Still no November game

Still no November game

Hi folks

I joined TG in August and have had 3 games for August, September and October (Political Machine, Robin Hood, Frontline Command).

Before we hit January and start losing track of these things can we please have some official response about what has happened to the game for November?

Thanks

Good to meet you Brian. And good luck with your position.

Well, its a good start to have someone talking . As an aside, I'd be interested in hearing about how you all find/pick a game to get on totalgaming. edited because it sounded bad at first

Brian is the new Director of TotalGaming. So expect some big things, soon enough, Stardock has dedicated staff for TG now.

Keep in mind, in November, WWII Frontline was added, which is still a $40.00 game at retail outlets and Amazon. Considering the framework of what was released from August-Nov of last year, thats about $80 in games in the last half of 2004.

With that being said, I think everyone will be pleased with what is planned for this service in 2005.

I can't speak for past additions, but for the future games I'm handling, I play each of them thoroughly. If I think they're good, I pass my thoughts on to Brad, and we'll try to sign them.

With what have been released on the opening of Totalgaming.net, the TGN subscription is really a nice bargain for us

Brian, I was wondering what you were going to be doing for Stardock. TotalGaming sounds like a great fit for you. Best of luck.

Nice to see some signs of life from SD.

How come this place manages to maintain such a high degree of civility? SD advertise a game a month, don't deliver and people are still acting like they're doing them a favour showing up on a forum. It's creepy. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the Stepford forum...

Amen Frightlever.

While it is nice to see that SD went to the trouble to hire someone to oversee TGN I'll reserve my praise for when something happens as promises of action have been made in the past....

I don't think anyone here was questioning the quality of the games released so far on TGN (ie. the $80 and bargain comments a few posts above), the whole issue has always been the promise of a game a month for the end of 2004 which did not happen. Now clearly I am not saying that I would rather have had junk games released just to satisfy that promise but I think most of us would have appreciated at least an acknowledgement that this promise was not going to be fulfilled or heck, even an apology.

With that said, congratulations Brian Clair, I hope you are up to the task.

Good luck with the whole situation, Yarlen. And if I may make a suggestion: credit those of us affected by this with an additional couple of months worth of TotalGaming service. My subscription expires in ten days, and at this point I've gotten two games less than what was promised when TotalGaming launched (though I did subscribe BEFORE TotalGaming launched; I was a Drengin subscriber). I don't see any other way to resolve the situation, unless you choose to release two new games within the next ten days.

Seems fair.

Imagine you took out a subscription to National Geographic in August and they forgot to send you the October and December issues...

This is off of the Totalgaming membership information:

"Starting in August, Stardock will be adding a new game each month for the rest of the year. "

Seems to me we are missing 4 games, so i'd like a credit or should I call my credit card company because the fullfillment requirements weren't met?
Nope, JTurnas, we're missing two games. As per a post above, August was Political Machine, September was Robin Hood and and November was Frontline Command. We're missing October and December.

and January, still no game for January, and 1 more day till its over. Sad.

The year ended December 31st.

Has anyone on here who's expressed an interest actually received a reply from StarDock regarding the violation of the contracts we signed, electronically? We were kinda bored on Tuesday and got jamming to a friend from university who is talking "class action suit". We thought that meant we needed dozens of people to get involved, whereas Totalgaming must only involve the 4 or 5 of us on here. We're sure we'd have heard more by now if it was a larger group. We don't think this should be frivilous, because that crap just pisses us off. Personally we think we've been taken for a ride by total-gaming. If you honestly feel the same let us know on here. If we don't see much response on here we'll start a new topic, just to make our point and let people know how we feel and that we would like to get in touch with them. We've contacts in most of the gaming sites who'll help us gather responses from TG subscribers and others.

Not interested. For several reasons.

1. I think that I have received a good value from TG as it stands now. Yes I would like to see the 2 games released that were promised, but I believe that it will happen eventually.

2. The customer service here has been excellent over all and the quality of games has been great. I would rather wait for the games and get good games then have them throw us something that sucks just to "meet the numbers".

3. Have you actually read the contract? Nowhere does it mention that a certain number games will be released over a certain time frame. You might be able to get Stardock on false advertising, but not on breach of contract.

4. Unless you make some attempt to resolve this issue through other avenues (not the message boards) your class action lawsuit will not stand up in court.

5. You are posting your intentions on Stardock’s message boards. This indicates that this is a temper tantrum to get attention and not a serious attempt to get something together. How long do you think this post would remain up if Stardock thought you were serious?

Obviously it's an attempt to get noticed - I'm pissed off with the lack of feedback.

Nice deconstruction of my post, by the way, and the only point I'd disagree with is that it was a temper tantrum. You, on the other hand, are clearly a Stardock fanboi, conveniently ignoring the poor service many buyers of the Political Machine received. How can you say the customer service has been great? It's been non-existent. You honestly think any real people are walking away from this experience with good stories to tell about Totalgaming?

In any event if you're happy being treated like a mug punter then that's your problem, this thread began with a question - why is there no November game. Don't hijack the thread with your misplaced houndlike loyalty, go start your own thread someplace else.

