MS's Spring Creator's Update is Apparently Very Buggy

And lacking really good features

I don't know this from personal experience, but Martin Brinkmann tends to know what he's talking about, and he did the update...

You should read the article linked and, if possible, defer this update. He describes a method for W10 Home, as well, using the metered charge option.

Check the Windows Event Log, Dave.

Well I think I found it.  Disabled it, won't cause a problem (until I decide to use the utility again without remembering to enable it - that'll remind me.)  Don't want to name it here since I could easily be wrong, other than to say it's nothing to do with Stardock or WinStep.  Since it only caused a problem after updates, it'll be a few months before I feel like I've got it.

Thanks again Jorge.

The latest installment via yahoo news. The so called 'patch' for the 2018 creators update has caused infinite boot loops after installing.

I had some odd issues with the update. Most notably a slow login and issues with the Windows Store. I ended up resetting and it is now working fine on this update.

The task view button doesn't work at all here.

Quoting starkers,

though sometimes I don't bother and simply hide those I don't want.

Color me stupid. I was unaware that you could hide updates with 10.

In Win 10 Pro you can hide problematic updates in the update options/settings.  However, there are various programs available at majorgeeks.com that allow users to disable automatic updates and hide updates in both Win 10 Home and Pro.

Ok, I finally found a problem that caused me to have to reinstall Windowblinds on all my machines.

After the 1803 update, windowblinds would not skin the taskbar button preview popup that shows when you mouseover the button that has an open window.

All is well after reinstalling WB.

Make that WindowBlinds and Start10.

I just booted into Win 10 and there were a bunch of updates for 1709 but I didn't get an update for 1803. I wonder if they stopped the update because people were having problems with it. I hit the update button twice I guess I'll try again later.

Be nice if they would be kinda sorta transparent in what the hell is going on.  But hey, Microsoft...

Quoting DrJBHL,
While there's a good deal to that, I didn't know you and Satya Nardella were an item. ;)

Ahahahaha.

Bastard. *_* :)

Some are that from birth. Me? A self made man. ;)

As I was saying...more on 1803. How can they put out an update like that?

I'm still 1709, and they may have taken that pos off their servers. My advice ALMonty...don't push your luck.

All my 3 devices (1 desktop, a laptop and a tablet) auto-updated Windows 1803 updates, and everything is fine. After reading this kind of post on forums, i feel lucky!

I really hope i won't ever get to clean re-install on the tablet, drivers on chinese stuff are always hard to find !  /Crossfingers :)

They didn't pull the update because one of my machines is getting it right now. Wish me luck....

Just like Microsoft...;)

Had to go to Microsoft website and install the update from there. After it was done I got a boot loop at logon, did a restart got a black screen, signed out and now everything works...I hope.;P

Luck.

I'd sure like to know why Win 10 works for some and not for others. I've had next to zero problems with it and my laptop is pushing four years old. Thissa weird. o_O

Thanks for wishing me luck. I got the bad kind this time.

After a couple of days with the new update everything is running good. Had a little problem with Windows Media Player not starting, but all is well.

Here's a good one for you... after installing the 1803 update, the new Start 10 release has an issue. If in the Configure area of Start 10 you select "Games" to show in the places panel, it puts the word "Desktop" there instead, and if you click "Desktop", it errors out. It has done this a 3 different PC's here. :(

Oh, and the install also creates a folder in C:/Users/"User Name" named "Start10Ctrlpnl" with various useless files, 721 of them, in the folder. I know they are useless because if you delete the folder, Start 10 still functions just fine. A lot of the files all begin with "AAASystemSettings_Accessibility_" or "Classic-" and they are all of a type called "Setting Content" in Windows 10.

Hello, Tom

Actually it's doing the same for me with games/shows desktop/then nothing.

I'll forwarded your report to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations.

Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates.

We really do appreciate your feedback, thanks.

LOL.  I already had my delay set for 120 days and just got the Fall Creators Update this weekend.

Didn't seem to screw anything up.  So far.  Bit of an "Oh, shit" moment but then I remembered.
