The new Admiral DLC...!!!

Featuring the new 'Admiral' which you can place in a fleet. This Admiral gains exp and lvls up for each battle he survives on. He various levels would give various bonuses fleet wide much like support ships do now, Greater movement, attk and/or defense. Admirals would be named and the corresponding fleet would then be named 'with them' ...eg, Admiral Buckeye would command, the Blazing Buckeyees (named fleet). Admirals would also come with or be able to have logos which would appear on the strategic map making them stand out.

Admirals can be moved from fleet to fleet making them valuable. You can only have 1 admiral for every 10 points of logistics your empire can field, thus making them precious and few.

Just a few thoughts on this...

I am kinda sure this may be the direction Stardock is going to take but it is possible that we get ships that lvl up instead (much like GCII).

I feel a 'Portrait-able' Character representing your Fleet Admiral would really go a long way to personifying your empire.

i'd be ok either way but prefer the Fleet Admiral level up as a new & different twist.  I believe Paul said he was going the Fleet Admiral route

^^^ Really? I was just tossing out an idea and did not get a chance to watch the stream. Well they do have them in Distant Worlds so the idea is there. Glad to hear the news.

I think with how quickly fleets obsolete in early game having admirals would be a better fit for the game. An admirals update could fix the problem with the fleet boosting mercenaries (they could be removed or changed into an admiral equivalent that isn't restricted by the slow or weak or inappropriately categorised - eg 'escort' when flying at the front getting destroyed is def not the best fit mercenaries). Seems like something that could add something to improve the game but also contain features to improve a previous DLC for a double win.

I agree, a 'movable' Admiral which you can relocate on any fleet or ship would have much better use in game. Also it would be worth noting that if you do move him to a ship/fleet, his assigned ship should be considered a 'flagship' and assigned a position at the back or mid ground of the fleet line up at fight time.

Over on the Steam forums Brad suggested ship XP would be part of 1.8.
