes that Quaddafi would have given up his Nuke program under different leadership? I notice Syria's not currently exhorting it's people to take up arms against the west. Even the Saudi's are starting to avoid supporting terrorists outright. The North Koreans are back at the table talking about their Nukes as are the Iranians. I think the citizens of the world who enjoy these polls should take up the issue of a leader who brainwashes a child into strapping explosives to his body and set them off in a public square. Or pays a family so that their son can drive a vehicle into a group of people and blow it up. You'll notice that those leaders never actually Martyr themselves (chickensh*ts) Arafat died in bed. Hussien hid in a rabbit hole same as Al Quada leadership does now. Point to a single leader in the world who has helped make the world a safer place from his post. I'm not talking about whiners (France) only doers. Hell I can't even remember most of their names.

How surprising coming from the bbc. Great points there lantec. I bet most of these "countries" that were polled, have more serious issues then worrying about the President of the U.S.

Most people around the world are misinformed. I have read the foreign papers and their bias is so extreme, it's almost sad.

It all comes down to History repeating itself, once again. Petty bickering, lambasting and Ungratitude towards the USA. The "haves" are once again, railing against the "have nots." Some accuse the people of USA of being self absorbed, and wrapped up and cock sure of themselves, and guess what we are just that. The one thing though is, given half a chance those same folks would knock our borders down to get here.

IMO...The problem with this country is that "United" does not apply. Every year it's the same old dribble..it's us (the dems) against them (the repubs) and god forbid anyone ever entertain the idea of fresh ideas with independent parties. Maybe one day we will truly be United, but presently we are more divided than anything.

I'm sorry...I love this country...but unless the people of this country wake up and stop this tunnel vision thinking of a 2 party system (division) and start working together (United) we will never be the great country we could be. I support the idea of a president, but our recent past presidents and present president have left much to be desired.

What this country really needs are far younger people in government that actually have a stake in the future of this country, instead of one foot in the grave and won't be here to see the outcome of their greedy policies that cater to the rich.

As long as people actually believe the crap these 2 parties dole out every year in the way of empty promises and lies, we will never realize true peace in the world or an end to poverty. Elections have become an embarrassment with all the petty bickering and finger pointing. Ever year we expect less and less of our presidents and elect them for all the wrong reasons.

And the best words of wisdom this presidency could come up with was...buy duct tape, plastic sheeting, and go shopping!?. And lets not forget that really efficient terror level warning system!? Really makes you feel safe all over huh! Give me a break! I have no doubt that scholars of the past are rolling in their graves and laughing their butts off over those words of witlessness!

We went to war with the intention to remove Saddam Hussien which was offical U.S. policy signed under President Clinton. Almost everybody believed Saddam had WMD. Even John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and other "mainstream" democrats agreed with the intelligence they saw. Most other countries came to the same conclusion.

And to your reference that Bush sold WMD to Iraq is just false. Iraq was given culture samples like any other country that requested them. The equipment used to turn those into weapons was sold to Iraq by the french, along with a great deal of other weapons.

Another false statement is that Saddam was not a threat. Saddam attempted to assasinate a U.S. President, fired on our planes on a daily basis while enforcing U.N. sanctions, attacked Israel, funding suicide bombers against Israel, and was indicted by the Clinton administration for cooperating with Al Qaeda. So please save the "he wasn't a threat" nonsense.

The problem most people have, and that especially goes for other countries is they only see the bad things on the news, and read website who hang on to crazy conspiracy theories. My cousin recently returned from Iraq and told me many interesting things. He had many stories of Iraqis coming up to him and others and thanking them for removing Saddam and trying to bring freedom to them. But you wouldn't know that because the news doesn't report things like that, and if they do they are labels as "propaganda" machines for Bush. The terrorists in Iraq are a small minority, it's sad they get such major headlines. When the elections in Iraq are over, that will make two nations formerly run by brutal regimes, that will have had free and democratic elections. If you think the world isn't better off, then you are sadly misinformed.

