What should I do with Tinker character?

Hello everyone, Is anyone using the Tinker character? the Tinker's skill tree is very nice. However, the skills that provide extra spells to be cast on items do not work. I started with 8 spells (+2 attack, +2 lighting attack, +2 defense, etc.)  and I still only had 8 spells after choosing the skill providing extra spells (one the upper skills toward the right). What should I do to make the Tinker stronger?
