Projects or Expeditions for the Shipyard? Where do I find them on the Tech Tree?

I was trying to find things for my shipyard to do in a new game I had started and realized I hadn't seen any Missions show up as yet. I tried looking through the Tech Tree to figure out what to research to get them to show up but didn't find them, or maybe I don't know what to look for. In previous games by the time I thought about needing to do something with the shipyard other than build ships there were already missions there. Is there a list somewhere that correlates missions with tech tree advances? Thanks!

Projects and Expeditions are enabled in various Governments as they become available.

What erischild said, plus you do have to research various techs to unlock different missions. These are spread throughout the tech tree--the blue symbol on the tech tree is used for these (look at Colonial Settlements, for example, third blue icon out of five: "Research Mission"). Hope that helps.

To add to what has already been said, there are some government types that do not allow shipyard missions. Avoid those.

Thanks for the replies, they have been a help. So I know now how to look through the tree for missions, although I wish it was searchable. Also I'll read the fine print of what a new Government type does or does not allow!
