What's the current state of multiplayer?

I'm thinking of buying this game and wondering how multiplayer is with the current version, particularly coop.

Most people by large play for single player. If you want to play it with other players I suggest getting friends to play together. There isn't really a "pub scene".

Thanks for the reply.  I'm actually in a multiplayer game of Stellaris at the moment with someone and we're in the late game and it has become an unwieldy mess.  I was hoping to find something more streamlined for us but no less deep and GC3 caught my attention.  I played GC1 & 2 SP (don't have GC3) but I'm a bit skeptical of turn-based games as MP but I saw someone playing it on a video and it seemed to work fine.  I just wanted to get some views about people's experience with playing it.

Used to be great multiplayer, but latest updates stopped the game from working as multiplayer. Won’t even work with 2 pcs on the same network and Sadly Devs ignore requests for a fix.
