Urquan = What Earth Creature?

This changes everything...

When you think of the dreaded Urquan - what comes to mind? Some sort of giant squid? Or maybe some type of beetle with claws? A reptile, maybe?

I just came across my old, original Star Control II book from '92. And as I was reliving memories and leafing through the pages... I came across the description of the Urquan:

"Physically, Ur-Quan resemble the predatory CATERPILLAR native to Earth's Hawaiian Islands, only grown to over 10 meters in length"?!?!

WHAT?! Did anyone here picture the Ur-Quan as 30' long caterpillars???

There's what an Ur-Quan looks like, folks. And be honest: is that at All what everyone imagined (if you never read the description in the book)??? A long snake body? A 30' caterpillar?

That's insane.

You can check DeviantArt artists for their interpretation on how the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za look like:

So weird!!!! The existence of a long, caterpillar-like body is not apparent in their conversation screen AT ALL!! It's mind-blowing! It throws my whole life off :P

Space octopus would be really cool.

I imagined it to be a centipede to be honest, plus, the constant sound of a hundred feet beating against the floor would sound kinda menacing.

Artwork in the manuals leave nothing to the imagination. The Ur-quan are caterpillars.

Something more along the lines of...

"Physically, the Ur-Quan resembles a huge predatory caterpillar."
