That grey almost always means the game has not completed its online sign-in, and it is not something a reinstall can touch. The Multiplayer button is gated on sign-in state rather than on installed files, so uninstalling and reinstalling leaves it exactly where it was.

There is no separate account login to go hunting for. The game signs itself in when it starts, using your Steam session, or your Epic one depending on where you bought it.

Hover the Multiplayer button before you try anything else. The tooltip tells you the current sign-in state, and when it has failed it shows the actual error text underneath it. That message is the part worth having.

Two things cause this most often. Steam sitting in offline mode, since the sign-in needs a live session to hand over. And launching the game executable directly instead of through Steam, which leaves it with nothing to sign in with.

One other thing worth ruling out first: the button is also grey while the sign-in is still in progress. If you had only just launched, sit on the main menu for a few seconds and see whether it comes back on its own.
