Bug: Strategic combat animations take too long (>60 seconds)

Hi,

Sometimes when I attack, the animation takes >60 seconds.  When this happens, I am not able to do anything with the attacking fleet or initiate another attack with a different fleet until the problem resolves.

Notes:

  • I play zoomed out just enough that everything is an icon
  • Sometimes, I can see a projectile fly past the target and off to the distance
  • Moving the view away to a different part of the galaxy does not seem to reduce the delay
  • Switching to the Research screen does not seem to reduce the delay
  • Currently, I'm playing as Snathi, so the scavanging dialog appears after the delay.  I also saw this during the United Earth campaign, so I don't think it's specific to scavangers.
  • I'm using large fleets of 6 carriers (each with 4 interceptors)

Do your engineers accept heap dumps?  I find those to be pretty useful for bugs that aren't quite deterministic.

Thanks!

I'm seeing the same thing, or at least something similar, on a game started with the latest patch.  It's happened 3 times so far, each time when attacking a mining base on asteroids with a fleet with mixed weapons, at least one of each type.  The quick battle animation starts playing, and I see (1) what appear to be beams flashing from my fleet to the base, (2) what appear to be missiles flying from my fleet to the base, and then (3) nothing happens for a long long time until finally I see what appear to be a kinetic attack flying from somewhere from the bottom left of the screen (perhaps coordinates (0,0)?) to the mining base, finally destroying it.

Most of the time, the kinetic attack (3) appears normally, originating at my fleet and hitting the asteroid base, but like I said, so far in this game it's happened 3 times that they appear to come out of deep space instead of from my fleet.

I'm playing as the Terrans in the Arcean campaign, so if this is the same problem that @corgatag reported it has nothing to do with the Snathi.

Update: I tried zooming in far enough to see the ship models, but the issue still repros intermittently (1 in 3 attacks).  Could definitely see the rogue projectiles shooting off into the distance each time too.

I saw this again, in another campaign map, on 1.81.  The map was medium this time, so the wait was much much longer.  Otherwise, identical to what I described in my post above.

I just saw it again, only this time sort of in reverse.  As I have described above, all other time's I've seen it my fleet has been attacking an asteroid base, and the delay is caused by a kinetic attack coming from the lower left of the galaxy all the way across the galaxy to hit the asteroid base.  This time, my fleet was attacking a defended planet, and after the winning animation beams came out of the planet and flashed through the galaxy to the lower left, then kinetic attack did the same (I might have missed missiles, or maybe the Drengin didn't have any).  Anyway, the game was effectively locked up for me until the kinetic attack finally made it off the screen to the lower left.  After that I was able to move my ships and proceed with the game.
