CPU for GalCiv3
Ryzen vs Intel
I have a Intel 2500K at the moment
Would I see much improvement in turn time for Galciv3 with a Ryzen 1600X or equivalent?
How does Ryzen vs Intel in same price range match against each other?

Two things i only think. Ive not had a chance to test this. Intel wins on the high end if you have a graphics card. Amd wins on the low end, because they lower their price of older processors. If you are using integrated graphics intel have not improved since 4000, while amd canabolises ati 100 to 200 dollar graphics cards. Plus the makers of play station processors who use integrated graphics should know integrated graphics. Remember i have not tested this.
Simply put ryzen is a better deal, while the intel is priced 4 times higher is a better processor. It is priced more like a i5 which it beats.
I think GalCiv3 will benefit from this upgrade.
Current i5-7600K got much higher frequency, and slightly better performance per core when compared with equal frequency, but still cannot compete in multi-threaded tasks.
Also there are new CoffeLake generation, i5-8600K, i5-8400. These i5 CPUs got two more cores (than i5-7600K) but still miss SMT. So only 6 threads, but may be for many people it will be enough.
On the other hand, there are i7-6800K and i7-7800X, they are comparable with 1600X in most of the tasks and games, but have a much higher price (because of PCI-E lanes, RAM channels, etc.) and requiring expensive motherboards.
The 1600X is better (obviously). However, the biggest bottleneck in GC3 appears to be the amount of RAM. I'm still on 4GB (64-bit) and it's paging all over the place. I can't even start a game with the bigger galaxies. I'd estimate 8GB minimum for good performance.
If you are playing any sizable galaxies, look to 16 gig min RAM and 32 is better. Consider SSD to avoid any paging delays. I am not interested in "good" performance; I am into really swift response. If you are looking at CPU responses so hard, do not skimp on RAM.
Honestly, I play this on an older Xeon workstation. E3-1240 3Ghz Sandy bridge. (that's 5 years out of date).
It has 24GB of Ram, and the "insane" size galaxy causes about 12GB of that to be used.
For this game, you're better off with a older graphics card (Nvidia 650/660 or 750), what *was* a nice CPU in 2014, and a minimum of 16GB of RAM. A SSD is nice, too.
Good news, is that combo sells for under $500, total, via eBay or your local used reseller.