Then just post asking for feedback. Don't start talking class action lawsuits. The point is they have provided feedback, not as much as I would like and not as much as I think they should have, but they have provided it.

You, on the other hand, are clearly a Stardock fanboi

You are welcome to your opinion of my motivations. However if you go back through this thread and others you should notice that I have been saying many of the same things that you have regarding this situation. You have every right to be upset about the situation. I completely agree that Stardock needs to meet their commitment to their customers. I am trying to keep things in perspective however and maintain some degree of optimism. Obviously someone at Stardock sees that there is a problem as well since they have hired someone specifically to address the problem. This is progress. Yarlen, as of a week and a half ago, has said that he is working on it and asked for our patience. I don't know that much about the process of getting the games ready to go, but it seems to me that since Stardock has obliquely admitted there is a problem by hiring someone to address it and stated that they are working on it we ought to give them a bit more time to work on it.

How can you say the customer service has been great?

The customer service has been great. There I just said it.... sorry that was a joke.

But seriously, overall the attention to the customer Stardock has shown has been great. I don't know specifically about the Political Machine as I was not interested in that game, but the few posts I have seen regarding problems have been answered within 24 hours. Yes I will agree (again) that Stardock has been deficient in keeping us informed regarding the Nov and Dec games. But a lapse in customer service on one issue does not immediately eliminate the good customer service I have seen elsewhere.

the only point I'd disagree with is that it was a temper tantrum

I am going to have to stick by this statement. Asking for information or even angrily ranting about the customer service/lack of delivery is one thing. Posting a "threat" of a lawsuit on a company's message boards is uncalled for and rude under any circumstances.

It seems to this "Stardock fanboi" and his "misplaced houndlike loyalty" that the only hijacking of this thread was when you started to talk about a class action lawsuit. After all the thread is titled "Still no November game" not "lets sue Stardock".

Personally im happy with tg.net, i have been with the game side of stardock since it started with drengin.net.
I agree it is anoying that we are not getting any info, but im sure its mainly all down to red tape due to stratergyfirst going bust.
They may be late sometimes with promises, but you always get what they promissed in the end.

Well, my subscription expired. I've gotten two less games than I was supposed to get, and I've gotten zero feedback from Stardock employees since my previous post on this topic. I'm definitely not resubscribing unless I'm properly compensated for this.

Sorry to be out of touch for so long everybody. I was caught up in some personal business for the past few weeks. For those who haven't gotten the latest email blast yet (or who aren't subscribed to it), I thought I'd let you know that two games are currently in the pipeline: Nexagon and Hacker Elite. Once we've tested to make sure these games are working properly, they'll show up via Stardock Central for your downloading pleasure.

Nexagon and Hacker Elite will be the final games released for TotalGaming.net Phase 1; all future titles will be released under Phase 2 which operates under a different model. If you're currently a TG subscriber, you'll automatically be migrated to the new system (you'll continue to have access to all the titles that were already released).

If anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know - or better yet, start up a new thread so we can keep the discussions separate.

Whoa, wait a second here. When you purchased Drengin.net, there was no talk about games per month or anything like that.

I looked up your order.  You upgraded to Drengin.net from Galactic Civilizations for $30. You didn't buy Galactic Civilizations from Stardock (Stardock didn't get paid royalties for most retail purchases of Galactic Civilizations).  We didn't have to provide an upgrade path to Drengin.net for Galactic Civilizations users, particularly ones who hadn't purchased it from us.  But we did because we wanted to treat all GalCiv players equally.  I only bring this up because it means that you've spent $30 with us.

And for your $30 you got a ton of games.  We didn't mislead you. You didn't buy Drengin.net way back when based on our intention to release a game per month at the end of 2004 (a  year after you purchased).

The only people, IMO, who would be justified complaining about missing the 2 games would be people who purchased TotalGaming.net this past summer. And they will get those games long before their subscriptions expire.

For your $30 you received:

  • Galactic Civilizations updates
  • Galactic Civilizations: Altarian Prophecy ($19.95)
  • World War II: Frontline command
  • The Political Machine ($19.95)
  • Robin Hood
  • The Corporate Machine
  • BaseGolf
  • Discipleis II: Ultimate Edition
  • ORB
  • Celtic Kings
  • Stellar Frontier
  • LightWeight Ninja

That's TWELVE games. And some of them were brand new as they came out.  For your $30 you got all those games including Altarian Prophecy.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to just accept the argument that you somehow didn't treated well here.  You got a ton of games.  Yes, we would have liked to have put on two more games onto TotalGaming.net before the end of last year. But delays are the norm in the game industry. All we can do is try our best.  If we had said you would get those games before you bought your Drengin.net subscription, I'd be totally agreeing with you.  But that's not what happened. In reality, Drengin.net users made out really well. And you in particular did very very well.  For $30 you got a lot of games.

Now we're heading towards Phase 2 of TotalGaming.net which we hope will allow us to get even more games on there: The phase 2 preview can be found here: http://totalgaming.stardock.com/forums.asp?MID=141&AID=65990
