Can't activate Trinity from retail code

I purchased Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity through stardock.com in 2012. Having re-downloaded and installed it, I am unable to activate it. I have a valid product key, and am able to register the product fine through https://www.stardock.com/accounts/register, but whenever I go to activate the game to actually play it, it does not work. It failed to activate the first time with an error, and then went through several steps that all failed. Now, when I try to activate it, it says I have reached the maximum number of activations. Again, it is registered, I have the product key, etc.

Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This might be through the old Impulse launcher. I will see if I can find out more and get back to you.