To pick up where Island Dog left off. Those Americans in Irag are part of our Volunteer Military. Doing what they believe in. As I sit in my easy chair I don't feel I have the right to second guess their decision. I'm sure when Webgizmos served his country he also believed in what he was doing. It's a good thing we have the freedom in this country to disagree about such things as who should be president and what the priorities of this president should be. I served in the military under Jimmy Carter. The rest of the world was laughing at us then. I voted for Ross Perot. He had good ideas for change that were needed at the time. Just because he didn't win does not mean he had no effect on the overall political situation. It proved to the people running the two major parties that they needed to account for the conservative moderates if they wanted to win elections.
Back to Iraq, the people our soldiers are in conflict with are not all Iraqis. It seems that as soon as we show up every son of a goat with a bad case of brainwash heads for Iraq to join up with the insurgents.
One more thing, how many terrorist attacks have there been on American soil since 911?

I spent Christmas and New Year's last year in the states. Never again! The constant paranoia stressed me out. The family I was staying with kept the TV and radio on constantly 'just in case'. Even on the bus crossing the border we were given regular updates on the terror alert level. Along with countless Americans, I was made to feel totally unsafe, and for no good reason.

This thread could turn into another war. I like comming here because of the community devoted to desktop customization. I like a lot of what I've read on this site from many different people. About what brought them here, about their personal lives, the tutorials, and on and on. I would like it to stay that way.

I found the last election proved that we are a divided nation. I found it to be draining, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It would be nice to keep Wincustomize from becoming a divided web site.

I have no right to ask anyone here to stop posting about politics. However, there are more productive sites dedicated to politics where you could discuss in length all your political views. One that I've frequented is called Political Crossfire. If you're interested here's a link to the site:

There is so many false statements there I don't know where to start.

How does someone "fake" duty in the National Guard? Bush fulfilled his obligations in the Guard and was awarded an honorable discharge. If you believe something else, then you should stop watching Dan Rather.

Bush has not damaged civil liberties or taken away anyones rights. That's a common accusation from the left is that Bush has "taken away your rights". Of course when you ask which "right" was taken away, they just can't seem to answer.

When did the Vice President tell Congress to "F off"? I can only imagine you are referring to when Cheney told a Senator to his face to "f off". That is different than telling the entire Congress.

You really shouldn't get your info from Farenlies 9/11. If Bush would have jumped up and scared the kids you would be complaining about that also. Nothing was going to change what happened on Sept. 11. Our military acted as best they could in an almost impossible situation. Stop listening to Michael Moore, and stop listening to the wacky conspiracy theories.

As far as his "financial plans not working".....wrong again. Bush has brought us out of a recession which started under the previous administration. Unemployment is at very low levels, and the economy is growing at record levels.

In case you missed it, there are documented links between al-qaeda and Saddam. Indictments have been issued linking Saddam and Osama. You probably don't hear much about it because it was done under a democratic administration.

I guess my problem is I haven't suffered any loss to my Civil Freedoms (but I guess you have) I own a business and have just fininshed three of my best years in the last nineteen. (but I imagine you have not) I guess he could be giving money to the arts where some people publicly display what I call child pornography... I haven't been jailed and tortured (but I'm sure you have) and I'm not having trouble breathing or finding clean water to drink. (but you keep holding out till the French rush in those water trucks) I'm glad I live in a Country where I'm not restricted to what I can do or not do because of what my father or granfather might have done. I don't believe everything I read in a newsrag or see on commercialized TV (but I see that some people do) After all if there was no bad news they'd all go out of business. I am just amazed at what goes through some peoples minds.

Did you know that Sept. 11 was planned up to five years before it happened? So how Bushs policies caused it is pretty much impossible since he was only President for 8 months. And for you to suggest Bush just let Sept. 11 happen is just crazy. Why do you people fall for these wacky conspiracy theories?

As far as the faith based charity. It's open to any faith based charity, not just Christian. Where you do get this information from?

He has not destroyed the Constitution in any way. Can you tell me what part of the Constitution is gone?

France was bribed by Saddam to oppose the war and try to get the sanctions against him lifted. When did he bribe the U.S. again?
