Game brings computer to the ground...?

I was wondering is it me (my computer) or is it the game.

 Game: Excessive Map

Computer: i7-4790 (16GB Ram), GTX-960, Windows7

I have what most ppl would consider a decent top end system. PassMark performance test is great, but when playing this game it brings my computer to the ground, where literally it stops mouse movement or anything else.

Literally it takes 2-3 mins to do things, merger (demerge) fleets, build ship.

So just wondering how to improve performance or if it's just the game.

Ok in watching memory, GC3 is eating all my 16gb and have massive hard faults. I have a spare 16GB sitting in another computer I will try and swap in later today to see if that fixes it.

What system memory sets are others using for the larger maps? Does anyone use a SSD for windows swapping?

I would create a support ticket w/ the support tool, including the saved game where you are having this issue.  I run 16 GB on the largest maps w/ all 100+ factions and haven't capped out my memory ever...  Even early on when it used 30% more memory...  The highest I've seen it on my machine including Windows background memory is 12-14GB.  Make sure you don't have anything running in the background using memory as well.

Game runs decent on my AMD FX 9370/R9 270x GPU/500 GB SSD/16GB Memory.

Have you rebuilt your game files? I would start there and re run the game. I have a similar system but my processor is Intel and I have played for over 1500 hours and no issues so far. If you are having a hard fault and crashing I would go and down load 'mem-test' and run that for a pass or two. You may have a mem fault in your actual chips which Gal Civ will find over time.

Thanks for feedback.

Over lunch break (work from home) I was able to swap in the extra memory.

Works like a charm, with just GC3 and resource monitor running I stand at 16.8GB ram usage (though I only played a round or two.)

But seems to have solved the issue (will have to try the next map size up :) )

Note: the hard fault is just memory swaps, not crashes, in resource monitor it calls page swaps "Hard Faults".

PS: whats the support URL or is it just posting in these forums?

Your Page file should be 2.5x bigger than your total ram. Preferably on an SSD.

The link to the GC3 trouble shooting tips is in this thread. Also found there are the instructions on how to open a support ticket.

I have a much weaker system and GC 3 runs in general quite fluid in recent versions, using mostly gigantic maps myself. Turn times late game can be annoying indeed, but mostly because I have to watch AI moves and battles (so not per se due to long processing or resource issues).
